  1. Atlanta United will unveil its new home kit on February 15 at an exhibition cup against Toluca. Here’s to hoping it brings back regular stripes. https://www.atlutd.com/news/deportivo-toluca-atlanta-primary-kit-launch-2023-american-family-insurance-cup
  2. That would be my preferred kit matchup. I haven’t warmed to the Argentinian purple.
  3. I thought about that sock design just like you. Would be much more cohesive. The best option might have been two sky blue stripes like the back of the shirt.
  4. Argentina’s kit with the alternate white shorts looked fine overall but I feel like there are a few minor details that seem inconsistent. Adidas teams have that side and rear hem stripe which is mirrored on the back of the shorts. For reference, all of these teams shown below are wearing alternate shorts used only for color clashes. Adidas still took the time to make sure everything matched. Germany with the flag detail stripe. Spain wore all red whenever they wore the home kit, supposedly at the wishes of the manager. Regardless, the navy blue shorts were definitely intended by adidas as the primary shorts and red was the alternate. They used the same navy blue and yellow trim here. Japan with the all blue alternate shorts with the same red stripe as the shirt. Mexico’s all green alternate shorts with the same red stripe as the shirt. So why do Argentina’s white shorts have a sky blue stripe? The better solution would have been to make the shirt stripe sky blue so it blends in better with the shirt. Also, I feel like the color balance of the socks is off. The shirt and shorts are primarily white and have black adidas stripes. The socks are also white but have a sky blue cuff with white stripes. I can understand them wanting some color balance but at least make the stripes black for some consistency.
  5. Georgia confirms red in the Peach Bowl and also gives us our first look at the CFP swooshes. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl6ztqVvRDv/?igshid=YWJhMjlhZTc= This also answers my question about the Vince Dooley tribute patches. The patches had been worn at both home and on the road since the Tennessee game so I assumed they’d be worn the rest of the season, given his impact on the athletic department. I assumed they’d put bowl patches on the opposite side. Looks like they’ll drop the Dooley patches for the postseason.
  6. The shade of green makes the number difficult to read. The blue swoosh also throws me off because it’s been green on Brazil’s shirts for at least two decades.
  7. Couldn’t imagine they’d change now seeing as they’ve done it every year since the CFP started. I’d imagine we are looking at: Georgia in red/red/silver Ohio State in silver/white/silver presumably with the throwback stripes Michigan could be a toss up but they seem to favor all navy blue in big games TCU is less certain but definitely white jerseys
  8. Pregame TV coverage suggests the US will instead be in all white instead of the blue socks. Edit - confirmed. The FIFA graphic was wrong.
  9. American TV channel Fox has a stupid advertisement for the US vs Netherlands game. Rather than using a photo from the tournament they are paying rights to, they took an old photo of Pulisic (check the side panels and sleeve cuffs) and photoshopped the current uniform on top of it.
  10. If the ad is swapped on the sleeve depending on if it’s a left handed or right handed batter, that inconsistency will drive me absolutely insane.
  11. I agree but I feel like a lot of that has been shaped by FIFA and their regulations around contrasting kits. The US still tends to wear navy shorts when it can (seems like we usually do against Mexico). But when you see teams like Germany wearing all white, Argentina pairing their stripes with white shorts, France winning the final in all navy, you can understand why the US has leaned more towards all white. Just the way the sport is heading. To me, the all white doesn’t feel as egregious as some of these other countries who have to modify their kits. I’m okay with it.
