logodawg
I was watching the USA play Japan today on ESPN and noticed an ad behind home plate for worldbaseballclassic.com that looked like CGI. Now, I know this isn't uncommon these, but what is unusual about this one is that it was on an actual billboard in the stadium rather than being place somewhere on the playing field. At first I thought that it was the WBC double dipping on ad space by having ads physically on the space to be seen in the stadium and than CGI for the TV. But in a replay from a different angle showed that it just but a green square so it was just for CGI. Did anybody else catch this and has anybody esle heard of this being done before? I once had a car but I crashed it. I once had a guitar but I smashed it. I once, wait where am I going with this?
CC97
What?If you're asking about those green ads being placed in stadiums, they've been around for a while. --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram
buckeyes1
Why don't they just have an actual ad? It can be seen both on televison and at the ballpark.
PadreHomer
Why don't they just have an actual ad? It can be seen both on televison and at the ballpark. So whoever is broadcasting the game can show their own advertizing. Hardly anyone actually in the ballpark can see the ads behind the plate anyway. They did this at the Superbowl too, the Canadian feed showed alot of Canadian ads on boards around the stadium during breaks and whatnot, and you could tell they were on giant green screens. FiddySicks
Yeah theyve been doing this for awhile. Because the backstops are green they can take that space and easily put some sort of an advertisement in that space. Thats why the ads arent always the same. And really, thats brilliant marketing. You can put multiple companies advertizing in the same highly seen spot, usually equalling double, triple, or even more in the revinue than you normally would with a single fixed sign. And, if you look closely sometimes you can see parts of the ad start to overlap the edges of the player. Its a lot like the yellow first down line in football. Its not accually there, but its added in by the station. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) bdugan14
They've been doing this for at least 7 or 8 years. I remember them having it for Giants games at Candlestick. You could always tell because dirt and garbage from the warning track would kick up, blow in front of it, and mess it up.
harperdc
its become much more sophisticated in the past few years, allowing them to zoom in and slightly change the angle and have the logo still look 'right,' but yeah, it's nothing new and is mostly used for national broadcasts.for Mariner coverage on Fox Sports Northwest we still get 'just' the actual ballpark ads (nothing green screened), but that's alright because it means we get the Japanese Nintendo ads
illinirox1
The Wrigley field home plate ad is permanently greenscreen. On WGN you don't see any ads, but on ESPN you see them every pitch. Put Your Hands up For Detroit (our lovely city)

The whole reason they're at Wrigley is because of pressure from FOX I believe (and to a lesser extent, ESPN) I've decided to give up hope for all sports teams I follow
