  1. There is literally no precedent for a media personality calling out his boss on the air. No one has ever done this before. This is not normal. Anyway, Jim Spanfeller is a herb.
  2. Electric/Honolulu blue sweaters and socks with black helmets and breezers is so obvious but they can't seem to do it outside of an alt or two. And any version of the Florida Bolt is better than anything they've actually used as a primary.
  3. the most beloved trophy in sports getting out-SEOed by a :censored:ing Starbucks promotion
  4. Despite the primacy of the SEC, Atlanta is the largest and most important city in the region and the NFL can't not be there.
  5. The Falcons have never had a great uniform. The original with red helmets, black jerseys, and white pants was good enough, but pretty much an export of the Georgia Bulldogs. Something that attempted to be a real UGA/GT synthesis, not just a little gold strip of masking tape on the helmets, could be interesting, but then you're bumping into the Saints a little. The '80s red/silver was also good enough, and everything from Dirty South Raiders onward has been bad. Always gives the NFL in Atlanta a "we're here because demographically we have to be" vibe, to be honest.
  6. I hope the Steelers beat a resting Ravens team and the Texans beat the Colts. Impressive what Tomlin was able to wring out of that garbage roster yet again, and Houston seems due for some good football vibes after Megachurch Rasputin, DeShaun Watson, and watching the Titans play Oilers dress-up. Hoping for the Bills over the Jaguars; fun story last year but with Trevor "www.menwholooklikeoldlesbians.com" Lawrence on the shelf, it's less interesting.
  7. There is none. He wasted his money doing bad-faith paperwork.
  8. Seattle Washington (INDEPENDENT) Hockey Team Yeah, I think the design is fine, and even if it's not, who cares? I have no respect for someone squatting on someone else's intellectual property from 100 years ago.
  9. I remember the Bears went over Matt Nagy's head to retain Vic Fangio. Three big winners in that sentence. Outside of the NFL, the Blackhawks always did this to Joel Quenneville, where the assistants were hired from above and didn't really report to him. This included the video nonce.
  10. I don't think they'll give up on Sirianni immediately but I can see a good chunk of his staff getting flushed. Non-zero chance, as you said. Not sure whether the Bears are dumb enough to bring back Matt Eberflus after two of his coaches got fired for HR violations and the team started the season looking like they'd go on to be a historically bad team. But it seems like Justin Fields was able to pad his stats in enough meaningless games on a last-place schedule that they're going to keep everyone together.
  11. He's not from America. He may think Philadelphia is just coated with a layer of ambient grease. Good educated guess, though.
  12. The Bears could get a first for Justin Fields from an idiot if they try, but then again they're kind of idiots themselves and may have talked themselves into keeping him.
  13. The Bulls and Hawks each own 50% of the arena and its holding company, a big part of how the Blackhawks "lost money" winning championships.
  14. I am not some Christian zealot but I feel Satan's presence in omnipresent gambling content.
  15. Well, whatever they do, I'm sure it'll have all the environmental considerations, pedestrian-friendliness, and aesthetic charm that we've come to expect from the North Texas Disgruntled Taxpayer Containment Zone. I mean Dallas-Fort Worth.
  16. Oh good lord I thought we agreed not to talk about Game of Thrones.
  17. Nobody cares! Just talk about eating the Pop-Tart man.
  18. Ethan Strauss wrote about the NFL taking Christmas away from the NBA: Interesting stuff about the vagaries of "out-of-home viewing." Feels like an easy way to fudge numbers, sort of like how the NHL started pushing "tickets distributed."
  19. Yeah, but they're doing it without him, that's the feel-good part. I mean, yes, they still signed him, but we can't live in the past.
  20. Yes, but all that was under Marc Lasry's ownership and Scott Walker's governorship. Herb got the Bradley Center for free. His responsibility for the Bucks' recent success is that he could have sold the Bucks to Michael Jordan in the early 2000s, who probably would have moved the team, but ultimately chose not to. I think he kicked in some money toward the arena, but most of it came from taxpayers and from robbing the UW system. What I remember about Kohl's time owning the Bucks is that it was kind of the worst of all possible worlds: he seemed to be too busy being a senator to do a good job running the team, but still found time to meddle poorly, and in doing so wasn't even a magnificently bombastic idiot like Vivek or Dolan or the Maloofs, he just quietly made them a lousy organization.* Part of the reason it was kinda neat to see the Bucks win the title is that they're Milwaukee's answer to the Blackhawks, a fanbase that was just beaten into non-existence, so they're kindred spirits to an extent. *EDIT: Kohl was a classic Stern Guy, a mid-market owner who never got any big ideas or made any waves, see also, Bill Davidson, Larry Miller, Les Alexander, whoever owns the Spurs, contra selfish nuisances like Ted Turner, Jerry Buss, Jerry Reinsdorf, and later Mark Cuban. Lasry/Edens, however, are classic Silver Guys: more douchebags who run hedge funds.
  21. Thrilled for Browns fans. Everyone outside the AFC North without a dog in the fight should be behind these guys. What a story.
  22. I don't think he really ripped anyone off, he's on a rookie deal, he's just not complete enough to win playoff games with. I think he'll be an enticing project for a team or two until his legs give out. I could see the Falcons or Saints taking a flyer on him, maybe the Broncos, maybe even the Raiders, they're always doing dumb crap that makes no sense.
