  1. Some people are asking me on Twitter if these are an updated version for 2022 with darker shoulder accents; I can confirm that they’re the exact same as last year. The dark lighting in these pics doesn’t reflect off the silver as much, making the shoulder design appear darker.
  2. I said this back when it first leaked, and I’ll say it again: as a Blazers fan, I actually don’t mind losing the sash and kind of like the side panel design as something completely different on the red unis. My biggest gripe is with the pinwheel. I don’t mind it being on the chest in lieu of a wordmark since it is such an iconic mark and proportionally fits well, but it really should be the full-color version instead of monochrome. Especially with the white numbers and NOB’s, it needs the full-color version to tie it all together. Plus, the full-color version would stand out more, which it seems like is what Dame wanted when deciding to use the pinwheel in the first place. All told, though, it’s cool to see that Dame was truly actively involved in the design process and didn’t just go off the rails with the design like I’m sure some players would if given the opportunity.
  3. I personally prefer Y/G/Y, but with their current set the green lids work way better with the green jerseys than the new yellow lids w/ black accents. I have no idea why the GGY has been such a rare look because it absolutely is one of their best. Same can be said for GWY, which somehow hasn’t been worn since like 1971.
  4. After yellow/green/yellow, this is about as good as it gets for the Ducks. Wish they went with green socks, but overall it’s a fantastic look and sure to be one of their best combos (if not the best) of this season. They haven’t worn G/G/Y since the 2013 game vs. Oregon State, and prior to that hadn’t been worn since 2005. The ‘13 combo had dark green helmets, while this version has the more fitting apple green lids. Despite being somewhat of a rare combo for the Ducks, it’s one that’s been worn by some true legends of the program: For those that may not be aware, those pics are of Ahmad Rashad (Bobby Moore at the time), Dan Fouts, Haloti Ngata, and Marcus Mariota.
  5. 2k also has the ad patch white, which thankfully isn’t the case on the real thing. I do agree, though, I definitely prefer the gold numbers over the black on the real version.
  6. The Ducks are going all-white at Wazzu:
  7. They’re very likely gonna go black/orange/black, which is the combo they wore in 2008 when they beat the then-#1 ranked Trojans. If so, it’ll be just the second time for them wearing that combo with their current set (the first being last year against Idaho). Personally, I’m hoping they go black/orange/cream, which they haven’t worn yet with this set. They wore black/orange/white in their 2010 win over USC.
  8. This has been my lone gripe with the Nightmare green color since it debuted back in 2019. In person it generally looks like it’s supposed to look, like a very dark green, but on TV (especially during a day game), it can and often does have a a brownish tint to it. The Ducks had the same issue back when they used to use forest green (Michigan State used to have the same problem), but it’s more pronounced with this darker shade. I’m a big fan of the Nightmare green color, and have been since it debuted, but they need to tweak the fabric swatch to more reliably look like it’s intended to look regardless of lighting conditions. The helmets are pretty consistent in how the color shows in different lighting, but the fabric needs to be a closer match. They also should try and make sure that these are only worn for night games, because that’s when they look the closest to their actual color.
  9. The Ducks script out their weekly uniform combos during the spring or early summer, so this uni was literally picked months before the kickoff time was announced for this game. They very rarely deviate from the combos that are planned out in the off-season. In this case these uniforms may have originally been planned for last week’s game, as they switched the fan color from black to yellow last week due to heat, but my guess is this was the planned combo for this matchup against BYU all along and the fan color was/is irrelevant to the uniform color (as has often been the case in recent years).
  10. That’s the rule in the NBA, but in the NFL it’s basically a free for all.
  11. Colorado is wearing their gray helmets today for the first time since (I believe) 2018:
  12. None of Oregon’s teams use the number font that you’re referring to anymore. As of 2020/21, every single program in the athletic department has converted to the “Mighty Oregon” font that the football team uses. The men’s basketball team was the last holdover, but now all the teams use the same font (with different treatments, though): The men’s basketball team has worn an old white alternate uniform the last two years that still has the old font, but that’s really the only exception.
