  1. Not knowing about the carpet beforehand? That’s fine, I’m sure a lot of people didn’t know about and/or don’t know about still. I just think it’s childish and, to borrow a phrase from you, “thin-skinned” to go back to the same “it’s dumb” rhetoric over and over again even after people like @Digby and @pepis21 have explained its significant and relevance to Portland and why it was an appropriate theme for this year’s City Edition. Same thing as your disdain for the “RipCity” nickname; even after I and several other folks on here explained how it was something that came about and grew naturally, “it’s dumb” was really your only prevailing argument.
  2. Alright then, not for the first time I’ll just say that I think your argument is dumb and incredibly ignorant. Same thing as your disdain for the “RipCity” nickname.
  3. Just wanna say thank you for doing the heavy lifting in this argument @Digby @pepis21, even @Conrad.. I do not have the energy today to do this with @IceCap, especially after already arguing with him about “RipCity” on multiple occasions and getting the same old “it’s dumb” response over and over.
  4. @IceCap did someone from Portland hurt you as a child? Sure seems like it.
  5. There does seem to be a slight mismatch, although I don’t think it’ll be too pronounced in action. Likely the result of different materials and either the carpet pattern (teal background and all) being sublimated onto the black fabric or the teal being a garment dye that’s ever so slightly darker than the teal of the piping and twill.
  6. Blazers’ City Edition officially released: Said it when these first leaked, I’ll say it again: while I’ve never really been a proponent of a PDX carpet uni for the Blazers, if they had to do one this was the right way to do it. A certain segment of fans have been clamoring for PDX carpet jerseys for like a decade now, so they finally get their wish but the pattern is wisely contained within the familiar sash instead of an all-over pattern. It’s not great, but it’s not bad either.
  7. The Ducks are going all-yellow vs. rival Washington, the same combo that they wore against the Huskies in 2018 (last time UW played in Eugene). This is just the 2nd appearance for these new yellow helmets with black wings & masks.
  8. I’ve grown really tired of Boise State’s current set. The black uni is obviously the worst of the bunch, but I just don’t care for the slanted stripes anymore and especially dislike the overemphasis of silver. Doesn’t help that the slanted stripes are one of the most commonly used catalog/Nike Team designs. Can’t tell you how many high schools I’ve seen using it, and even other universities like Bowling Green and Toledo (don’t think Toledo uses it anymore, but they did).
  9. Cal is breaking out new road throwbacks tomorrow at USC and they’re absolutely gorgeous: They’ve worn the blue Joe Roth throwbacks at home vs. whichever one of USC or UCLA they have on the schedule (should see them vs. UCLA in 3 weeks) , but now they have the matching road set that’ll presumably be reserved for their trips to LA from now on. Gonna be an absolutely gorgeous matchup in the Coliseum tomorrow.
  10. I’d expect their upcoming 23/24 primaries to remain pretty black-heavy, especially with their current secondaries being the mint green color. Hopefully there’s as much green as their current primaries, but I’d be surprised if the new ones didn’t at least have black shorts and black shirt backs again.
  11. You must really use some force when dunking your Oreos if the milk ends up looking like that.
  12. Oregon State is finally wearing black/cream/black for Friday’s game at Washington: This is the 4th season for this uni set, but this’ll be the first time they’ve mixed and matched the black and cream uni pieces. Black/white/black is a classic road look for them, so I’m glad they’re finally breaking it out with this set.
  13. The Lakers are wearing their purple uniforms 17 times this year, but only 6 times on the road (5 remaining). We won’t see the purples on the road again until January. They certainly aren’t a “road” uniform anymore because of the current league-wide uniform system. I would absolutely consider them alternates, in fact I’d consider all of the “Statement” uniforms alternates (same with the City unis). I think perhaps a better way to look at it is “Primary” uniforms and “Secondary” uniforms. I’d consider the Association and Icon editions to be the Primary uniforms for all teams, while the Statement, City, Classic, Earned (when they were around) are Secondary uniforms. For the Lakers, an argument could be made that the gold uniforms are their only Primary uniform in practice because of how often they wear them (both by choice & necessity). They’re wearing their gold uniforms 34 times this year, 20 times on the road. I don’t think adding black to the purple uniforms was a good idea, either. I personally would’ve preferred the league stick with the white at home/color on road convention, or at least put a cap on the amount of times a team can wear color at home (Lakers’ gold uniforms obviously wouldn’t count in that figure). The point of my original post was to point out that adding black to the purple unis was very possibly, if not likely, an idea that originated within the organization. If nothing else, they had the power to stop it (just like they could’ve stopped the black “Hollywood Nights” uniforms if they didn’t want them).
