Gentlemen-

With the 2008-09 NHL regular season at an end, I'm going to open this thread dedicated to all the post-season highjinks we've come to expect from the one sport that most Americans could care less about.

I'm not closing the other thread, but I think after 70 pages, we can open this one and see how far it gets before we need to shut it down for the trash talk and other shenanigans.

Enjoy the playoffs.

I think the Devils have a very good team and they have the goaltending to get it done. That's also why I put the jackets way up there. Probably not going to happen but anything's possible. :D

I don't believe a 1-2 and 3-4 matchup is possible in the playoffs at least not until the Conference Final..

Just sayin'.

NEP's Finest (Actually it's my homer picks I really don't want to get in depth especially for these playoffs)

East Quarterfinals

#1 Boston over Montreal 4-2 (Montreal will put up a fight but just gets over powered by the Bruins physicality)

#5 Philadelphia over #4 Pittsburgh 4-3 (Battle of PA goes down to Double OT in Game 7, Biron out duels Fleury)

#6 Carolina over #3 New Jersey 4-3 (Carolina is the hottest team in the NHL and Cam Ward is playing better then he was in 06' and NJ Defense collapses)

#2 Washington over #7 NY Rangers 4-0 (Capitals out score the Rangers in the only sweep of the first round)

West Quarterfinals

#1 San Jose over #8 Anaheim 4-3 (San Jose is the best team for a reason, but this series will be fun to watch because Anaheim can bring the boom if needed)

#5 Calgary over #4 Chicago 4-3 (Calgary will be getting healthy in time for this series hopefully and Calgary can out hit a young Chicago team the regular season matters nothing)

#3 Vancouver over #6 St Louis 4-2 (I'd love for St Louis to win this series and they can the Canucks are far from perfect and the offense has been sputtering of late so don't be surprised if St Louis gets up on Vancouver early and runs away with it.)

#7 Columbus over #2 Detroit 4-3 (The Cinderella of this years playoffs handles there in conference rivals, Detroit's goaltending will cost them the defense of there Cup.)

East Semi-Finals

#6 Carolina over #1 Boston 4-2

#5 Philadelphia over #2 Washington 4-3

West Semi-Finals

#1 San Jose over #7 Columbus 4-2

#5 Calgary over #3 Vancouver 4-3

East Finals

#5 Philadelphia over #6 Carolina 4-2

West Finals

#5 Calgary over #1 San Jose 4-3

Stanley Cup Final

#5 Calgary over #5 Philadelphia 4-3

Behold my somewhat biased yet still possible prediction!

Conference Quarterfinals

East

(1) BOS v. (8) MON - BOS in 5

(2) WAS v. (7) NYR - WAS in 6

(3) NJD v. (6) CAR - CAR in 5

(4) PIT v. (5) PHI - PIT in 7

West

(1) SJS v. (8) ANA - SJS in 6

(2) DET v. (7) CBJ - CBJ in 7

(3) VAN v. (6) STL - VAN in 6

(4) CHI v. (5) CAL - CHI in 7

Conference Semifinals

East

(1) BOS v. (6) CAR - BOS in 7

(2) WAS v. (4) PIT - PIT in 7

West

(1) SJS v. (7) CBJ - SJS in 6

(3) VAN v. (4) CHI - CHI in 6

Conference Finals

East

(1) BOS v. (4) PIT - PIT in 7 (this is where my bias kicks in. I did, and should still, have Boston beating us in 7 [or, really, less])

West

(1) SJS v. (4) CHI - CHI in 7

Stanley Cup Finals

(4) PIT v. (4) CHI - PIT in 7 (the Pittsburgh/Chicago game earlier this year was awesome. Seven more games like it in a rematch of '92 would be an amazing SCF. [im not sure if wed get home ice in this series, but if we do, that also means the cup is won for the second year in a row in the igloo. This time, by the home team.])

First off, I find it really funny that people are picking the Blue Jackets over the Wings in every post. The idea that the first time playoff bound Blue Jackets will win, quite easily, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions and third best record, is very funny. So the reg. season match ended 3-3 games each. Detroit has the experience that the Jackets don't.

I've officially picked Columbus in 6 games in this thread. My homerism wouldn't allow me to go against them, but in my head I'm thinking that the Red Wings will take the series in 6 games where they dominate in their 4 wins. I'd so much rather play Vancouver in this first round.

I had the Jackets winning in 7. If I had to be specific, id say most of the games go into overtime, and each one is a goal difference. A combination of Pens-fan resentment towards the Wings, a new found liking of the Blue Jackets, and the fact that the Jackets just plain look like a perfect underdog winner contributes to this answer.

Not to mention a great difference in goaltending. Detroit's average-skilled tandem of Osgood and Conklin < Stonewall Mason
