  1. I was just on the Vikings website. From what I can tell, the center of the field (where the "Norseman Logo is) and the endzones are swapable with a system much like what is used at Met Life field. The numbers are not a part of that system. They can be painted over, but with the shorter time frame to set up the stadium. I think they might keep the numbers as they are now.

Is it certain they won't swap out the Vikes' numbers with generic ones? They did that last year (unless the Texans added theirs this season):

    (best I could find)

I think the Titans just added them this past year. I have seen pictures of US Bank stadium with both the Vikings number font intact, and when they play Baseball for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, I have seen severly faded numbers

I love the work that Pitt6Pack has done, ...But I wanted to mention that I believe the Jaguars endzone would include "Jacksonville" atop the wordmark. Virtually everything sold here in Jacksonville appears with the wordmark as such.

It would also make way for a little more color; As it would most likely have Jacksonville in Gold (small) and Jaguars in white (big) ...(similar to the Arizona Cardinals wordmark).

I would agree if this was a "normal" world. But this is the NFL, and things have a tendency to change without warning. Case in point, last years Super Bowl The Atlanta Falcons usualy put the entire wordmark in the endzone. The NFL put only "Falcons" and the logo in the endzone. I am sure if the AZ Cardnials where represented it would also be with a single wordmark. Just in the Super Bowl. But then, things change. So your miliage may vary! ;-)

They took away the purple outlines from the field, but the numbers are still there as is, so maybe they will keep them. I was wrong about them replacing the entire field, and my thoughts on the numbers were based on them replacing the field. So I can see them just using the numbers that are already there. We'll see as the week goes on. Hopefully they bring back outlines for the team colors.

We will see, would be interesting though. I am wondering if they will just paint over them. The machines running on the field look like they are cleaning the playing surface, and vacuming up all the rubber gromlets used as the current fill, as they get ready to paint the field. I know during the Divisional game, US Bank Stadium's fleld looked like it's filler had a lot more than other fields that use a similar surface. A very "grainy" look, especially looking at the 3 yard white sidelines during the game.

Easy enough, I've just been working on other things recently. I do try to keep this thread low on requests though, since I have hundreds of past fields to still work on.

I can understand that, I am still working on my 1983 Pontiac Silverdome field, That Lions 50th Anniversary logo is kicking my butt!

I still think they'd completely replace the turf for the game, so my guess is they'd use the format from the past two years. But let's hope that of the Vikings do make it, they'll change the endzone.

I can speak for this year, but 10 of the 32 teams have had location in one endzone, and just team name in the other. I'm not entirely sure how those numbers have been throughout history, or just in recent years, since I'm missing a large number of fields not re-created yet.

Of the teams I have documentation on. The Lions in the early 70's (while playing at Tiger Stadium) either had no endzone markings or diamonds (during baseball season) Then "LIONS" in the south endzone and the vistors team name in the north endzone. When they moved to the silverdome, it was always "LIONS" in both endzones. And then Ford Field, it has been "LIONS" or Detroit Lions in both endzones. As for the Cardnials; while in St Louis, I could not find any evidence of wordmarks in the endzones. Just the occasional "diamons" or a "Cardinal Head" . When they moved to Tempe, the endzones have always said Phoenix (or Arizona) in one endzone and Cardinals in the other, and that alternated, based on how Arizona State lettered the endzones that year, Then when the University of Phoenix Stadium opened the field has looked the same every year. As for Philly, in the Vet the endzones where either blank, had their secondary "Eagle" in Flight logo or the word "Eagles" occasionaly with the NFC and NFL logos on the corner's. So far in the "Linc" it has always been Eagles" from what I have pictures of. Only exception has been plyoff games where NFC logos of NFL shields have been added in,

Do you realize that as a result of this project, you almost certainly have to be considered one of the world's leading experts on the history of Super Bowl field design?

Yes, in many ways this would be true for pitt. But we all have contributed to this legacy. Just by our responces, our requests. And by providing the information, pictures, weblinks, personal recolections; as well as youtube videos and diagrams. We all have made this one of the longest running threads on the CCSLC boards!

    2017 Cincinnati Bengals

Inclusion of the 50th season logo. Also changes to the color pattern in the green part of the turf, with light and dark alternating every 5 yards instead of 10.

2017 Los Angeles Chargers (Predicted First Field)

This is about the same field as the one used for the Chargers first preseason game. The only change I made was filling in the boarder for the sidelines. I'd expect this to be the field they use until the MLS season ends.

Yep, I was working on The Stub Hub Center as well. Mine was going to be with out the soccer markings. But looking at The schedule of the first few games, I can imagine they would still be visible during the season.

Very nice!  I'm just wondering when they added the additional stars to the silhouette?  In that 1986 NFC Championship game there is only the one star for the Meadowlands complex itself on the silhouette - and it also looks like there's still just that one star on the logo during the Giants-Bears 1990 NFC Divisional game, as well.  So I'm guessing the other stars were added after 1990...  Interesting.

I think it was 1995. I know the field at Giants Stadium went to grass a few years later and then the same type of turf the Pontiac Silverdome had before it closed.

  10. Very good  job. The End Zone script is really close. The field logo is a but narrow length wise (Enter edges need to extend to the last hash mark on both sides.) and the "stars" showing the different locations of the New Jersey sports commission need to be added in.

  11. Unfortunately, with the NFL (the "No Fun League" or "Not For Long" depending on your preference) standards currently in effect, most teams no longer have the "One shot" field (except for a "legacy" field such as San Diego, Denver, and Miami had recently) ability. Not to mention all yard lines and hash marks need to be visible for the officials. Its a real bummer. Heck I referee HS football in AZ, and some fields here only have the main yard lines and hash marks only. So as an "U" (or umpire) if i can get it right, why is the NFL so special? LOL

    Made my final updates

    51.png

The sideline banners were red in the areas seen in this re-creation. I made the Patriots navy a bit lighter. I also made the Super Bowl logos darker. They were sort of hard to see on the field, and didn't really look good. The template logos have never been painted consistently, except for maybe Super Bowls XLVI and XLVII. Last small change, I made the two point line wider.

If only I could change a certain play call or two, maybe the Falcons would be kicking a field goal to take an 11 point lead.

    That is the truth,

I was not very confident with the Play calling by the Falcons on the critical series. A big sack, a really bad time to get a holding penalty, and what was that call on 3rd down? A sideline pattern that was way out of bounds!

  13. Field quality was good to start, but got worse in the second half big time. The reason why the paint started to fade was the stage set for Lady Gaga. The stage tunnel was to the left of the field and all the equipment had to go through the Patriots end zone. I am wondering with the fields, if the "walk through" of both teams and the stage prep the night before did a number on ERG Stadiums' field, and because of the "fiasco" of the Hall of Fame game's markings. DID the NFL go with a new formula of paint?

Not the NFL, but after watching the ESPN 30 for 30 on the XFL this was the field that the teams used in its only season.

The only thing about the XFL I remember was the first game in LA where Dwayne "The ROCK" Johnson, was standing at midfield to cut a promo for the leagues start, and the PA system in the stadium did not work for 4 minutes, and he stood there, and stood, and stood. Until they got they got the PA system working. I liked the USFL far better, I miss the Michigan Panthers and the Arizona Wranglers. Two of the better designed uniforms in the league!
