  1. It seems to have happened to me sometimes that my edit will be "rejected" for not having a reason (the text next to the reason box will be in red), but if I keep trying, it will go through without a reason. It's not really required. I think it's only happened in phone, so I'm not 100% positive whether it was the boards or a poor data signal.
  2. Since the boards seem to have lost the quirk of bumping polls every time someone votes (even if they don't post), how about letting polls out of their little cage?
  3. I like the 1967 leaf, but I think of it more as the best logo Canada ever had than one of the best logos the Leafs ever had. If they're going to go modern, though, that would be the way to do it.
  4. Startupleague-itis. The same woman is the league commissioner, owner of all four teams, and GM of just one of the teams. It's like being your own grandmother. She can pretty much do whatever she wants. At least they pay the players.
  5. tl;dr: The NHL didn't invest in an ounce of prevention, and they laid the pound of cure on real thick.
  6. Was there an ignore feature before? I've been really wanting one lately; this could be worth the update by itself!
  7. I think it will come in handy during NFL/NHL playoff games, or other similar live events that a lot of board members will be watching.
  8. this is a great question Edit: I found an actual 1999 regular season game photo. I also found out that they met in '96, '99, '03 in that order, which seemingly makes the above picture impossible. Im confused. http://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/14/sports/pro-football-jets-can-make-the-call-turf-or-grass.html
  9. An infinite ERA isn't really infinite; it's undefined (can't divide by zero). If somebody has an infinite ERA in one game and makes another appearance where they record an out, the math fixes itself.
  10. So did the Panthers ditch their policy of no free or reduced price tickets? Edit: That average is gonna come tumblin' down, based on the look of the TV broadcast tonight.
  11. Something I struggled with was the idea that the bag was planted by a "good Samaritan" blowing the whistle on tampering going on back at the station. Did this strike anyone else as a leap? Because it was presented here in town as the obvious conclusion at first. My first reaction was that it was meant to intimidate the family, that we know who you are and we know where you live and we got to your evidence and there's no telling how far our tentacles reach. Wouldn't someone with good intentions just tell the family something's up instead of staging something that looks menacing? Then it turned out it was just the mom being crazy. It was presented as the lead theory because the attorney representing the alleged victim went out of his way during that Wednesday presser to state that it was their belief the bag was planted by a Good Samaritan. I don't know what circles you heard or read "obviously, it was a Good Samaritan" in and nothing else, but what I heard and read certainly did not dismiss the idea of it as intimidation. Also, CS85: I can say with a minimum of 90% certainty that Dan Bernstein is not making any hiring decisions at The Score. "Get me a woman in the update booth so I can save some face after I went all boobs-crazy" is not how that hire was made. Perhaps the craziest thing about that first press conference with the accuser's attorney was he said he had never considered whether or not it could be a hoax. Sounds like he takes things at face value; must not be good at cross-examination. I don't know how widely this is known, but the Buffalo News reports that when the nurse found out the girl changed her shirt, she gave the mother a paper bag with the official sticker on it to get the shirt from the incident. That's where the bag came from.
  12. They didn't. The police released a statement shortly after the initial paper bag press conference stating that the chain of custody of the evidence was, in their words, unassailable. The media and certain social media posters just chose to ignore that because it gets in the way of them condemning Kane no matter the result of the case. If the evidence doesn't fit your narrative, just ignore it!There's a difference between saying, "We got it; it's all good" and "That's wacky... the rape kits don't even go in bags!" The second is more helpful.
  13. Apparently, rape kits in Erie County never go into paper bags; they go into cardboard boxes. Why in the hell did they let everybody freak out for two days before letting that slip?
  14. Kane's attorney is friends with two local radio hosts. When Kane's in the clear, he'll probably show up on there. Should be a good interview.
  15. The main thing that I took away from the press conference was that the bag had lots of info on it, down to the initials of the nurse, that should make it hard to fabricate. The attorney claims the bag was authenticated with the hospital that did the examination. Only so many people have access to even blank bags and the info and to fill it out in just the right way? And what cop is going to throw away his sweet pension to help out Pat Kane? I just don't get it. I didn't get it before today, but now I get even less.
  16. And you would be right, sir. The press conference was replayed on the radio while I was driving home... the attorney seems really sure the bag is authentic. I dunno. He represented a real sleazeball in his last high-profile case with some questionable tactics, so I wouldn't put a hoax beneath him as a way to permanently cast doubt on however the case plays out from here. Even still, this is a bit much. Everyone they interview on the news-- former DA, defense attorneys, retired cop-- all say the same thing: "If this is true, this is crazy." Edit: Pat Kane's not the only thing that ever happened here! Air conditioning was invented in Buffalo, dontchaknow?
  17. I think Kane's driver worked for the Buffalo police, and this would have been handled by Erie County and the town of Hamburg. I'm sure he could have friends who would have done something, but I'm not sure he could have messed with anything himself. If the rape kit is sitting sealed in an evidence locker... how did it get tested?
  18. The path this case has taken is basically the hardest to feel good about as a fan, and it also sucks for the Blackhawks. There's this thing hanging out there, all ethereal-like, but there's no charges, no grand jury... nothing really. I believe all that's been said officially is that it's under investigation. I think the most likely end for all of this is he pays her, she refuses to testify, and everyone signs twelve NDAs. It feels icky, but I don't blame them for turning a blind eye for the time being. Honestly, I'm done looking to my sports leagues for justice. If there aren't even any charges brought, the anger should be directed towards the legal system, not the Blackhawks or the NHL.
  19. "It’s easy to understand the tepid interest. After six consecutive playoff DNQs, the Canes are a diminishing asset on the local sports scene. The team ranked 29th in attendance in the NHL last season with an average of just 12,594, down nearly 3,000 from 2013-14 and ahead only of Florida. " Naturally, my interest was piqued that not only was Arizona not last in attendance last year, there weren't even second last! This led me to look up the attendance for the whole league. These are the only teams below 16,000 per game: Columbus 15,511 Islanders 15,334 New Jersey 15,189 Winnipeg 15,037 Arizona 13,345 Carolina 12,594 Florida 11,265 Only three franchises with serious attendance issues... actually not too shabby! Time to add another.
  20. Does anyone else have this problem? When I view the boards on iOS on Safari, my avatar gets swapped out for another image. When I had drunk Pat Kane, it turned into a cartoon shark. Now I have Spaceship Earth, and it turns into a MLB.com Shop ad. It appears normally on Chrome for Windows and iOS. Edit: Annnnnnd it's gone.
  21. 100% of the 122 teams in the four major sports leagues have played in at least one other city. Nobody plays all their games at home! College football is trying...
