KennyRock
So, I decided I'd start up a fun little game to waste time here on the boards. Since this deals with MLB players and their stats, I have it in Sports in General, but let me know if it should be in the Lounge. Here's how the game works: I'll post the stats of an MLB player(retired or active). Through things like landmarks(3,000 hits, 300 wins, etc.) or big seasons(50 HR in 1998), you'll have to figure out who the player is. The teams played for will not be displayed, but up to three hints will be given out for each player. Only the first person to correctly identify the player will receive the point. I'll keep track of the leaderboard, and post new stats as often as I can(at least 7 per week). No, there are no prizes, except the satisfaction of knowing you're a baseball stat god and the Elias Sports Bureau should be calling you soon. Please don't look up the stats on MLB.com or anywhere else - the goal is to figure it out using just your noggin. Away we go!#1 - We'll start it off simple: New York Jets |3-3| First, AFC EastNew York Mets |74-88| Fourth, NL EastNew York Islanders|34-37-11| Fifth, Atlantic DivisionNew Orleans Hornets |21-45| Third, Southwest Division
HedleyLamarr
Batted .394 in the strike-shortened season of 1994...that would be Tony Gwynn. The "games played" kinda throws you off some.....
KennyRock
Gwynn it is!Hedley Lamaar - 1I agree about the games played thing, but I want to leave it there cause in some cases, it could be an injury-shortned season that makes you remember a player. Here's a two-shot for the overnight - please say if it #2 or #3 you are guessing:Don't worry - older names are coming soon. New York Jets |3-3| First, AFC EastNew York Mets |74-88| Fourth, NL EastNew York Islanders|34-37-11| Fifth, Atlantic DivisionNew Orleans Hornets |21-45| Third, Southwest Division
HedleyLamarr
#2 looks like David Justice's stats. He blossomed early in his Braves career, like Jeff Francoeur did this year. But his GP in 1996 scares me, since I don't remember him missing 120 games while playing for the Braves.
KennyRock
You got it!Hedley Llamar - 2Still waiting on 3 - I'll post new ones tomorrow, so we get more players in. HedleyLamarr
You got it!Hedley Llamar - 2 What'd he do to miss so much time in '96? It wasn't like he took the summer off to participate in the Atlanta Olympics.....
Cujo
I'll say #3 is Billy Koch

KennyRock
*applauds* Rice should have been easy, but I didn't think anyone would get Owen that fast. Let's do it again - Hedley Llamar - 2Unwind23 - 2DirtyCurty - 1If I know this board, #6 should be a gimme. Braden
Is #7 Greg Vaughn? I seem to remember he had that breakthough season in 1998 when SD was in the WS.
WJMorris3
Well, #6 is Robin Yount. All you need is (ball in) glove!#7 looks to be Greg Vaughn - 50 homers in 1998 kinda gives it away.
KennyRock
Thought I'd resurrect this Baseball-Stat guessing game. As always teams have been removed, and the idea is to guess which player had the stats posted up. #6 was, of course, Robin Yount and Yep, #7 was Greg Vaughn.Hedley Llamar - 2Unwind23 - 2DirtyCurty - 1willmorris - 1Braden - 1Happy guessing!