  14. The purples are now alternates, that’s not really an arguable statement (see what I did there?). Also, it sure seems like you didn’t read this part of my post: ”I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say that those (Hollywood Nights uni) very likely influenced the decision to add black into the purple threads when unveiling their new uniform set in 2018. You can bet those Hollywood Nights jerseys and the associated merch did pretty good sales numbers because 1) they’re the Lakers and 2) black sells, so the Lakers probably saw an opportunity to further integrate black into their identity by way of the new purple unis in that 2018 update.” With Nike’s Association/Icon/Statement/City designations pushing the purple unis into alternate status, I absolutely think the Lakers saw an opportunity to shoehorn black into the purples since they weren’t going to be the conventional “road” uniform anymore. Again, if the Lakers wanted more of a normal & traditional purple uni, they’d get it. They clearly like the look, they’re now on the 2nd version of the black-accented purple unis (plus they had the Magic Johnson city set, too).
  15. The Cowboys are wearing a mix of pants today. They’re all the white pants with the navy/silver/navy stripe, but some are wearing the old-style dazzle fabric pants with the lace-up fly and some are wearing matte pants on the Nike Vapor Untouchable template. You can see the dazzle fabric pants on Pollard and Ferguson in the first two pics in this tweet, while Dak and CeeDee Lamb have the new matte fabric pants: I believe the matte fabric pants are new for this year, I only remember them having the dazzle fabric white pants the last several years.
  16. We just gonna ignore these??? Blame Nike all you want, but the Lakers signed off on these original BFBS threads (back in ‘13 for the original sleeveless version). Who knows whether that idea originated at Adidas or within the Lakers organization, but it doesn’t come to fruition without the Lakers ultimately signing off. I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say that those very likely influenced the decision to add black into the purple threads when unveiling their new uniform set in 2018. You can bet those Hollywood Nights jerseys and the associated merch did pretty good sales numbers because 1) they’re the Lakers and 2) black sells, so the Lakers probably saw an opportunity to further integrate black into their identity by way of the new purple unis in that 2018 update. If there’s something to blame Nike for (even then the league had to approve it), it’s forcing the Association/Icon/Statement/City designations and getting rid of the white at home/color on road. That pushed the Lakers’ purple unis into alternate status, which likely made the traditional purples seem more dispensable in the Lakers’ eyes. If they wanted more of a traditional purple uni, or at least one without black, they’d get it. It’s clearly something they like, especially seeing as this new one is the 2nd iteration of the purple/black Statement unis.
  17. The Ducks are going with their classic green/white/green combo at Cal, which pairs pretty much perfectly with the special-edition cleats: This combo has been worn in each of the last three seasons, so figured we’d see it at some point this year. Will contrast really well with whatever Cal decides to wear. Last year the Ducks wore green socks with this combo, so I’m glad it looks like they’ll be wearing the superior white socks this time around.
  18. I’ve never really liked the Patriots’ red facemasks, always thought they looked out of place and stuck out in a bad way. It was especially pronounced for me with their old set with how little red there was on the jerseys and pants, but it’s still bugged me a little bit even with their current uniforms. With the official introduction of these new gray pants, though, dare I say that I finally like the red masks because of the red-heavy pant striping. Two gray/silver uniform elements with what I’d consider to be a pretty similar color balance between the gray, red, and navy. I’m sure they’ll stick with the navy pants on the road (and probably continue wearing them at home from time to time), but these gray pants are all they need and do absolute wonders for the uniform set as a whole.
  19. The volt is what makes the uniform and ties it all together IMO. Makes it look more like an “Oregon” uniform rather than just a black and pink scheme or even a black/pink/silver scheme like they did in 2014.. The pink & volt is a complementary color scheme (or at least very close to it), and a color scheme that Nike has used time and time again specifically on different Air Max models. From what I’ve seen, Oregon fans have pretty much universally applauded these. That’s become increasingly rare over the years, especially with special alternate uniforms.
  20. From photos and videos I’ve seen, it seemed like only a few players were wearing the new gray pants during training camp while most were still wearing the old gray pants (plus it was only the defense wearing gray pants, anyways) . They may well have a select number of pairs, but again that doesn’t mean they have all of the necessary inventory (~100 pairs when you consider all of the extra pairs needed). Who knows, maybe they’ll break ‘em out at some point but if not, it’s very possible that there are logistical hurdles at play.
  21. Just because they have them on a mannequin(s) doesn’t mean that they have a full roster’s worth of inventory (plus considerable extras) in the EQ room. They may well be something that the team plans to actually wear at some point, but it’s very possible they don’t physically have the inventory right now for one reason or another.
  22. Oregon State is actually pairing the Retro Benny lids with their orange unis:
  23. Retro Benny is great, but I hate how they’ve gone with the monochrome version on the helmets the last couple of times instead of the far superior full-color version: As for the uniforms, I don’t think they’ll mix and match much at all as long as Jonathan Smith is the head coach. It’s a shame, really, because there are some really great combos that could be worn with their current set. I actually hope they stick with the cream whenever they update uniforms again.
