  1. Those black stripes on the new Tampa helmets don't bother me too much. Mainly because I would probably never had noticed them if they weren't pointed out to me. It looks like natural shading to me. Sure it's pointless, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it is hurting anything.

Me too...after they were pointed out I still had trouble picking it out. I get not liking that feature (and I am not a huge fan either) but to call that feature worse than Jacksonville...not me.
I think it's something you won't notice for most of the game, but then you'll see an angle where they look horrible.

I went to training camp last Sunday and the stripes are only easy to spot when viewed from above, or if a guy is holding his helmet by the mask.

  2. UCF AAC and Fiesta Bowl Championship ring.

    BlL-pt7IcAABAPp.jpg

wonder why they put American champion on top instead of fiesta bowl champion

Because its a conference championship ring, the Fiesta Bowl was just part of that season as denoted on the side panel.

Oh ok so their getting another ring for the Fiesta bowl then?

Im pretty sure the ring represents the whole seasons successes rather than just one event.

  3. Tampa Bay is a viable baseball market, its just that the population center is closer to the Tampa side of the bay rather that St Pete. Use the following photos as an example:

    stpete_medium.png

    Tampafinal-2_medium.png

The red circle is a 5 mile radius and blue circle is 10 miles. As you can see, nearly half of the population within a five mile radius of the Trop (St Pete) breathes through gills while most of population within ten miles does the same. As for the Tampa map, it now includes much more landmass than the Trop location allows for and gets the stadium close to major area traffic arteries such as I-75, I-275, the Crosstown Expressway, as well as US-92.

Also another point of information is the generations of fandoms from other areas who cannot give up their other teams. People like me (I'm 28) are the older end of the diehard majority of Rays fans, as we were early teens when Tampa Bay got the team. As kids grow up, they keep their teams so over time the Rays fans who began as kids become the diehard adult fans with the 25-30 crowd being the beginning of that movement.

    Vladimir Guerrero

Unrelated, but until you've posted that, I've never seen the Blue Jays' logo in 2D stitching (the big club used the 3D puff patch embroidery). I much prefer what Toronto uses now.

That has to be Vlad in Florida on his way up to the big club. I know he had a few starts for Single A Dunedin and I have a feeling thats their home uni.
  5. On Facebook a local community by me has a Garage Sale site. Great site for buying/selling stuff. A person is selling "Authentic" jerseys on there for $100 each. Each jersey is in plastic so it is hard to tell how authentic they are, I'm wondering if anyone on here can tell? Someone called them out on is saying they can get the exact same ones from China and the seller got upset. My guess is they are fakes???

Fielder looks sketchy, as the font looks off and the MLB patch on the collar is too squared off in the corners. Normally its slightly rounded.

Kobe's number font looks narrow too.

  6. So if the "new Big East" is supposed to be a basketball only conference with the Catholic 7 (plus potential newcomers). What happens to the other athletic programs at those schools that formerly participated in the old Big East? Will the Catholic 7 have to find new conference homes for all their other sports?

It's not basketball-only. The Olympic Sports will be in this league too.

Correct, the Catholic 7 Big East will now be a top-tier non-football conference along the lines of the Atlantic 10 and host all sports but football. The former Big East football schools will keep the slot of the BE conference for football, but all other sports will fall under the umbrella of the America 12/Metro/Whatever Name we come about with Conference.

  7. Hey, former Big East schools....bring back the Metro Conference! Most of your current teams fit the bill of being in decent metropolitan areas.

Are you referring to the football schools, or the Catholic 7(+2)? The Metro name would be more appropriate for the football schools, since a lot of them (Lousiville, Cincy, Memphis, South Florida, Tulane) are former Metro members.

Im talking about the football schools. The BE has always been a b-ball conference, so I don't mind the BE name sticking with the b-ball schools.

Metro Conference works well for the remaining football schools in the following locales:

    Tampa

    Orlando

    Dallas

    Houston

    Cincinnati

    Hartford

    Philadelphia

    Memphis

    New Orleans

  8. I will also add I have never bought a bootleg of anything, and I never will. But Nike needs to understand they can't put out 100 dollr garbage and have people buy it.

    Saw this in another thread:

    OTL about counterfeit jerseys

Great piece and some good points. I owned a sporting apparel store from 1994 until 2001. I haven't purchased and NFL jersey since then. The NFL can complain all they want, but expecting people to spend 100 bucks on a flimsy cheaply made screen printed jersey is ridicoulous.

$100 would be fine for an authentic jersey. They want $300 for the authentic though... that's insane.

When I owned my store the price for an authentic was $119.99.

Yeah and replicas were around 45ish, right?
