  1. Prior to the current uniforms, which are just plain boring, I thought all the Predators' designs from their inception through 2017 were solid, but just missing something to put them over the top (the 2007-2011 designs were the weakest of the three since they were full Reebok Edge template, but they weren't bad imo). What that is, I don't know. I think they were always close to figuring it out before stripping away all of the uniforms' personality in 2017.

Think this was the first true :censored: up that they made (yellow helmets):

The Predators issue isn't the use of gold at home, that was a brilliant move that has really helped their brand stand out.  It's ridiculously bland jerseys, with nondescript, minimalist striping.  Time has shown that maybe getting rid of silver entirely wasn't the best idea either.  Still, they are very close to a great design and in my opinion, the solution lies between these two designs...  Surely there's the potential for the perfect Predators jersey there.

I agree that the Preds' minimalist design is the main issue here, but I'll reiterate that I don't like yellow as a jersey color because it doesn't work as a light jersey or a dark jersey. Wear it against white, the game looks too light. Wear it against a color jersey, the game looks too dark.

I'm not sure you know what money laundering is.

Also, they're keeping payroll down for tax purposes.  They're still paying the cash every year, it's just that his share goes into escrow.  It only helps them sign players because of the tax break (though we don't know how much that actually is) not because they have all that extra money to give to other players.

I mention the money laundering part mostly because the most infamous deferred contract ever involved copious money laundering. Excuse me if it's stupid to find OVER 97 PERCENT of the contract deferred to be extremely fishy.

That aside, I don't think the Dodgers should be allowed to defer that amount of money to have more available payroll to sign more players. You want to sign Ohtani to that ridiculous contract, you should have to deal with the consequences of spending that much on one player -- if that means you can't afford other expensive free agent, so be it.

Slightly disagree. The Dolphins' current shade of of aqua is absolute perfection.

I like the slightly darker shade of the throwbacks. That along with old helmet >>> new helmet, old number font >>> new number font, and old stripes >>> new sleeve logo, means that I strongly prefer the throwbacks. I wouldn't say there's something "wrong" with the current look, it's a perfectly good uniform, it just has no chance when being compared to those throwbacks.

  5. This still seems horrible for the sport that these teams can just give out massive contracts and then just not pay it for a decade to keep the payroll down. It really smells of money laundering, and with this amount of money being involved, I don't think there rational arguments otherwise.

Just because it can happen doesn't mean it should happen.

So in this scenario, you’d have the Cowboys beating the 49ers.  In San Francisco.  In the playoffs.  While coached by Mike McCarthy.

    Ummm …

Maybe this is just pessimism from a jaded sports fan, but I can absolutely see Dallas winning that game in the right circumstances. I think they'd come into that game pissed off knowing how the last two seasons ended, and how the Niners were the only team to make Dak look truly mortal this season. I still have confidence in the Niners against anybody, but no game in the NFL is ever a guarantee (besides Joe Namath), especially in the playoffs.

I understand wanting KC-GB on the best, but I did specify early in the season that just because teams have traditional uniforms, it doesn’t mean they’ll make it on either  list. I’m just not a huge fan of KC’s all white either. I’m also not a fan of Green Bay’s duds, but I do like them more than Pittsburgh’s.

For Browns-Rams, I would’ve like to have seen Cleveland in orange pants and LA in yellow pants. Not a bad look from either team, but definitely middle of the pack.

The Seahawks green helps a bunch, FWIW.

Wild Card is essentially “one overall change could be made to make a ‘meh’ matchup better”

It’s absolutely fair to disagree on this one. I knew I’d catch some worthy flack. It’s a tall task to take over these lists.

Yeah I think this is just a case of simply having differing opinions. I think the Packers have one of the best uniforms in football, and I loved how it looked against the Chiefs in white on white, sorta throwing back to Super Bowl I.

For Rams/Browns being in my top three, that was more a product of this not being that great-looking of a week. A lot of mono-looks out there, which for me means automatic consideration for the "worst" list. I do absolutely think that Rams/Browns fits in your definition of wild card: Rams in yellow pants would have made this an elite matchup.

