  1. Before these dropped the BASS podcast was going to do an All-Time Big Four Alternate Jersey Hall of Failure, so I've been looking up some of the worst thirds in sports history, and I mean, I don't know how I don't give it to this. I mean this is probably the worst: Then there's this guy: And these: But I feel like those are even mildly superior to the Smashville disgraces. It's a close thing.
  2. I mean this Predators affair is genuinely worrisome. This passed muster. Someone, or more likely someones, all with working eyes, signed off on this.
  3. The Auston Matthews mustache era mercifully ends. That said, he still looks like a horny Phil Kessel in a balding vampire wig.
  4. The helmets are kinda dumb, sure, but it's the white gloves that make me hate this.
  5. Seconded. Ads suck, but subscribing to content you enjoy for a pittance is more than fair.
  6. We're in a new era of hockey. According to a few people online and in life that I've encountered discussing the Beach and Murray situations, we're in the "it's all going to hell" generation of sports where men can't be men anymore, whatever that means.
  7. So much excitement for Chris Driedger to start after Grubauer has been melting down in real time. He plays well, aside for giving up 3 Golden Knights goals in less than 90 seconds.
  8. Word. Another nearby college had a radio situation like that which seemed kind of okay. The student-staffed school station I was at didn't have any of that. Mostly a few egos from people who were either trying desperately to be Kenny Mayne, Howard Stern, or Jim Rome. All of them ended up working for local media and are simple family people, which is fine. Kudos to them. None of them were particularly talented, but good for them for getting into the local biz and making a life out of it. I went to several Illinois conferences and radio/media get-together-ish things, met some names (the only ones that stand out were Ray Clay and a phone call with Mike North). It was mostly an excuse to rub shoulders, get drunk, hand out swag, and make mischief. Anyway, I didn't have a career in the industry, I don't know anything, and I'm just telling stories at this point.
  9. I was absolutely aspiring to be a journalist/radio reporter when I was in college, and worked at a local radio station briefly while taking journalism classes. The journalism classes were useful in that they informed everybody they'd be poor, their creative writing had no place in the world, and it's all about making connections and knowing important people. My radio courses were all about learning the software while several students had sex with the teacher who unceremoniously skipped town (and stole my guitar). While I worked at the radio station I got to observe a lot of people in their 30s/40s/50s all backstabbing one another and doing petty crap simply because it sent the flimsiest of messages. Needless to say, I didn't go into either field, so when pieces like this come up from those who, at least from a journalism/substack/written-form sect, "made it" into the career arcs of that industry, it's amazing to see these personalities who I got a brief snapshot of 15 years ago or so are still the apparent norm. Thus the fascination. It's not that he's wrong, necessarily, but when the curtain gets pulled back on these industry metaverses to reveal the petty and demeaning garbage-flinging, I can't look away.
  10. This is fascinating and reads like a terrorist manifesto.
  11. The GWG was so sad, too. Grubauer looks like a big ol’ sack of ass. 5 goals on 22 shots, the last of which casually farts into the net after a phenomenal empty-net Kraken goal to tie. Thankfully he’s only *checks notes* here for another 5 years for over $30 million. Also Seattle’s power play is historically bad. Not an exaggeration. After years of watching the Blackhawks shart a dismal power play on the ice, I’ve apparently discovered I’m a sadist, for the Kraken are actively putting on a show of special teams buffoonery the likes of which has rarely ever been seen. At least the Coyotes look like the Coyotes again.
  12. Don't go into the barstool subreddit. They're bathing themselves in glory.
  13. The Ducks just need to pick a lane. If you're going to use the D foot, fine, but get your together otherwise. Everything they are right now is a brand salad topped with bad 2010-ish uniform trends. The Capitals aren't far behind with the same sins.
  14. From what I saw of that guy's account I think he custom makes all of these, but I could be wrong.
  15. I imagine the meeting was simply them each removing their skin masks to reveal the lizard faces beneath, sharing an exchanged series of nods, hisses, and tongue flicks before re-masking and going about their days.
  16. Saw this in a twitter comment. Why does this exist?
  17. Q out in Florida. Looks like they’re hiring Torts.
  18. The Graham James, Theo Fleury, and Sheldon Kennedy story reads almost identically to this one. Not much appears to have changed.
  19. I’m guessing it comes from a place of tiresome moral signaling, like “you don’t say, you’re pearl-clutching for karma when this is not at all something new or surprising when it comes to our society or professional sports.” Plus I’m sure it’s tediously Bernsteinian to see everyone follow the expected weepy scripts in reaction to this. edit: plus it’s clear that nobody learned anything from this Beach thing because, well
  20. It’s not apples to apples, but it’s still damning. I’m surprised you’re so dismissive about this mess.
  21. One thing to do it to a peer, another to a person in a position of power over you, even if they're just a video coach.
  22. Will be revealed later tonight, apparently. I think I already know who it is, but either way:
  23. Hard to say. I would imagine the league would love from a PR perspective for him to resign and join the other 2010 no-see-ums in hockey exile, but I doubt he does that. Florida will be heavily pressured to fire him, but Florida as a state has zero qualms about harboring cretinous liars and scumbags, so
