Huntsville (AL) - The Huntsville Stars today unveiled a brand new primary club logo. In keeping with the space theme that is so much a part of the history of the Huntsville community, the Stars new logo features an animated rocket with flame. Team colors will remain the patriotic red, white and blue.

It's a decent upgrade, but I don't like the skewed, forced perspective of the primary logo wordmark.

Ugh. Downgrade. Sure, their primary and script marks needed a makeover, but this was definitely not the way to go. That typeface is overused, and this particular specimen is over-outlined as well. Also, this is so much better than that new Copperplate-esque 'H' logo.

Although I'm not digging the font...the primary and tertiary logos look like they should go together. The H with the star and orbital thing look way too forced. Almost as if they were part of a rejected set.

This would have been an acceptable bit of logo design in the period 1987-1991. Now, it just looks like a mismash of fonts, clip art, and text effects available in Windows 3.0.

Some design instructor somewhere should save an image of that H cap logo as an example of how not to incorporate other shapes into typography.
