Sodboy13
I just looked at the ECHL attendance figures, and the Cincinnati Cyclones had a paid attendance of 925 to their game last night. So far, average attendance for the season is 1,820, putting them firmly in dead last leaguewide. What the heck has happened here? Nine years ago, Cincy was a 2-team hockey town (though, admittedly, the 'Clones were on the downswing.) Then, the Ducks pull out, and the replacement AHL franchise can't find 2,000 willing season ticket holders, so they go El Fold-o and end up in Windsor. And now, the new Cyclones are almost guaranteed to be one-year-and-done. Is hockey officially dead in Cincinnati? And how did things get this bad so quickly? floydnimrod
It's sad really. I'm a Cincinnatian(?) and I love hockey, and basketball too. I grew up watching the Mighty Ducks, not the Cyclones, though. We're just not a hockey town anymore. We are a football town, now.Back then, when the Cyclones and Ducks were doing well, the Bengals were not. Those sports are played in the same season(sort of) and now that the Bengals are doing well, no one has that interest in hockey anymore. If I had the money I would go to every home game. But my dad won't get season tickets, because he doesn't like hockey. Seems like that's the case with most people. Coast2CoastAM2006
When the AHL undermined the IHL it pretty much killed hockey in cincinnati, and minor league hockey as a whole. Spoilers!
Guest
Some sports just aren't for some towns, like Pittsburgh and pro basketball.
Dilbert
Hockey is failing in Cincinnati because the Cyclones are playing at US Bank Arena! Everything there is so expensive. Hockey at the Cincinnati Gardens when the Ducks played was affordable family fun. The second reason is it is ECHL hockey and not AHL or NHL. We like top proffessional sports here. Though I know we would never get an NHL team. Signature intentionally left blank
