If the FCC approves the Disney/Fox merger, these would be the names of the new ESPN regional networks:

    ESPN Arizona

    ESPN Carolinas

    ESPN Detroit

    ESPN Florida

    ESPN Indiana

    ESPN Kansas City

    ESPN Midwest

    ESPN New Orleans

    ESPN New York

    ESPN North

    ESPN Ohio

    ESPN Oklahoma

    ESPN San Diego

    ESPN South

    ESPN Southeast

    ESPN Southwest

    ESPN SportsTime Ohio

    ESPN Sun

    ESPN Tennessee

    ESPN West and Prime Ticket

    ESPN Wisconsin

I doubt the YES Network name changes...that brand has good value.

Would Boston and Philly just get lumped in with New York

Boston and Philly have their own regional networks (NESN and CSN Philly) that arent affiliated with the current Fox Sports umbrella...

Melnyk is such an ass. The arena location is a problem (and he has a point about moving downtown to where people can't accept tickets as gifts), but with the absurd TV deal they have with TSN, I have trouble believing they struggle.

Cant accept tickets as gifts?  Is that something to do with it being the national capital?

  3. Also, below is the rules from the NFL

    http://www.nfl.com/flexible-schedules

    Quote

    NFL Flexible Scheduling 101

    • Begins Sunday of Week 5
    • In effect during Weeks 5-17
    • Up to 2 games may be flexed into Sunday Night between Weeks 5-10
    • Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
    • The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
    • The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
    • No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
    • The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:25 p.m. ET.
    • Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
    • The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
    • Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
    • NFL schedules all games.
    • Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.

So in other words, you likely wont see many flexes between weeks 5-10 since you can only flip two times, and you dont want to chance it one week when down the road you might have a few intriguing games.

Three teams may appear in a prime-time game on ESPN, NBC or NFL Network a maximum of six times. No team can be on NBC more than four times between Week 1-16.

Starting with Week 11, CBS and Fox can protect one game from flex scheduling in five of the following six weeks. No games can be protected in Week 17.

I don't get it. What's the point of being able to flex marquee matchups into the Sunday night slot if they never do it? NBC has flexed ZERO games so far this season. At this point it's pointless for them to even have the rule where they can starting flexing in Week 5 because they will never ever change a game that early in the season. I am honestly shocked that they're not putting the Eagles and Rams in a primetime slot. I'd even settle for the Vikings at Panthers. But nobody, and I mean nobody, wants to watch a boring Ravens-Steelers game that will surely be a blowout. Even Ravens fans are bored of watching Joe Flacco.

CBS and Fox get rights to protect some games, so NBC gets the option to flex after CBS and Fox choose their options.

Its not as easy as letting NBC get first dibs (although that might not be a terrible idea for the later portion of the season.

I typically follow http://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/predicting-nfl-flex-schedule-rest-2017-season.html to see what they think might happen.

  5. So I have a question for everyone to ponder.

With Annapolis and South Bend hosting outdoor games in the near future, what non NHL city locations would you like to see host an outdoor game?  Might as well add places that you'd like to see host PERIOD.

    My thoughts:

    - West Point:  Since Navy has one in 2018, hosting one at West Point could work well.  Could be the Islanders or Devils hosting, maybe even Philly.

    - Tropicana Field:  Being a former home of the Lightning, a Stadium Series game in the old stomping grounds against the Flyers would bring back the nostalgia.  It's not the sexy venue, but it like playing in the old barn.

    - Ohio Stadium:  With Columbus on the rise, a Winter Classic or Stadium Series at tOSU would be interesting.  Pair them up with the Red Wings and play up the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry and you should have success.

Penguins vs Flyers in a Pennsylvania football stadium....

We did this literally LAST SEASON. Don't even bother making new jerseys.

My thought is that they're doing on in Philly because the first one that ended up in Pittsburgh was intended to be a neutral site in State College.  I guess this give them a home and home series to be fair.

  7. I have to side with @raysox that the first true generation of Rays fans is in the age range of 30-35.  I for one am 32, and was 13 when the Rays began play.  Been a fan ever since the beginning, but when the core group of Rays fans is in their early thirties, theyre just beginning families which will continue to grow.

The Lightning are 5 years older than the Rays and are just now beginning to hit their strides.

I-95 between Jupiter and West Palm is the longest ten-mile drive in the world. I don't get it. It's not that the traffic is always unbearable (but southbound at rush hour sure is), there's just some space-time distortion that makes going to Jupiter feel like going to the planet Jupiter.

Yeah being from Tampa, and only ever going to Miami proper twice....half the drive is going from Tampa to Palm Beach county and the other half is the rest of the drive to Miami.

I don't think a new stadium will fix the rays problem at all. Based on what happend in Miami, I don't believe a new stadium will always solve attendance problems. I feel like a possible market other than Montreal on the upswing currently would be Sacramento; nice metro area, only the kings to compete with, and a stadium that could be expanded to MLB standards if needed. However i view this as an alternate option to the A's stadium fiasco, because 3 NorCal teams might be pushing it.

Miami is a bad measuring stick because while the Marlins got a brand new stadium, it's location still hinders it much like Tropicana Field and the Rays.

The population (and money) in the Miami area is a little bit north in Broward County so if Marlins Park was built a little further north and optimized it's location that may have helped overall.

  10. Update to Rays news, the ownership says

“We have sites in mind, and it’s a question of what will get done around the site and how are they going to get paid for,” he said. “And once municipalities are able to line those things up, not completely buttoned up but at least to a good extent, then we’ll be able to make a decision.”

Sternberg said they were hoping to have a decision by the end of the season, but the end of the year may be more likely.

Now that you mention San Antonio, I wonder if anybody's floated around the idea of renovating Freeman Coliseum, putting back the ice plant (or improving it if it's still there) and getting it to AHL specs so that the Rampage won't be as reliant on the Spurs' home dates for their own (and also that their place won't look so empty on game days despite their underrated fanbase)

Might be tough since I believe the Spurs own the hockey club.

It looks like we'll have another new logo for minor league hockey in Columbus, Ga., starting in 2018-19.

This article makes it seem as though this is the same franchise as the Cottonmouths but that the now former owners do not wish to give up the branding.

This being the former owners who had legal issues with their logo or something like that?
