For instance, USC beat Arizona State when they were a ranked team, yet they're computer ranking suffers because of what happens weeks after the matchup. There is no factor in the computer rankings for injuries, or for a team going into a tailspin AFTER a tough loss. The rankings should only take into account the schedule strength at the tim of a matchup. The main flaw with the BCS is the fact they use polls in the first place. You can say that team X beat team Y when team Y was ranked, but if team Y ends up 4-7 or 5-6, then team X shouldn't get more credit. Team Y just wasn't worthy of their ranking in the first place. Teams are grossly overrated or underrated at the beginning of the season and the pollsters spend the rest of the season trying to justify their initial votes, not necessarily putting the teams where they belong. Sure Arizona State was ranked when USC beat them, but they have since proven they didn't deserve the ranking. Maybe we'll see the same thing with Texas Tech.Teams pad their rankings by playing non-conference patsies at home and get inflated rankings. These "tailspins" you talk about are not tailspins at all, it's teams finally playing big boy football and being exposed for the frauds they are. If you happen to play in a conference (especially in the ACC or SEC) where your other members have just atrocious non-conference schedules, and when you play those highly ranked teams from your conference that end up being bottom feeders at the end of the season, you deserve no extra credit. If Tech can jump and USC gets no shot to go for 3 in a row, we will have a playoff....I will be a Hookie fan and Texas fan this season if it gives us a playoff. "Try not to have a good time ...
