  1. In chapter 15 of why sleeve ads suck: the Padres are wearing their PCL throwbacks tonight with navy blue and red trim, however, the Motorola patch is still brown as ever.
  2. Came here to post the exact same thing. That helmet stripe was perfect to get the flag elements in there but in a subtle way that doesn’t feel gaudy.
  3. I agree with these takes. While I hated a lot about Maryland’s modern branding (flag overkill, how gaudy it was, etc), I liked a lot of other things such as the wordmark and number font, as well as some of the color schemes. Simply going back to the old look feels outdated and makes them look cheap. If Maryland is ready to move past the “in your face” designs and simplify things a bit, they should use the old look as inspiration but start fresh to bring it into the modern era with the new fonts and other touches. With these new throwbacks turned full time uniforms, Maryland looks stuck around 1985 and not in a good way. When they were throwbacks, they were “cool” because they reminded us of a bygone era. They don’t work as well when used in 2023.
  4. So are we expecting this to finally release? Or are they just going to use the gray all season?
  5. Honestly, same for me. Took me a good 3-4 seconds to realize.
  6. The sock leak was absolutely legit. You can see the same state outline of Texas logo with the spur on the player’s pants embroidered near his hip below the belt.
  7. Interesting situation as the Angels had SS Zach Neto make his major league debut on Jackie Robinson day. I think Uni Watch asked the question recently if there was ever a player that played just one game on JRD and never wore his own number. Also, Dodgers in City Connects with white pants.
  8. Yes they were worn twice in the 2020 season. Once against Miss State and then again in the Peach Bowl against Cincinnati. They also wore a 1980 white throwback with red pants in the season opener against Arkansas (40th anniversary of the 1980 championship team). Both were special uniforms only for the 2020 season and hence why they have since reverted back to their standard uniform designs.
  9. FSU looks absolutely perfect now. Never change, Noles. They took all of the best parts of the old set and gave it the more simple 1990s and 2000s application. My only complaint is I don’t love how the pattern stops due to the collar but that’s a Nike complaint not a Florida State complaint. Looks like they still have the white helmet in the rotation. The article mentions they have two jerseys (garnet, white), three pants (garnet, gold, white), and two helmets (gold, white). Wouldn’t be surprise if they eventually get black, too. Looks like the facemask may be chrome now. Edit - here’s a look in natural lighting.
  10. Their uniforms look like catalog teamwear to me. You can tell with the smaller swoosh and collarbone seams that aren’t on the big team’s jerseys. Georgia’s spring game is this afternoon and it should give us our first on field look at the black jersey after switching to block numbers. They did not wear it last year. I will be curious if the black ever makes it into an official game. They’ve had an interesting history with black. After wearing it a few times in the late 2000s, they finally brought it back in 2016 with the Flywire collar (without actual Flywire). Georgia updated to the Vapor Untouchable template in 2017 and had black jerseys on that template for six seasons through 2022. However, that version of the black jersey never made it into an official game. Georgia released a commemorative black jersey to celebrate 100 years of having the Bulldog as a mascot and that version of the jersey is what was worn instead. It featured solid white block numbers, a spike collar, and logos on the sleeves instead of numbers. As a Georgia guy, I hope we actually see the new block numbers in an official game this year. If you want to get technical, last year’s version with the Vapor Untouchable and block numbers will also be an entire template generation of black jerseys that will never have seen the field as the Bulldogs are switching to the Vapor Fusion this year. However, I expect in the spring game we will see the Vapor Untouchable template.
  11. I don’t recall seeing any hints, but the only thing I can think of that would make me say “of course” about the helmets would be a yellow facemask to represent the beak. But that doesn’t seem to align with the rumored new colors. Otherwise, I’ve got nothing.
  12. Padres to wear PCL throwbacks in a few days. https://www.mlb.com/press-release/press-release-padres-to-wear-pacific-coast-league-uniforms-on-april-17 This would appear to confirm that the 4+1 rule does not apply to one off alternates or throwbacks. The Padres have white and tan pins, brown, camo, plus their City Connect. If this is true, I think this means a club like Atlanta, for example, could wear their true 1974 throwbacks in addition to their regular rotation. My understanding is they just wouldn’t get the full offering of merchandise from suppliers as if it were a permanent uniform and all that comes along with that (Authentic Collection on field and replica jerseys, tees, hoodies, and caps from Nike and New Era, Stance, etc). This tells me the Braves City Connect was essentially a way to milk the throwback money train full time by making it an official uniform.