  8. No offense dude, you went 0 for 3 on the best matchups. There's no way mono-blue and mono-burgundy are part of two of the best matchups of the week. In fact, that Commanders uniform is one of the ugliest I've seen (it's still miles better than the BFBS alternate, but that's not saying much).

    I'd personally choose

    1. Chiefs/Packers

    spacer.png

    2. Chargers/Patriots

    spacer.png

    3. Browns/Rams

    You nailed the three worst.

HM? I'd put Cowboys/Seahawks. They're both good looks, but together it just creates a blue and silver overload. You penalized Packers/Steelers for not having enough contrast earlier this season, Cowboys/Seahawks are in the same boat.

I don't even know how the wild card spot works so I won't comment on that.

I enjoy your weekly lists, I just completely disagree with this one. Thanks for keeping it up!

  9. The most infuriating part is all the baseball reporters on Twitter claiming that this is "good for the game" that the Dodgers pay billions of dollars for a superteam. It ruins the integrity of the sport.

As my soccer fan friend said, I didn't know the Saudis got into baseball.

I love the Predators home yellow-gold uniforms. Much unlike that nauseating Dijon mustard they wore in the mid 2000's.

Yellow and yellow-gold(Athletic gold) should be used as a light base like white. I agree, I was ever was a fan of yellow vs white in any sport...hockey, basketball, soccer. However, with the right colour scheme including a complementary dark colour like black, navy blue, forest green, burgundy and purple, yellow as a light primary can look amazing. Loved the Canucks-Flames uniform matchups at the Pacific Coliseum during the 80's. Like the Bulls-Lakers matchups in LA.🔴🟡 Even black vs yellow looks awesome.⚫🟡

Yeah, this is more about my dislike for color vs color than anything. I do wonder if the Preds home jersey would still be yellow if the NHL went light-colors-at-home and they'd introduce a corresponding navy jersey.

Ironically, getting the #2 is better than getting #1, where to get to the SB, they'd have to beat both Dallas and SF, which we just saw ain't going to happen, no matter how "right enough" they can get themselves.

I think that the number 1 seed is always the goal though -- guaranteeing a first-round bye and a home-field NFC Championship game is a huge advantage. A bye week right before the most important football games of the season is the best "get right" opportunity that a football team can get. The 49ers were limping into their bye week in the midst of a three-game losing streak, but came out of the bye looking refreshed and rejuvenated, embarking on an active five-game win streak.

The problem with this theory is that he has played 24 games for the Niners in the 1.5 seasons since the trade as compared to only 16 in the 2.5 seasons with the Panthers prior. I don't care how much you get the ball, your body is taking more of a beating playing every week than being on the sideline 75% of the time.

If you wanted to argue that it was all a cumulative effect from his 2019 year, that would make more sense although it wouldn't explain why this magically went away with the 49ers.

Honestly, I think the reason is simple. Players are more likely to play through an injury or discomfort if their team is in contention. The Panthers never were, so the slightest thing put him on the sideline repeatedly. The 49ers are in contention, so he's most likely playing through similar things.

Also, the 49ers use him a ton too. Much more than most teams use their RB.

You do have a point -- a lot of it could simply be morale. He seems to love it in San Francisco, he's fit perfectly in our offense. And he's somewhere where his contributions are meaningful -- he's on a legit Super Bowl contender, rather than a team gunning for first overall in the draft.

There was nothing wrong with yellow-gold as the home uniform. Added variety to light-coloured uniforms and created colour vs colour. The problems were the V yokes, the thick striping, how the Skate logo itself was screwed up by having a yellow background behind the yellow CANUCKS wordmark and by missing one of the white streaking lines and most of all, the constant losing.

Yellow is such a weird uniform color to me. I don't really like it as a light or a dark uniform color. I think that Nashville's current home yellow doesn't contrast well enough against any road team in white jerseys, and I've never been a fan of color vs color in any sport. But no argument from me that the design of that yellow Canucks uniform's design was lacking.
