  1. I would expect them to keep their current kits through next year. The next Copa America is in 2024, so there will definitely be new kits in time for that.
  2. As a Timbers fan, I can’t help but agree. That said, I’ll be happy to see the Sounders pump out another ugly kit. Basically a tradition at this point. IMO Seattle’s most successful away/third kits have featured a variation of green and/or blue. Their inaugural blue away kits, the 2013 cascade shale kits with the green/blue vertical stripe, the 2015 “pitch black” kits with neon shorts & socks, the 2016 navy/cyan third kit, and their 2017 “Heritage” white kits were all pretty good.
  3. Since I made that post, the 3-star jerseys have actually been put up for preorder on soccer.com and worldsoccershop.com. They have the three stars placed in a triangle, just like what the players were wearing after the trophy presentation. There are also a few other pieces of the Adidas winners collection that have the three stars placed in a triangle above the crest as well: The same was true for the USWNT in both 2015 and 2019. In 2015, the 3-star jerseys released after the WC triumph had the stars placed in a triangle. In 2019, the 4-star jerseys released after the WC had the fourth star placed above the other three (also rendered in gold): In both cases, the stars were placed horizontally above the crest when new kit sets were unveiled. I would expect Argentina to play with the triangle of stars until they get new kits altogether (likely in 2024).
  4. That gold winners badge just looks right nestled within the sky blue stripe: To be expected, they’ve placed the 3rd star above the previous two stars to form a triangle. Customary to place the new star above the other star(s), and also allows Adidas to more easily produce shirts with the third star (no word yet on when those will be released at retail). Eventually I would expect the three stars to be placed horizontally above the crest.
  5. Possible leak of the new Galaxy secondary shirt: Certainly looks legit, as it’s on the correct template and has the new Adidas logo. Quality looks legit for a replica, too. If it is indeed legit, it’s a pretty solid effort. Really clever incorporating the LA flag into the collar like that, and I like them keeping the teal around instead of reverting back to navy for the secondary kit. I do think this could’ve used some black accents somewhere like the ‘96 kit.
  6. More like three steps forward and two steps back. The mono-green isn’t good, but it’s still far better than their mono-black or white over black combos.
  7. I’ll have to see better pictures, but it almost looks like those numbers have a shiny finish like what Oregon and TCU uses. The sheen is especially evident on the two #20 jerseys.
  8. In FIFA competitions, none of the kit elements (shirt, shorts, socks) can match the corresponding element of the other team. Keeper kits are included in that as well. I think it’d be totally fine if France wore the tricolor against Argentina’s all-white, but FIFA doesn’t allow that sort of thing to happen.
  9. Everything I’ve seen has suggested that Argentina asked to wear the white shorts, leaving France with the choice between all-navy or navy/navy/red. They chose the former. A rare case where the teams are to blame instead of FIFA.
  10. The Ducks have essentially had four seasons(!) of exclusive use of this template, having debuted it prior to the 2019 season. A few NFL players tested it in games in 2020, and I know some Ohio State players did the same in practice around the same time. I do think the plan was for Nike to have their elite programs (and the NFL, too) switch over to it for the 2020 or 2021 seasons, but the pandemic and continued supply chain issues almost surely prevented it from coming to fruition. As for the B1G patch not being level with the swoosh, I’m assuming they couldn’t make it level because of the entire logo being sewn directly into the fabric as opposed to a solid patch that’s just sewn around the perimeter. The Ducks (with their current jerseys) have been able to apply rubberized Pac-12 patches directly over the top of the ‘V’ shaped seam on the chest: Nike also used a slightly different version of this template for Oregon’s “Ohana” jerseys in 2020, with a horizontal seam across the chest instead of the sharp ‘V’ shape. You can see again that the Ducks applied the Pac-12 patch (which was embroidered, not rubberized back then) over the top of the seam: Nike also used the horizontal seam on the jerseys that DK Metcalf and a few other Seahawks players tested in 2020: Feel like the horizontal seam would’ve been better for Ohio State as it would’ve allowed them to get the B1G patch closer to level with the swoosh. One last thing: this template has recently been made available on Nike’s team uniform site, meaning it’ll be a catalog option for smaller colleges and high schools. They even have a version with shoulder stripes (which has the horizontal seam on the chest rather than the ‘V’ shaped seam), so you can get a good idea of what schools like UCLA, LSU, and Ole Miss could look like with this template. https://niketeam.nike.com/en/en_US/nts/sport/mens/football
  11. Argentina is the designated home team, so they had first choice as to what they wanted to wear. When they chose white shorts, it essentially forced France into the navy shorts. Now I suppose the sock choice could be superstitious for France, as they easily could’ve worn red socks instead of navy (navy/navy/red was actually the combo shown in Nike’s initial release of the kit).
  12. Well, this is disappointing. The final will be stripes/white/white vs. mono-navy: I wonder if this is a superstitious move by Argentina; they’ve won the last two games in this look and also won last summer’s Copa America final in this look. In any case, it’ll be a disappointing end to what has generally been a pretty good World Cup in terms of kit matchups. Croatia/Morocco will be the same matchup as their group stage meeting, as expected.
  13. The Rose Bowl doesn’t have a presenting sponsor for the game this year, which is why this change was made. The rose looks great isolated like that, though. Better savor it this year in the event that they add a new presenting sponsor in time for the 2024 (‘23 season) game.
