Brian in Boston
Ken Garff Automotive Group - owner of the Arena Football League's Utah Blaze - is partnering with the owners of the East Coast Hockey League's Idaho Steelheads to bring an af2 expansion franchise to Boise, Idaho. The team, which will play in Boise's Qwest Arena, will take the field in time for the 2007 season.
rams80
They seem like such nice fellows, its a shame the af2 has a horrible financial structure. Fools.Especially considering that you really need a larger arena to be a viable team in that league. Mac the Knife
When are people interested in investing in indoor football going to realize that they have to structure themselves basically at a semi-pro level in order to break even or turn a buck?It amazes me how many people look at the AF2, NIFL, AIFL, EIEIOFL and so forth and think "Well, they aren't making any money there, but in (insert your favorite small town with an arena that seats 70% of its population here), we can make it!"To be successful with indoor football (I'm excluding the AFL from this reference simply because apparently there's also an endless supply of idiots willing to buy AFL teams for 20x what they're actually worth), you have to have an ownership group that's willing to do something unheard of - commit to losing money for the first TEN YEARS, to build a brand, and wait long, long term for a payoff. If your pockets aren't deep enough to make that kind of commitment, why bother?

OMMF
At least Spokane now has a rival. Everett doesn't count? There's already a lot of Eastern v Western hate with the Dawgs and Cougs. Not to mention the Chiefs and Silvertips of the WHL.

Not to mention the Chiefs and Silvertips of the WHL. Everett is 0-6 and already had financial problems this year. Not exactly a strong "rival" as they say.
