  1. Definitely. Such a good mix between modern and their city's historical look.
  2. Awesome Not sure why it's not embedding. http://twitter.com/REDBLACKS/status/1555658174828609536
  3. Way back when, the NFL had a lot of preseason games outside the US and teams that participated got an extra preseason game. This was also a time when a lot of NFL teams played in baseball stadiums and preseason games would be at neutral sites or nearby college venues.
  4. Not giving up the two extra weeks of the regular season. If they ever get a tenth team I could see them going round Robin home and away against all 9 other teams. But still would split the playoffs east and west.
  5. Hooker, Oklahoma uses it as well. But not for the helmet.
  6. Next year doesn't matter much. Only one more or three more sites while XFL starts up. Rumor is XFL wants to go back to Orlando. So TB would be open for usfl. And several rumors about San Diego. Also Houston doesn't matter because usfl won't be playing in Houston next year most likely.
  7. In all honesty, they demolished the entire old stadium and built brand new. It's just they renamed the old Stadium in its final season to Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, then spent a year tearing down the old Stadium and building a new one slightly closer to the school. Then gave the new stadium the same name they gave the previous stadium had in its final year. It would be like saying FirstEnergy Stadium is the old Municipal Stadium.
  8. This week and Week 10 are at legion. Not as great a location and now that summer is here, an afternoon game in Birmingham in June is not going to be a fun three hours for anyone. This is the big problem with the hub city plan. South if better for the first few weeks, but not the end. At least the playoffs are going to be in Ohio.
  9. It's strange, that in the early 90s, English games were so difficult to even get info about, let alone watch on TV, that I found myself liking Nottingham Forest. And then almost immediately relegated and never back in the top flight my entire adult life. Until next season. Now I'll be able to watch a ton of their games easily.
  10. Surprised we hadn't heard more leaks from those involved with the host city stadiums. Surely contracts have been signed and some preliminary planning has happened with venues actually hosting games with suppliers, concessions, etc. That someone would know. Unless the guesses outside San Antonio and Orlando are all rather boring. 5 main teams returning to their home stadiums, 3 relocating to obvious better situations. Only Houston as a conflict with the USFL because they had such a great turnout in 2020, that it makes the competition with Houston in football mad Texas an easy gamble. No pun intended. Las Vegas is a bit of a surprise as so much is happening with that city now that they're going to have new team fatigue. San Diego makes the most sense to tap into that anti-NFL backlash that St. Louis had done so enthusiastically. I could see SD going all in with the XFL team if they got one.
  11. Oh they did. But looked like a visitor in their own stadium. They should've been red white and blue to account for the three big universities in that area. Would've fit in at Rice-Eccles (painted field or not) with a bit of red.
  12. Cole Murphy with a. 60 yard FG to end the first half for Michigan. He definitely getting looked at for the NFL with that.
  13. https://kslsports.com/487169/corbin-kaufusi-tampa-bay-bandits-usfl-catch/ He lined up outside. Not sure how the announcement he was eligible was made but I've seen it made in other games, including this Breakers v Panthers game tonight.
  14. Orlando seemed like a shoe in last time except the AAF was there and there was not enough time to wait to see what eventually happened. Plus Tampa had the same problem Salt Lake in the AAF had, the colors and team just did not match the stadium they were playing in. TB should've had red SOMEWHERE in the colors.
  15. They were hosting LA, which had some significance as well. I was gonna make the drive over to the game after seeing the first game in Arlington. And then Covid happened.
  16. Only one endzone has seats and is very small. Wouldn't surprise me if they did but I don't see an issue. The problem will be the 400 people there will look horrible since there won't be a single home team. I hope they go free admission and try to pack the place with youth teams, etc. Cause the D3 ncaa title game was held there to a ridiculously small crowd when Mount Union failed to make it.
  17. I doubt they're paying to have workers remove and install them between games. This just makes more sit on the sideline for angle shots and this gives them the usfl logos on plain view from the sky cam and drone shots.
  18. Well, they had been. Though the Breakers receiving game had been fun to watch.
  19. Looks better in photos than on the field. But still the best of the eight team bunch.
  20. At least the games are competitive.
  21. Pittsburgh v. Philadelphia is the best visual matchup. Especially under a bright sun.
  22. No. No, you're sadly mostly right, I'm sure. Cause I can't think of another reason either.
  23. First, football is popular. There's no debate on that. It's a matter of scale. Millions of people watch high school games every weekend in the fall. Yet, you aren't going to get a million people to watch just one high school game. People aren't that interested in watching teams that they're not fans of. Only at the highest levels does 'casual viewing' become a thing. The NFL can have fans tune in for any game because of the 16 every weekend, you're bound to get a good one. Same with the upper echelon of college. Spring football struggles for one overwhelming reason. It's not the same football that you watched. It would be like In-n-Out only selling burgers four months a year, and the rest of the year you just had to a wait. And burger stand after burger stand trying to start up to fill the void. But tastes like shoe leather and only available in 8 cities. You're not going to gain the same fans because it's not the same. What you need to do is adjust your economics to subsist on what you do get. And the last two spring leagues pre-covid that tried, both tried fans in stands as the core driver to grow their leagues. The XFL 2001, and AAF. They failed because travel is expensive. TV crews moving from city to city. Increased number of stadiums to man, staff, etc. USFL is trying to cut out the expenses to be financed entirely by TV. For those complaining about attendance... the tickets were $10 for Sunday, and good for all three games. They're not making money on tickets. At all. In fact, they'd probably do better to just have free admission and have a concessions deal to get a split of profits. Would look better for fans, at least. The big change over the past 20 years since XFL 1.0 is that TV ratings are garbage EXCEPT for live events. XFL 1.0 debuted with a 9.5 rating, which was great, but floundered with a 1.6 rating midway through the season. Today, a 1.6 rating would be popping champaign among executives because live broadcasts are so much better than anything that can be watched on delay. And sports is still the one key 'must watch live' events on TV. It's why there's live plays, reality shows, game shows, etc. Because people are hoping to see something unique as it happens. And sports today is made for TV. USFL is trying to capitalize on it. And with no travel, no stadium deals all over, staffing, etc. It's easy to keep costs down and contained and hope to subsist on TV. And THEN once it grows in support, branch out to the host cities. But apparently, too many are going to be hung up on people they don't even know sitting in a stadium of a game they are watching rather than watching the game. Then again, it's why the NFL papered the Super Bowl two years ago so people idiotically thought it was full because somehow it mattered.
  24. Remember that today, live TV pays really well and sports is one of the few things in 2022 that are "must watch live". This is a made for TV league, hence the single site to get started. This is Easter Sunday with an hour delay before kickoff of Game 1. Where you'll see the better crowd if when Birmingham is part of the multi game schedule and not a single game. Also, fans will care because it's football. We've proven through covid that fans will watch a game with no fans. And football is still king in the US.
  25. That may be true but it's $10 for three games and it's general admission for most of the stadium (only by the 50 is premium). So it's a great deal to spend a day. But rain AND Easter definitely limits any walk up sales.
