rams80
So why do Ivy League schools compete in playoffs for every NCAA sport except football? Anybody know the reason?football is too much of a big money sport for them. They choose not to compete in the I-AA playoffs, as do the Northeast Conference, SWAC, and Pioneer Football League. mantleisthebest7
Here's another question if you dont mind regarding the Ivy League: How come They sort of dropped into the D-1AA or whatever you call it? They used to play with the big boys and stuff, and even have a few heisman winners. Why did they get downgraded and when? Jimmy Eat World
footballfiji
I think the main reason was participation and enrollment. It was beneficial for them to drop down. In all honesty, why be in D-1A when you won't participate in post season stuff? Plainsman Parking Lot. Auburn Baseball Blog

They used to play with the big boys and stuff, and even have a few heisman winners. Why did they get downgraded and when?Because they really, really don't emphasize athletics anymore/academic standards for athletes became lower. Thad
Well really, the Ivies (and a handful of other schools) choose not to participate in the FCS playoffs. The NEC and Pioneer can, but they just don't have an automatic qualifier when it comes to getting in the playoffs. (Just ask Dayton or U of San Diego fans, they'll talk your ears off about that rule) The SWAC has their conference championship game, and use that as their 'playoff'. They used to play with the big boys and stuff, and even have a few heisman winners. Why did they get downgraded and when?Because they don't give out scholarships for athletics. So they dropped down to the lower division in D-I where they can better compete.
JetsLuvver
Ivy League teams are limited to ten-game schedules. It seems that the Ivy didn't choose to move to I-AA, but were downgraded by the NCAA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_I#Fo...hip_Subdivision
Your Name Here
An alumna told me that, when it comes to football, Ivy League teams care about one thing and one thing only: winning the Ivy League. That's right, they're elitists. Though to be fair, SWAC teams don't participate either.
