  1. Speaking of local news, isn't it surprising how little the Seattle Times cares about the Coyotes? It's a pretty stark contrast to their up-to-the-second reporting on the Kings/Hansen saga.
  2. The more I think, the more it's best for the Seattle NHL team to come online first. If an NHL team followed the new Sonics, it'd be much harder to get Seattle's attention on another winter sport. By coming first, the Coyotes have another couple of years to establish themselves as part of the sports landscape before having to compete with the Sonics. It's probably the best way to establish both teams in the long-run.
  3. Whose to say they aren't currently done/in the works? Whose to say they will even change the logo and jersey (minus the Arizona patch)? We may have a Tennessee Oilers situation for this upcoming season. Swap the colors to the Sounders/Seahawks palette and call it good. Easy.
  4. Plus Huskies football and basketball. The latter has the most schedule overlap and serves a different market, but you can fit 10,000 for basketball at Hec Ed. Even still, I think the NHL could reliably cobble together 9-11,000 fans each night, no problem. I'd go twice and buy a jersey. I still don't get why that's preferable to 20,000 a night in Quebec, but whatevs.
  5. I'm not sure who are what you're upset with here. While the Kings poaching was more or less supported by all levels of Seattle public and private interests, the Coyotes deal is more of an "okay, that's cool" kind of deal. There's a small piece on the Seattle Times site about it today, with just three comments. And even then, the piece is more about what an NHL team would do for the NBA arena, not about NHL for the NHL's sake. I don't know all of the players in this deal, but this -- to me -- seems radically different than that Kings saga. That, at its core, was one city trying to take another's team. This is more a gift horse, if it even happens. What a dumb way for a city to land an NHL franchise. And how sad that the NHL seems to place so little value on its product that it could let it happen.
  6. You know how I know you aren't from here? That's fair, but I've been here almost seven years. I don't see a latent demand for hockey. At all really. Granted, I've never been to Kent to watch Thunderbirds, but I have seen them at KeyArena. It wasn't an impressive showing, on any account. I'd be happy if it all worked out here. I just don't expect it to.
  7. "But...but the Seattle Storm's lease with the city only gives them the space for the gift shop and no suite revenues, nor any naming rights to KeyArena (which expired in 2010). Seattle is a goldmine ready for owners to make a profit!!!!!" If it is Seattle, then Don Levin has shown the Board of Governors that he has the cash in escrow. I don't think there's a money problem in Seattle, but I do think there's an interest one. Ha -- I overlooked the Storm, Seattle's only two-time champion team. I don't feel bad, either.
  8. 1. Seahawks 2. UW football 3. Mariners 4. Sounders 5. UW basketball 6. Reminiscing about the Sonics while watching Macklemore videos 7. Rooting for Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer's pursuit of the NBA 8. Rat City Rollergirls 9. Seattle NHL team And if the NHL did come to Seattle, then what? There's no guarantee of an arena to ever be built, there's no history of hockey support in this arena, and even if a new arena were constructed, the Seattle Coyotes would be permanently second place to Sonics 2.0. I love for cool new things to come to my city, but I'm not so blinded by civic pride that I can't see this being a terrible idea. It'd be fun to see NHL hockey at KeyArena once or twice, but long-term? I just don't see it.
  9. At this point, Bettman and the legislators are throwing b#tch slaps at Quebec. How did Seattle jump to the forefront of NHL relocation? Because it's the second-stupidest option to staying in Phoenix.
  10. I would laugh so hard if the Coyotes ended up here in the fall. There's no fun euro-scarves to buy, no romanticism of Seattle's early-90s glory days, and no perceived local interest in hockey. But sure, why not bring the NHL here. I'd go when they play the Sabres, which I think would actually never happen. Fun!
  11. Going back a couple of pages, I thought the Falcons looked way better with black pants, especially on the road:
  12. Maybe there are different types. I helped with an indiegogo that didn't reach it's goal but did collect funds. I stand by my original description of the indiegogo account holder
  13. Indiegogo is different from Kickstarter in that a campaign keeps its funding even if it doesn't reach its goal. So, yeah, you just lost $20. These guys are kind of jerks. There's no way they'll reach $180 million, but they might collect a bundle in gag pledges from people who don't know better.
  14. So the takeaway is to build fakes in the US, right? I'm only half-joking.
  15. Yeah, I don't see Seattle being a good idea for the NHL at all. With the Sonics decision supposedly being previewed on Monday, perhaps we'll be able to settle the fate of the Coyotes sooner than later. Seattle is an objectively worse pro hockey market than Quebec City, which is precisely why it's more likely to happen.
  16. The other thing sitting in the wrong seat does is set off a chain reaction of "whatevs." You're supposed to be in seat 13, but someone's there, so you sit in 15, but 15 comes and they site in 17, but then someone with 14, 15, 16, and 17 shows up and it's a big mess. If it's a ticketed event, sit in your ticketed seat. There's really no defensible alternative.
  17. I think the admiral is wasting his talents here. Your country needs you. I want a cynical but poignant tumble blog asap.
  18. I think this is actually key. Most jerseys I've seen look significantly better in person, especially the on-field or on-court authentics. Even with HDTV, uniform colors and materials don't translate as well through the television; you really have to see them to appreciate their quality.
  19. "What a tool. I'm mocking you! You don't dare mess with a Christian." And that's only page 2!