  13. Utah going all-red for their home opener: Washington State going gray/white/gray at Wisconsin. Smart choice not going with a crimson-heavy combo against the red and white of the Badgers.
  14. Or the white/apple jerseys, so that’s my one complaint as well. Aesthetically, I think it’s an upgrade over the silver wings and they work much better with the yellow jerseys. It is a shame, though, that we likely won’t see the yellow lids with apple green or white jerseys this year.
  15. A lot of my fellow Ducks fans hated those glitter helmets haha (at least that’s the impression I’ve gotten). They definitely weren’t my favorite, and for that matter none of the helmets worn from 2015-16 were. I much prefer the wings, but if they were ever to abandon them again I’d only really care to see the ‘O’ on the sides of the helmets or maybe the full-color Duck logo once or twice a season.
  16. Since the wing painting is part of the shell painting and/or reconditioning process, it saves the effort of having to apply, remove, and reapply decals every time they’re gonna be worn. Every spring or summer the Ducks send their helmets out to be reconditioned, so in general the wing painting is only done once a year. The EQ staff still has to apply the ‘O’ decals, Pac-12 decals, facemasks, etc., of course, but the wings on each shell are permanent (throughout a given season, that is). Essentially the same as Ohio State painting their stripes on their silver helmets instead of having striping tape.
  17. I’m pretty confident the wings are still painted on these. Decals would be a logistical nightmare for the EQ staff with all the different helmet models. I’ll see if I can get more info, though.
  18. The Ducks are going yellow/yellow/black in their home opener on Saturday: This combo has never been worn before in the program’s history, and the yellow helmets have also been updated for 2022 to have black wings instead of silver. Black facemasks are used this time around, but yellow could also be used at some point this year. Love it, I’ve often wondered why they’ve not done this combo since they’ve done almost every other combo featuring black and yellow. I’m also a huge fan of the upgraded yellow helmets, definitely prefer how the black wings look with the yellow jerseys over the silver wings. Only bummer is that I doubt the yellow lids will be worn with their apple green or white/apple jerseys, but purely aesthetically the yellow lids are an upgrade in my mind and work great with the yellow jerseys (and would work great w/ the new nightmare jerseys, too). -Edit: yellow/yellow/black has actually been worn once before by the Ducks, back in 2008 vs. Boise State. That combo featured the infamous “grellow” helmets.
  19. Think they’ll probably have to do the same at Brenford (might even need clash shorts for that one). Could easily see them having issues in cup matches, too.
  20. The play on the field was about as ugly as it gets (though in retrospect that probably should’ve been expected going up against the reigning champs in the 1st game with a new coaching staff), but aesthetically speaking I really did think the Ducks looked quite good in their mono-green with yellow facemasks. I wasn’t completely sold on the yellow masks when the combo was announced, mainly because the fade on the wings goes from yellow to green where they meet the masks, but in action I found myself liking the look more and more. Definitely liked it better than the regular mono-green with green masks that they wore against Oregon State last year. As @oldschoolvikingssaid on the previous page, yellow pants would’ve been better. I’m hoping they wear that combo later this season, preferably with the yellow masks again. I know the shiny elements, shoulder design, etc. aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but to me this entire uniform set is the best the Ducks have had since the Mariota era. I said that on here last year, but it’s worth repeating. Looking forward to next week, the Ducks are asking fans to wear black to their home opener against Eastern Washington. I personally think they’ll debut their new nightmare green jerseys, but I don’t know that. I’ve also heard there have been tweaks to the yellow helmets and wouldn’t be surprised to see those this week.
  21. Yeah, actually doesn’t look too bad. Certainly better than white teamwear socks or a different color altogether. Kind of surprised they don’t have dedicated clash socks for the kit, but not mad about this:
  22. Oregon State going all-black vs. Boise State in blue/white/white: Washington State going classic gray/crimson/gray:
  23. At least there’s a pretty stark light/dark contrast with the two teams’ pants, but the helmets and jerseys will make it really tough on the colorblind front. The yellow helmets would’ve been the way to go IMO.
