It was also the most watched NHL game in 36 years!

Two of my roommates (old roommates) are Penguins fans so they had a little get-together for the game. This turned into 30 people with their eyes glued to the TV. It was a super bowl party atmosphere watching a hockey game. Even though I wanted Detroit to win I still appreciated the moment. The only other time I had ever experienced that kind of "event" surrounding a hockey game was the Detroit-Colorado series in 97.

I know the NBA is generally more watched than NHL, but I wonder if this had been the LA Kings or NY Rangers vs. the Penguins would there be less of a gap between the two viewer stats. I'd like to think so.

It seems to me that this year hockey in general was simply just more relevant than years past. When the Bruins finished a strong 2nd back before the lockout it seemed to me that no one really cared, this year the black and gold was everywhere. This makes me wonder, was it like this is in everyone elses market (where the team was some sort of producing results). The NHL seems to be on the rise, hopefully they can get the hell off Versus soon.