  13. This is spot on. Compare the shapes of the numbers to the now retired Twins script. I think it’s fine and the design is still great, but odd none the less.
  14. Sounds like you’ve been taken under Nike’s spell with the silly marketing where using weird colors and designs “for the city” is whereas to me, this sounds like a club that knows who they are and how they want to present themselves. They found a loophole in Nike’s marketing program. I’ll take that over some of the other dumpster fires that the City Connect program has given us.
  15. The blue bill on the City Connect batting helmet turned out to be untrue. The on field batting helmet has a white bill, just like the throwbacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just repurposed their throwback helmets and put new decals on them.
  16. Braves creative team discusses the making of the City Connect uniform and the thought process behind them. Clearly an effort by the team to have their standard uniform and retain the classic 1970s throwback vibe that they like to wear. Couple things of note: he mentions this was a three year process. He also makes a comment suggesting these could be like the NBA City jerseys that rotate every few years and they could get to work on the next edition soon. Making their debut tonight.
  17. Could be that Nike doesn’t have them available at retail yet. My understanding is the throwbacks were only recently promoted to full time alternate, and the Rays had to drop gray from their rotation to include them. Previously they had white, gray, navy, and sky blue. I think uniforms that are in your standard rotation get the full offering from manufacturers (Nike, New Era, Stance) as part of the Authentic Collection label. One off throwbacks or alternates (like the Mets black jerseys before they were made a standard alt) aren’t produced at retail. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Devil Rays jerseys available soon now that they are a regular alternate.
  18. All I have so far is video, but I believe the Braves have a change to their Friday reds that I don’t recall seeing last year. The couple players that show their socks are wearing red, instead of navy. These are the only socks that the Braves ever need: They’ve been worn through all eras of Braves history from Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta. Not a fan of the red socks. Edit - finally found some decent pics. It’s not horrible, but navy socks, especially with that stripe, is the Braves to me.
  19. I wasn’t suggesting they add one. My comment was in response to the other poster suggesting there wasn’t enough room to add a contrasting collar on the new template if shoulder numbers were present. He later clarified that they probably don’t have enough room to do all design features currently present (contrasting collar, numbers, stripes, swoosh, and logo), which I agree with.
  20. What do you mean? The Nike swoosh always faces towards the front of the jersey and so is the Panthers logo. That’s the same as the current jersey.
  21. Now make the stripes on the helmet and pants a consistent width from start to finish, instead of tapered (and flared in the case of the helmet), and this set will truly be cooking.
  22. The Buckeyes could easily fit a contrasting collar with the new template, even accounting for the shoulder numbers. With the Panthers, the reality is there’s too much going on with the contrasting collars, shoulder numbers, stripes, Nike swoosh, and logo. Something needs to give. They should drop something to make it fit with the shrinking jersey real estate.
  23. I wish the Panthers would use this opportunity to clean up their pants and helmet stripes. If they could settle on a consistent stripe application across the helmet, jersey, and pant, their set would go up in the rankings. The helmet and pants reek of the mid 90s but would look fantastic if they cleaned them up.
  24. MLB the Show has the Braves City Connects in the game starting this Friday. This is our first look at the batting helmet. It shows a blue bill, just like the cap. That isn’t unusual, but it does deviate from the Braves throwbacks which always had blue bills on the caps but white bills on the helmets. You can see how they were inspired by the bell shaped white panel from the helmet. I’d have preferred a standard white panel cap but it isn’t a deal breaker. There’s a mistake in the video as it shows the cap (as well as the helmet) with “the A.” It looks like that has been fixed based on this photo. The game doesn’t seem to use the bell shaped white panel, though. These little differences make me wonder if the cap originally was intended to use “the A” logo and was changed. We will get our first on field look at them this Saturday, so long as the weather cooperates. Rain is in the forecast.
  25. Braves will wear their City Connects for every Saturday home game. Likely sticking with reds for every Friday home game. Home white for Sunday-Thursday home games. Gray and navy on the road don’t seem to have a set schedule.
