  1. The only thing dumber than pitchers throwing retaliatory pitches at players is fighting in hockey. It’s some sideshow garbage that has hurts the legitimacy of the sport and makes it even easier to not take seriously. I get it “Tradition” and “strategy”, but it’s stupid and is off putting to most people.
  2. Unfortunately, this is probably true.
  3. Who said I was vindictive? I was just stating the truth. Houston didn’t want to cave to Adams, but then basically did the exact same thing to bring in the Texans (Public money was still like 65% of the funding for NRG). I’m just saying it seems a little foolish to take such a hardline stance that you lose the team, and still end up on the hook for nearly that much for a new franchise with no fan history. Also why am I getting piled on for throwing a little friendly trash talk Houston’s way? That’s been en vogue since like 2017. Don’t blame me, blame the Astros.
  4. It’s mostly just a gentle ribbing for all of the controversy recently. That and the Rockets were annoying as all hell during the Warriors run. I’m a Giants fan so I mostly think it’s funny as all hell what happened to the Dodgers in 2017 rather than outrageous, but yeah, that was kind of outrageous. Also I feel like Houston barely put up a fight to keep the Oilers, only so they could be replaced by the most generic and forgettable team in the NFL. I really don’t get some of the 90s NFL moves. Oilers, who rocked, bounced because they were scared they wouldn’t get a new stadium, just so they could get replaced by an expansion team, the Texans, who are a snooze fest, who had basically zero issue getting a new stadium. It all just seems so frivolous, shortsighted, and reactionary. It’s like Jacksonville getting a team over Baltimore which led to the whole Browns controversy. Like, ultimately, was ANY of that actually necessary?
  5. I remember this well. My dad’s family is from Memphis and I remember my cousin bringing home a Tennessee Oilers shirt. I also remember him throwing it away when he found out they were going to be based in Nashville (I also remember everyone being really pissed they weren’t getting a home game vs Dallas) Memphis wasn’t having any of that, being a two year stop on their way to Nashville, and I’m pretty sure they ended up in Vanderbilt’s stadium for the second year as the Oilers.
  6. No city deserves this kinda smoke more than Houston. Well done, Titans.
  7. Your current favorite team (and mine) look nothing like they did when we were young kids. Even with that, people still recognize and clamor for the old set. Strange position, indeed.
  8. I mean Colorado is just going to go to the Big 12 and be just as irrelevant as they were in the PAC 12 (and the first time they were in the Big 12). Colorado and Utah were both pretty bold moves by the PAC, but the truth is neither is a very good fit. Utah at least made it work but Colorado never found their footing. College sports is basically dead on the west coast anyway, so even if the PAC completely implodes (which I still don’t think it will), oh well. Not many are really going to miss it anymore.
  9. Gonna have to go to a totally different kinda forum for that one, bud.
  10. Yeah this idea might be fun, but ultimately it’s nuts. I worked for several years in the front office for what is probably a top 3 club in USL at the lowest (unless things have drastically changed since 2019) and they basically never had money. Like, the entire operation was as bare bones as they could possibly get without tipping people off to it. The rest was borrowed or theoretical, predicated on some long shot plans that ultimately fell through. I can’t imagine many clubs in that league have much more capital to work with (or the ability to find that in investors, who would ultimately look at it and realize most of it isn’t that valuable anyway and it would be better off just starting something new). USL is a great thing for what it is, but there’s a lot of pretending going on there when it comes to what the actual ceiling is. At least, IMO.
