Can someone explain to a non-college sports fan why those two schools were so unattractive to any of the major conferences?  Is it just on-field performance? Or that they’re not worth anything from a TV market / revenue standpoint?

Wazzu is legitimately in the middle of nowhere almost in Idaho and an 80 mile drive from the closest airport in Spokane.  Other than Ryan Leaf and Klay Thompson (and the late Mike Leach using it as a rebound gig) it has nothing going for it.  Plus the athletic facilities aren't great.

OrSt is closer to Portland than Oregon but other than just having its football stadium renovated it's not really much of anything.  Sure, there's a small Nike connection but not in the same galaxy as that down in Eugene.

So, both schools were definitely lower echelon in the PAC and not exactly what a Power 4 conference would covet.

What I don't get is that you have to not only be fat enough to have large folds, but those folds have to be able to actually hold the gun.  Like, imagine a large breast holding a pencil under it.  That's kind of what I'm (unfortunately) picturing, just with a gut and a gun.

And to be large enough to pull this off, are you really agile enough to pull and use the gun in any situation in which you'd need it?

The other thing to wrap one's head around... how is it that metal detectors can pick up artificial knees and pacemakers and yet somehow a fully loaded gun tucked under a few rolls of fat doesn't trigger anything?

  3. The Wolves have always been known for disregarding the wishes of their affiliate club when it comes to roster management hence why they've always had a revolving door situation.  It sounds like the Hurricanes were just the one club push back and with so many other AHL clubs being owned and operated by the parent club for development purposes the Wolves saw that their act wasn't going to fly anymore unless they went independent.

What I meant was that Harper kept hitting in the same season, even with the tear, knowing he’d need TJ. Something about the UCL allows you to do the swinging motion without much pain, even though you can’t throw.

    Two key differences:

    1. Harper fields right handed and bats left, so his right elbow needed TJ and that’s his bottom arm when batting.

    2. Phillies were competing for playoffs / championships. Angels aren’t.

It's the same scenario as 2018.  He'll keep hitting until he gets surgery in the offseason then be back out there as a DH next season.

It’s possible they knew there was some damage there and it would come out when his new team did a physical, so they kept him rather than go through the trouble.

I hope like Harper, he can at least hit through it before going through TJ, though it would make sense to do that ASAP. May have cost himself $100M or more. Terrible luck.

He had TJ in 2018 and was able to hit the next season.

But, I can't shake the feeling that Ohtani and Trout are just sacrificial lambs to the cosmic karma that is coming due for Moreno.  The way that he runs the organization, as best described by an ESPN article, is buying a McLaren and taking it to Jiffy Lube.  For years, Moreno has made it habitual that he had to make a stupid big money free agent signing out of ego to try to overshadow whatever signing the Dodgers made.  Zack Greinke leaves for the Dodgers, Josh Hamilton, come on down!  And other cases where he overruled his general managers for stupid reasons: Gary Matthews Jr., Justin Upton, Albert Pujols, Vernon Wells, Anthony Rendon, etc. etc.

But, what do you do when you blow all your money on stupid acquisitions?  Gut the scouting department!  Make GM after GM commit seppuku!  Force your minor leaguers to live with 8 roommates in a two-bedroom apartment and survive on gas station mini mart hot dogs!

And why stop there?  Let's also for good measure bribe the mayor for a sweetheart stadium deal and allow a drug ring to function under your roof.

I used to be an Angel fan.  I'm so glad that I jumped off that train years ago.

(Also, the pessimist in me fully embraces the theory that Ohtani wasn't traded due to the fact that 75% of the in-stadium ads at the stadium are from Japanese companies and Moreno, being a billboard guy, wasn't going to risk losing revenue with all those companies pulling out.  I mean, come on, they even have stadium billboards for Japanese cat treats.)

obviously the situation in CA is more important,  but I think this eliminated my chances of seeing Ohtani pitch live next week.

    Can’t blame the weather now.

    But wait, there’s more!

Karma is coming right for Arte Moreno. He let his ego torpedo the sale and now that the reports are coming out about the corruption with the stadium deals you can’t help but see something cosmic at play here.

I do not think Brewers will go anywhere. MLB does not want headache of yet another tean trying to relocate after the multi decade A's and Rays sagas

The headache wasn't the actual relocation part.  The headache was with the teams trying to get new stadiums in their home markets despite decrepit infrastructure and lengthy leases.  If the A's and Rays were allowed to explore relocation years ago we wouldn't be in this situation either by the teams already being in new markets or the home markets acting due to relocation threats that actually had urgency to them.
