My gut feeling is that the Big 12 is the next conference to make a move. I think you'll probably see them select Florida State, but who their second choice is is up in the air. It could be Cincy, Clemson, or anyone else.
-
Penn State and Nebraska made sense.
Maryland is a stretch but I can accept it.
Rutgers??? Nothing against Rutgers it just doesn't make sense in the B1G.
Well Maryland and Jersey both at least touch the B10 footprint. West Virginia doesn't even come close to Big 12 country.
-
Uconn could be the target to replace Maryland. If this happens, expect to see the Big 12 make some moves somewhere.

how do i change the thing that says member below my username?
500 posts I believe. Please remember quality, not quantity.

Wait, what's this about Jacksonville being forced to change their logo?
Their original logo was too close to the logo of the Jaguar car company.
I remember them trying two different logos that Jaguar objected to - the full "leaping" jaguar and another logo that kind of cut the cat in half.
Probably a modification of this one:

I was Google'ing around and I found a Minnesota Wild prototype I've never seen before:
edit: just found this icethetics entry with another prototype.
I believe that was one of multiple options for when the red alternate sweater was originally was released

How do you get a sig on settings it wasn't on mine
You have to have a few more posts I believe. Stick around, enjoy the site, interact, and don't post pad and you'll meet the minimum soon.

I wonder if the remnants of the Big East FB schools and ACC form a conference and the Big East non-football schools merge with some of the A10 schools to make a powerhouse basketball-only conference. Of course the leftover schools become basically irrelevant.
So theoretically, a Big East/ACC football merger could be:
North
Boston College
Pitt
Syracuse
Rutgers
Uconn
Temple
Cincinnati
Louisville
South
Miami
Wake Forest
Georgia Tech
South Fla
Cent Fla
SMU
Houston
Memphis
If this were the case, I see Boise and SDSU retracting to Mount West again.

I think the A's should sue the Giants for the right to move to San Jose.
If nothing happens on the side of MLB and/or the Giants, the A's could very well try this tactic.

I can see FSU moving to the Big 12 but Clemson will chicken out and stay in the ACC.
My gut says that if anyone goes Big 12 with FSU, it's Louisville. They've pretty much told the Big East they're out if a better deal comes around.
-
As the fan of a Big East school in Florida, my best case scenario is for FSU to bolt to the B12 and open a spot for South Florida to replace FSU in the ACC. Pretty much both conferences are similar on a competitive level, but the ACC is far more stable.

New rumors coming out about Florida State and Clemson to the Big XII
-
If anything happens, it'll start as a 4 team playoff. After that, I am sure they'll judge it as time passes and decide whether expansion is necessary.
-
I think of Colby Rasmus as a Cardinal before a Blue Jay.

Just curious. Would Temple be the type of school the ACC would take in?
No, as long as Notre Dame is there for the taking.
Yes, but how realistic is Notre Dame, unless they are forced to join a conference?
Temple to Big East probably wont happen as well, not just because the BE booted them years ago, but because Villanova will band allies against it.
-
Apparently WVU is about to be able to leave the Big East next season. That means the Big East will have 7 teams next year and, should everyone stay put for at least another year without the ACC getting their duo...
.....we're getting Syracuse-Rutgers twice next season
I have a feeling the Big East will elevate someone to move into the conference for 2012. Most likely not Boise, but maybe Memphis.
-
Semi-on topic, but looks like we could see 7 wins become the minimum for bowl eligibility.
-
If I'm the basketball schools in the Big East, I'm either trying to force the football conference to call itself something besides the Big East to maintain what little dignity the conference has left, or starting a movement with the other hoops schools to break away and form our own conference even if it means moving the tournament away from MSG for a few years (I say a few years because how long would MSG want to host a tournament that featured South Florida and SMU rather than Georgetown, Villanova and St. John's?)
I'm really hoping that this addition is a start towards a succession of the BE football schools to form a new conference.
-
BTW, Props to Air Force for telling the Big East to go to hell. Go Falcons Go.
Well, at least for now. Tank's link still quotes the commish as wanting to have a 12-team conference. My guess is that this move came first, and that when Cuse, Pitt, and WVU leave then 2 more will be added.

Finally...
Boise State, 4 others to join Big East in 2013
Football Only
Boise State
San Diego State
All Sports
Central Florida
Houston
SMU

You could split the Virginia/North Carolina region so that both divisions have 2 NC teams and 1 Virginia team. VA Tech needs to be in the Atlantic to balance the power teams. Duke/Wake and UNC/NC State are interchangeable, but I see UNC/Duke as a better division rival.
ACC Atlantic (North)
Boston College
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Duke
North Carolina
ACC Coastal (South)
Virginia
Wake Forest
NC State
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami
Duke would be the northern most team in NC, but Wake would be better tradition wise.
True, but in reality, the four NC schools are relatively in the same area of the state. It's not like they're that spread out.

BCS proposes ony handling Nat'll Championship Game
Interesting news to say the least.
Also from the link:
According to those who were involved in the meetings, this was just one of several format ideas discussed by the 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick. A pure playoff model was presented, as was the familiar Plus-One model. There also were discussions that centered on keeping the core of the BCS system, but with additional tweaks. One such tweak would be to simply eliminate AQ status.
Another idea called for the seeding of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the national championship game, and then creating an at-large and conference champion seeding. The BCS bowls, in a predetermined order, would then have the opportunity to choose a team based on traditional conference tie-ins (SEC and Sugar Bowl, for example) or go outside of those tie-ins. A second round of picks would allow the bowls to fill their remaining openings.
Another possibility, if not likelihood: the BCS running the championship game itself, rather than piggybacking with an existing BCS bowl. This season, the Sugar Bowl will oversee both its bowl and the BCS Championship.

Oddly uneven sports divisions are the dumbest idea I have ever heard....end of story.