  12. USA vs Netherlands on Saturday morning. What’s the kit matchup? Fully expect Netherlands in orange. Their shade of orange is lighter than usual. Do we get orange vs white or orange versus blue? Gotta say, these US kits are growing on me a bit. The blues seem harmless on the pitch as the pattern isn’t that noticeable. The whites are clean and I like the sleeve stripes. I think if the whites didn’t have the weird blue shape at the bottom of the collar, they wouldn’t get half the hate they did. Of course, a successful tournament like we’ve had helps improve how I view them. Maybe the Nike executive was right when he said that? ***Ducks***
  13. Here’s a cool article about how Georgia partners with a local shop to repair damaged jerseys for sustainability. There are some up close images that show how they restitch rips and fix patches so that the garments last longer and they don’t have to reorder product. https://news.uga.edu/community-threads/?utm_medium=social&utm_content=video_link&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=news_release The local shop, “Community,” has an Instagram page and leaked when black jerseys would be worn in the 2020 season. They put up a story showing the “Together, Equality” patches getting sewn on in the days leading up to the Miss State game. The team didn’t officially announce the black jerseys until an hour or two before kickoff. I check their page every so often for hopes of more black jersey leaks!
  14. Video game related, but I am most interested in how US Soccer agreed with this promotion and how Nike allowed it. You’d think Nike’s sponsorship of the federation would disallow a competing manufacturer from having an affiliation with the team, throwback or not.
  15. I don’t like the matchup in the Civil War. The shades of orange and green don’t compliment each other well and provide enough contrast. Each team’s primary colors are too bright. It would work if one of the schools was wearing black. I feel the way about this game that I did when Georgia and Florida briefly wore home uniforms against each other. I’m color blind and it can be difficult at a quick glance.
  16. I can get down with all of this, except I dislike the M* cap. Wearing that alternate cap on the road and paired with the alternate jersey probably ensures the TC is worn about 1/3 of the time. They need to emphasize the TC cap more. I even like the Twin Cities alternate. The cap has a bit of a vintage vibe.
  17. Couple US notes: Whoever prints the player numbers needs some help because they are pressed much lower than usual and sometimes off center (see Weston McKennie). Hopefully these are just for media purposes and the match kits look better. For comparison, when the team debuted the white and blue kits, the numbers were higher and looked more consistent. I am curious how the US will handle the sleeve patches. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem, but with the stripe, they’ll need to put the patch on top of the stripe or above it. I’m not sure there’s enough room to place them above the stripe without going onto the shoulder, though that would definitely look better. Speaking of patches, there are patches for both dark and light shirts. I believe this is a first for the World Cup. Speaking of the blue kits, I’ve noticed that the men’s socks are tie dyed, while the women’s are plain. ——— Germany debuted their away kit in a friendly the other day (in the standard away shorts if you’re keeping track!). Germany has sent their youth teams to the pitch in a mix of shorts styles (see both gold and white striped black shorts here), so it will be interesting to see if a kit mix up makes it to the big stage in Qatar. ——— Does anyone know where to see the kit assignments for each match? Apparently the info is available somewhere because someone found all of Uruguay’s match kits.
  18. Any time the Saints wear the vibrant and rich gold, it is your reminder that they should have switched to this shade decades ago.
  19. That’s because it’s a fan’s photoshop.
  20. Yeah I’m not sure I would say Austin “knocked it out of the park.” They look great when the player is facing you, but from the back they might as well be another black and white team. Like Brave Bird mentioned, I appreciated Atlanta’s approach to the stripes which was to use red as the base color to create contrast from the shorts.
  21. Another takeaway (in addition to my post above): now that we are seeing these kits on the new adidas World Cup template, I am reminded that authentic MLS kits tend to exist in a weird hybrid between replicas and top of the line match authentics. Adidas always provides MLS clubs with the heat applied stripes (though this new template has moved away from that) and faux stitched plastic crests, but the materials are never the same as the materials used for clubs like Bayern, Real Madrid, or Juve. For comparison, this is what the material looks like on the 2022 World Cup authentics.
  22. My biggest takeaway from this is that I absolutely hate the stacked MLS and Apple TV logos. If that’s a league requirement (and I’m sure it is), it looks horrible. There are now 3 ads on the shirt. This is approaching MLS 1.0 levels when they had ads on the lower back and on the shorts. Also, who applied the sleeve patches for the guy on the right? They aren’t even close to being properly aligned. Compare the stripes to the MLS patch and they’re way off centered.