  14. With La Albiceleste and Les Bleus advancing to Sunday’s final, I think it’s most likely that we’ll get the same kit matchup as the 2018 Round of 16: Both countries have superior kits this time around IMO, so it should be an even better looking matchup than it was four years ago. Argentina are the home side, so theoretically they could choose to go with black socks or stick with the mono-white look from the past two rounds. I think they’ll go back to the black shorts, though, and my guess would be white socks since that’s what they wore in the group stage against Mexico’s tricolor. The 3rd place match between Croatia and Morocco will be a rematch from the group stage, and I think the kit matchup will be the same as the first meeting:
  15. Gold trim feels like a logical and appropriate addition for the WNT seeing as they’re two-time reigning WC champs. I suspect they’d keep the names and numbers navy (or at least I’d hope), but gold for the Nike swoosh, stars, and other small accents could work very well. I hope it’s not as simplistic as the French MNT’s current kit; with a white base it’ll at least need contrasting collar and/or cuff trim IMO.
  16. They even allowed red socks vs. red shorts in the France/Poland Round of 16 matchup:
  17. As expected, Argentina will be in their home kit with white shorts and socks tomorrow vs. Croatia: Should mean that Croatia will be in all-navy. They do have light blue socks for their away kit as well, but the navy are the default option and would contrast more anyways. Edit- Here are the kit matchups for both semifinals: All-white vs. all-navy for Argentina/Croatia. Navy/white/red vs. red/green/white for France/Morocco. Genuinely surprised Morocco is in red, but I do think it makes for the best possible matchup between the two countries.
  18. I suppose it’s possible, but they’d have to voluntarily elect to do so since they’re the designated home team. Seems unlikely, but you never know.
  19. I’m not sure what world you’re living in, but in this world there’s no way Puma is outclassing Adidas for this tournament. I wouldn’t say they’re outclassing Nike either, mainly because of how inexplicably terrible their away kit range is (again). Their home kits are all pretty good to great, so I will give you that. That said, all of their current kits (regardless of how good or bad the designs are) suffer from the same problem: cheap looking & feeling materials. They’re supposedly the lightest football shirts ever, but the appearance and feel of the fabric pales in comparison to the beautifully textured Nike and Adidas shirts this time around. As for Nike, the cut of the template is bad. No other way to put it. Saying that is like beating a dead horse at this point. Even still, they managed to produce some really solid efforts and IMO still have a leg up on the competition when it comes to the appearance and feel of the fabric. From a design sense, the England away, both of the France kits, both South Korea kits (especially the away), the Aussie home kit, Croatia away (starting to really like their home kit as well), and the Portugal away are all really nice looks. I’d even put the Brazil home kit in there as well, though their whole range is polarizing with the brighter shades of yellow and green. Their away kit isn’t my favorite, but I do appreciate that they kept the jaguar print relatively restrained and that the look as a whole is entirely different from past cycles. The US kits are bad, and again so is Nike’s current template, but I think it’s naive to act like what Nike came up with for this tournament is all bad.
  20. I think the red could work, but I do think it’s more likely that they wear white. I’m hoping they wear the green home shorts, would improve the look of their away kit considerably and would contrast France’s navy/white/red nicely.
  21. Group stage finish and points have no bearing on home/away designations at this stage. Again (as I’ve said twice already) Croatia was the home team vs. Brazil yesterday despite finishing 2nd in their group and having one less group stage point than Group G winners Brazil. It seems like home/away at this stage in the tournament is solely decided by positioning in the bracket. Look at the picture of the bracket I posted above; the top team in each matchup has been the home team so far.
  22. I do think you’re right that that’s how they determine the home/away teams for Round of 16 matches, but I don’t think it’s true beyond that. It actually looks like the home team is determined by the positioning in the bracket following the Round of 16 matches. The top team has been the home team in every knockout round game so far, including Croatia vs. Brazil despite Croatia having finished 2nd in their group while Brazil had finished 1st in theirs. If true, then Argentina will be the home team vs. Croatia and the winner of England/France will be the home team vs. the winner of Morocco/Portugal.
  23. I don’t think that’s how FIFA determines home/away at this point in the tournament. For example, Croatia was the home team against Brazil despite finishing 2nd in their group while Brazil had finished 1st in theirs. I think it may just be a random draw or coin flip at this point. That said, white/white/white vs. navy/navy/navy is my preferred kit matchup as well.
  24. It seems like Adidas chose to match the white shorts and socks to the black shorts and socks instead of making sure they were cohesive with the shirt on their own. The black shorts have the sky blue stripe, which makes sense IMO and provides a pop of blue to what are otherwise just black shorts with white stripes. The black socks have that same pop of sky blue and white adidas stripes, just like the shorts. The black shorts and socks both have pretty much ideal color balance IMO and make for a really cohesive kit combo overall: The white shorts are literally just a color swap of the black shorts, probably because they wanted to add a touch of blue somewhere. I think they would’ve been better off just making the stripe black on the white shorts to match the shirt. I happen to like the black stripe on the shirt since it matches the collar and shirt cuffs, so I personally wouldn’t have been in favor of making that detail blue. My ideal solution on the socks would’ve been to move the blue down to the calf like the 2014 socks (except obviously just the one shade of blue this time instead of two shades):
  25. I think it’s a fantastic detail, especially with the gold sun emblem on the back neck between the stripes to mimic the flag. Actually one my favorite individual design elements on any of the kits for this tournament.
