2008 Baseball Winter Meetings Logo

Indeed.

Plus, now we know what it would look like if they ever build a Star Trek themed casino on the Strip.

But I jest. I actually like the treatment of the ball in particular. Nice rendering that gives it a distinct lunar feel. Something the 51s could refer to if they ever to a redesign.

*Crotchety old man rant to follow*

Does everything need a logo and a sponsor now?!?!?!?!?!

*End of rant*

Since I feel compelled to also critique the logo, I'd say it's not bad. It has a few little flourishes, but it is mostly simple and to the point. I think it actually has an interesting sort of retro Vegas feel to it.

I feel compelled to address your rant...it makes great business sense to have a sponsor and a logo for special events as it subsidizes the costs for conducting/executing said events, instead of A) having a smaller-scale event that benefits few, or B} passing along the cost to the MLB and MiLB teams, who would balk and therefore no more Baseball Winter Meetings.

As for Bank of America, "The Official Bank of Baseball," this is a great event to sponsor as the BWM drives home its association with baseball during the offseason, and considering the coverage the BWM gets on ESPN and the like, BofA receives quite a bit of value from having its logo displayed in the background during newscasts.

This is capitalism at its well-designed best.

I completely understand the value to both sides. It just seems like the volume and reach of these things has increased exponentially in recent years.

In some respects, it seems like sponsorships have come full circle. In the '50s, a game show set might have a huge Geritol wordmark on it. Soon after, that idea seemed ludicrous. Now, when you turn on College GameDay or other shows like that, there almost always seems to be a sponsor's logo incorporated into the set.

For example . . .

I think the intention was a neon-esque look more than anything related to the 51s.

Of course it's not related to the 51s. What I meant to say was that the rendering of the ball, where the blue crescent gives it a sort of moon-like look, would be a good starting point for a 51s redesign.

My first impression was it looks too clip artish or even something out of an EA Sports game for an all-star game or something. Then I thought about it and wondered why clip art is so bad? :therock:
