pittfan11
This may seem kind of weird, but I like the shiny football helmets that some teams wear, like the vikings of seahawks. I think they look cooler than the steelers helmets, which just look like they're made out of plastic. I was just wondering what everyone else thought. pittfan11
I mean the steelers helmets aren't shiny at all. They're so dull looking. The giants have shiny helmets, too.

Yes, and that's cool and all, but those helmets are made from plastic as well, just like the steelers... i always liked that kinda battle-worn dull matte look as well... I almost wish the giants would get helmets like that... but they look too damned good. The Steelers helmet fits them. FiddySicks
The shiny helmets are helmets that are painted, the More dull helmets are not painted. Its that simple. Its really hard to get some of those metallic colors into the plastic on the helmets so they just paint a shell that is either really close to the color, or a white shell. You see a lot of teams that have switched to this style lately like the Vikes and Giants, and you see a lot of teams who should switch to this, like the Cheifs and Browns On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Lightningfan
When the teams develope their helmet colors they decide if they want that sparkle shiney look or not. If they want it they mix silver sparkle chips into the plastic which then make then sparkel. Ohio State and NY Giants are the best examples. The more chips the more sparkle.Notre Dame paints their helmets every week to give them the sparkle. Also cheap helmets are made of ABS plastic and are dull unless the chips are added. Many High Schools use ABS plastic and all collector helmets are ABS unless they state they are authentic or authentic replicas. If authentic or authentic replicas they are made of polycarbonite plastic which NFL teams wear and some others who want to spend the extra money. For a good reference look at a Chicago bears helmet, they do not add sparkle chips so you can see the difference in ABS vs Polycarbonite. Compare the Official helmet with a Replica and you can see how dull the replica is over the authentic. You will even see this difference in the mini helmets. the Bears polycarbonite authentic is much brighter/shinny then the ABS replica. The shiny pants and dull helmet didn't work well together, so they upgraded the helmet.
