Wow, what is up with that school? Some serious weirdness.

You don't know the half of it. Befriend an Aggie, get him drunk and you will learn all kinds of crazy stuff. And if he is a Corps guy (the Corps is full of uber Aggies), watch out.

It's not weirdness. It's tradition and pride in your school.

There's a point where tradition and pride in your school stops and strange, cultish behavior begins.

The 12th Man, the "yells," and all that jazz? Great traditions. Corps members attacking people that walk on the grass on the A&M campus, the "hump it" position, and the deranged worship of Reveille & her dead predecessors? Cultish.

Like edensker said, befriend an Aggie and you'll learn some crazy, crazy stuff.

Reveille is considered the highest ranking member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, and she holds the cadet rank of General, with 5 diamonds as her rank insignia. If Reveille falls asleep on a cadets bed, then he must sleep on the floor, likewise, if Reveille barks during class the professor traditionally will dismiss class immediately.

. . . .

Along with her rank as a Cadet General, Reveilles receive full military funerals as an honor to the "First Lady of Texas A&M".

And that's not even the tip of the iceberg. You could probably write a series of books revolving around the weirdness of Aggieland.

I'm glad the Auburn guy gets it. As far as getting attacked for walking on grass, that is only partially true. There is only one section of grass that you cannot walk on because it is part of the memorial student center (which is basically what most schools consider a Union). The MSC is a living memorial to all Aggies who have died serving the United States in war. With it being a memorial, it is requested that everyone who entersthe building remove their hat and that no one walk on the grass surrounding that building. there are signs all around the building that ask people to please not walk on the grass. So basically if you do walk on it, it is becasue u blantany want to piss of a bunch of people. No one accidently walks on it. Just to avoid any stupid questions about how do u cut the grass, of course the groundskeepers are alowed on the grass to cut it. Alot of what A&M and the corps do can be viewed as cultish, but so could what much of the military does, but no one makes fun or mocks them becasue it is in service and protection of the country. With A&M being a former military only school, that is why it posses many "strict, cult-like" rules. For those that dont wanna try to get it or what the school is about, you never will.

People don't make fun of the military academies because they are the military. On the opposite end of the spectrum, people make fun of A&M because they're not a true military school (yet they love to perpetuate the belief that they are). While the corps of cadets may have an excuse for their actions, the rest of Aggieland does not, yet that doesn't stop them from behaving like a cult.

Oklahoma State, formerly Oklahoma A&M, shares a strong military history with Texas A&M (IIRC, OSU has created more generals than TAMU or any other non-military school), but I have yet to see a human wall guarding Bullet the horse like that of which the Aggies put around Reveille. Heck, I don't think you even see that with Navy's goat or the Army mule in the real service academies. So for all the talk about how non-Aggies don't "get it," perhaps it's the Aggies who really don't get it.

All the traditions and the entire 12th man debacle with the Seahawks just goes to show you that the Aggies take themselves far too seriously.

Seriously, what right does a fanbase have to declare itself so special that only they can declare themselves the 12th man?

You got me.

I think it's very silly. Pandering to the fans. The Seahawks have taken it to a particularly goofy extreme, going so far as to retire the number 12. Desperation shows.

Only thing worse is "We retired #1! Because the fans are #1!"

Minnesota Wild?
