spyboy1
Here are links to three really cool vintage sports card web pages that I think you'll like.First is the Vintage Football Card Gallery, featuring sets of cards from 1950-1973.It's also easily sortable by player or team, which works great.http://www.footballcardgallery.com/For baseball fans, check out the Virtual Card Collection, featuring a huge number of sets of cards ranging from 1909 up through 1964, most of them complete sets!http://www.vintagecardtraders.org/virtual/Also a great reference is "Baseball Cards 1887-1914" from the Library of Congress. This is one man's collection of over 2000 vintage tobacco cards that was donated to the Library.http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/bbhtml/bbcardsSets1.htmlThe unique thing about these cards is the option to download super hi-res scans of them. How big? Try 5.5 x 10 inches tall at 300 dpi from an original only 1.5 x 2.5 inches! That's essentially an 8x10 enlargement in high res of an original half the size of a playing card. This database is also got some nice search features to get results from your favorite team, city or player. Also if interest on the Library of Congress site are vintage panoramic baseball photographs. I particularly love the old team photos of everyone in a single line.http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/f?pan:...mp/~ammem_P7Po:JeffB Click here to read Third String Goalie - The Hockey Jersey of the Day Blog Click here to see my hockey and baseball jersey collection online ?You don?t like to see 20 kids punching 20 other kids. spyboy1
Glad you guys liked those. It's not very often you can find hi-res pictures of anything online, so the Library of Congress site is a real rare find.On a semi-related note, wasn't there once an web site that documented NFL football jersey history? I've done a search and haven't found the page I seem to recall seeing once upon a time.JeffB Click here to read Third String Goalie - The Hockey Jersey of the Day Blog Click here to see my hockey and baseball jersey collection online ?You don?t like to see 20 kids punching 20 other kids.
