ARTnSocal
>I would have never envisioned that this will be the soccer kit worn by Great Britain at London 2012 ... The one below is apparently the GB supporters shirt they're selling as souvenirs .... looks like it would have a much better look to represent GB than the one on top, IMO.*** apologies if this subject has already been discussed in a prior thread
xTr1pleXx
Neither of them look any good. The second looks marginally better than the first, but they both look terrible. They were in a bit of a bind since the three national colors - blue, red, and white - are the primary shirt colors of Scotland, Wales, and England, respectively. Perhaps blue and white stripes would've been their best bet.Either way, you would expect that the nation who invented the damn sport would wear more traditional looking jerseys when they're hosting the Olympics. 1923 1927 1928 1932 1936 1937 1938 1939 1941 1943 1947 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1956 1958 1961 1962 1977 1978 1996 1998 1999 2000 2009
DCDuck
Either way, you would expect that the nation who invented the damn sport would wear more traditional looking jerseys when they're hosting the Olympics. But they've apparently opted for an "aggressive, modern" look, as evidenced by their choice of logo for the Olympics themselves. I guess they needed a hideous uniform to match the hideous Olympic logo.

I guess they needed a hideous uniform to match the hideous Olympic logo.I absolutely hate the branding that the British have used for these Olympics. Then again, I'm not sure anybody likes it. The logo is downright hideous, the "Team GB" gear is generally pretty awful, and a lot of the promotional videos and materials look like some 2010's version of "Cool Britannia."I get that Britain, as a very modern nation, wants to present some ultra-modern image. I don't think they need to do that to get people to realize they're a modern nation that's extremely significant both economically and culturally to this day (which I think is ultimately what they're aiming for: to be seen as modern and fun instead of traditional and stuck in the 1600's).Britain has a legendary history of art and design, and more notable landmarks than just about anywhere else on Earth: there's so many traditional elements they could draw off of to make a modern, visually appealing design that is distinctly British. Instead, we get this mess.EDIT: And Britain's image as a modern, contemporary nation has been completely ruined by Piers Morgan's insane enthusiasm over boats floating down the Thames. Guess these jerseys are necessary now. 1923 1927 1928 1932 1936 1937 1938 1939 1941 1943 1947 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1956 1958 1961 1962 1977 1978 1996 1998 1999 2000 2009

Gothamite
You can't blame Britain for Piers Morgan being a lying prat. There's a reason he lives in America now. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
Saintsfan
You have to remember that the soccer uniforms have to fit into the general olympic team outfits. I actually think in that context they are actually very good. People will be able to pick out team GB whatever the sport. And Piers Morgan may well be a t*t, but the Royal Pageant down the Thames was damned impressive. #waves Union flag # 2011/12 WFL Champions