  11. Yeah, :censored: the Texans. Bring back the Oilers. Holy crap
  12. They’re the Free Willy team and that’s good enough for me.
  13. Nationally? Yes, absolutely. But living in Niners/Raiders territory I remember Seahawks fans I met being pretty intense. They reminded me of the football version of the Sacramento Kings. Team was trash, they didn’t have many fans, but the few they did were rabid. I think it’s why they were so obnoxious during the LoB era. It was decades of pent up frustration from long time fans finally coming out, and all of the bandwagoners just followed that emotional lead. A lot of times when a team gets good fans are just like “this is awesome!” Seahawks fans, otoh, came out with the mentality that it was FINALLY time that they get some respect. Knowing how ignored that team was (bad enough to be one of the worst, but not bad enough to get attention from it like their expansion partners, the Bucs)? I kinda get it
  14. That’s exactly what’s so great about these. The first ever bar fight I ever saw was between a Raiders fan and a Seahawks fan and my first reaction was, wait, there’s a team called the Seahawks? They were so irrelevant for so long that it was almost cute to Niners fans to have them in their division. Then the Seahawks got a new stadium and got more competitive and Niners fans didn’t like that so much all of the sudden. Then Nike and Pete Carroll and LoB happened and they REALLY didn’t like that. I’ve gone from not knowing who they were to liking them a bit to REALLY hating them to having a bit of an earned respect for them now. Not too many teams in the league have had that much of a well rounded story arc in my head narrative.
  15. I don’t disagree with that, but I think it’s the biggest issue I have with it. It reminds me too much of what the Astros used to use. Feels very strange for the Rangers, especially considering they use white instead of cream in their set. The rest of the logo, though? Pretty good!
  16. You can miss me with some of that Pigskins stuff, but as for the uniform part, I 100% agree. Washington would’ve been just fine if they had, like, just kept the Washington Football Team name with these uniforms (sans shoulder logo, as you said). The more simple the better for a team in their predicament. The blank leather looking helmet is perfect. It harkens back to an era the NFL constantly romanticizes, is completely unique in the NFL (even the Browns have stripes), and solves their branding issue without looking completely stupid or contrived (like they currently do).
  17. Woah Jeff Passan gets murked by a tree branch. Busted back. Hope he recovers soon!
  18. And my dumb ass gave away the free tickets I had to the final round today Stephen Curry eagles 18th hole to win American Century Golf Championship I know it’s only a celebrity golf tournament, but Steph is only the third active athlete to win this tournament. That’s crazy. Is there anything this guy can’t do? Lebron is definitely this generation’s goat, but there really isn’t a player that’s more fun than Steph. It’s taken decades of brand building and a ton of effort to make Lebron seem cool, and half of the time he still doesn’t. Steph, otoh, just seems to fall backwards into it effortlessly. I can’t even imagine being that kind of person. It must rock.
  19. That’s actually my favorite thing about these. I firmly believe that the main reason why people seem to love them so much now is scarcity. If the Bucs had worn these twice a season for the past two decades, people would be just as tired of them now as they were when they originally moved on from them. I love the Bucs, and really do genuinely like the creamsicles. But they’re better relegated to the past sans a handful of special occasions.
  20. I was with you until this drivel. Bucs set is fantastic.
  21. After all this you just know the Coyotes are going to end up playing in the parking Iot of an apartment complex in Ahwatukee.
  22. Speaking of rookies making big impressions, it looks like the Giants may have found their catcher of the future in Patrick Bailey. I was so annoyed when they picked him while already having Joey Bart on the roster, too.
  23. Still nowhere near as good as their main set. The Southside wordmark kills it. Again, not terrible in a vacuum, but still pretty goofy and just doesn’t fit the Marlins that well imo. I’ll admit those two in particular are probably the two best sets to come from this series. But both of those have the same thing in common. They were towards the very top of this set, and also some of the very first released. It’s been basically all downhill from there. And if those two sets are the best you can do in a league wide uniform program, it’s probably time to scrap them and move on.
  24. I said awhile ago and I’ll say it again now. None of these City Connect unis have been good. Not a single one. They’ve ranged from “Oh, that’s weird, but not awful I guess” to straight up None of these have been valuable enough to keep in the current rotation. It’s all been convoluted garbage that’ll end up selling for discount at Ross in big numbers.
  25. Lol, yeah I think I would buy this one a lot more if we didn’t CONSTANTLY put heterosexual relationships under microscopes and if we didn’t have entire industries that built themselves off of the objectification of women. I’m sorry, but you can’t pick and choose on this one as much as you’re hoping you can.
