Dirk West's SWC mascots

Dirk West was a Lubbock artist who might best be known as the creator of Nebraska's 1970s Cornhusker-giving-the-okay-sign logo. He did a lot of SWC mascots that appeared as posters and on T-shirts. Here's a collection:

What is the deal with the Phi Beta Kappa chain on the Rice one?

Presumably a nod to Rice's status as NERRRRRRRDS!
