  1. From what I've seen, one of the biggest arguments in favor of color helmets on the road is balancing the pants color with the helmet color. With that in mind, the colored helmets are not necessary for teams with shoulder yokes that match the pants color. Those teams should never wear colored helmets. They include:

Allowing teams to wear colored helmets on the road is a huge win. "It's always been done that way" is almost never a good reason to keep doing something. I mean just look at the difference between these two looks-

I mean the copycat Rangers script still stinks, but what was really generic before instantly becomes much more interesting and balanced. Of course some teams will look better with the traditional white helmets, and I imagine that those wont experiment too much even after this ruling, but I feel good that it will greatly benefit a lot of teams with dull road looks.

Sorry. Don't see it. Still looks bush league to me.

No.  As of right now, every team only has a set 80 games schedule.  On Dec 4 & 5, the quarterfinals are played in the two cities with the best round robin record.  Those count as game 81.  The losers will then play game 82 against the team in the same conference as them in Dec 8.  For the winners of the quarterfinals, they play game 82 in the semi finals on Dec. 7.  The two teams that play in the finals play game 83, that does not count towards the regular season.  All the teams that didn't make it past the round robin, will play two games Dec 6 and 8 based on how they finished in the round round standings and some other info.  So, there is no "shaving" of games.

This is actually ridiculous. They should've made it its own separate thing, like how the FA Cup doesn't count toward Premier League standings. If it's just a regular season game, no one's going to care that much extra about it. The only special aspect of the game is getting to play on a horrendously ugly court.

I don't watch the NBA, so I haven't really been following along with this, but I can imagine that the fan reaction to this isn't too positive, either.

If it appeals to Kyler Murray, then he needs to just play in the NBA then. Those unappealing monotone garbage needs to stop too.

Don't even get me started on the NBA. Can't even tell which team is which. Every team shoehorning black into their color scheme because 🔥. The dumpster fire that is the in-season tournament courts. The fact that these teams continue to wear their horrible alternates deep into the playoffs. I don't even watch the NBA and it sickens me. The NBA's aesthetics are beyond saving.

It was apparently replaced by the throwback since it's being worn 3 times this season. I get the feeling the Brown color rush wasn't liked by the team because ever since introducing it in 2020 it's been worn a whopping total of two times and 2021 didn't even have it.

Good. The rare mono-color combo that the players don't consider to be 🔥🔥🔥🔥

  6. I always found white uniforms more interesting than color uniforms because you need to put more design into a white uniform: On a colored jersey, the color base can often carry the design, but with a white jersey, it's not that simple. That's the reason why there are teams like the Rangers, Flames, or Sabres that don't need shoulder yokes on the home jersey, but their road whites have them.

The Rangers jersey is actually the best example of this -- the blue jersey is beautiful, but objectively it isn't that interesting of a design. The blue color is what draws attention to this jersey.

But with the white jersey, you can't just copy/paste the same design from the blue and call it a day, there really wouldn't be much to that jersey. Part of this is rectified by the space between the stripes on the sleeves and hem. One of the most iconic shoulder yokes in hockey ties everything together. It's my favorite jersey in sports.

I'm fine either way with whatever color teams wear at home, but every NHL game should feature at least one team wearing white. Because they're often designed better than their darker-colored counterparts.

Why does it not "work" for hockey?

I cannot understand this overwhelming desire to maintain the status quo of quite possibly the most boring uniform in all of professional sports - the NHL road.

The NHL is just extremely traditional in its aesthetics. I mean, look at the playoff uniform rules and the near complete absence of color vs color (we also usually get only about couple dozen or so white-at home games per season across the entire league, and those are usually just showcasing special uniforms). Any amount of change is going to be met with resistance, that's just how it is.

  8. White facemasks would be great. But what they really need to do is shed the final remaining vestige of the previous era (if they haven't already). They wore this uniform last year and I have no idea if they're supposed to this year:

  9. A lot of it probably has to do with the team who's leading the charge in making this a trend. The Hurricanes have consistently made baffling decisions for no apparent reason for several years now, and their decision to wear red helmets last season (and into the playoffs) ruffled a lot of feathers (mine included). I don't think the backlash would be as strong if a different team started doing it first.

As others have mentioned, this isn't the first time there's been colored helmets with a white jersey. It's done all the time for outdoor or specialty games, as well as one-off games like when the Avalanche did it in their inaugural season

    spacer.png

Also, Mario Lemieux started his career wearing a yellow helmet with the Penguins' white jerseys (the only triple mismatch I could think of in NHL history)

there's gonna be some very upset people in here lol

The Canes trying to be quirky is one thing. An ORIGINAL SIX team should know better. Then again, this is the same team that partnered with Justin Bieber to create a gimmicky reversible BFBS jersey.

  11. What I don't get is why the home uniform is that vintage off-white color. Off-white makes sense for traditional franchises and/or traditional color schemes. It does not make sense with this modern color scheme.

And I appreciate the effort, but "Diamondbacks" looks way too narrow on the red alternate.

Other than that, I like the new uniforms. Was a bit shocked to see the snake-D return.
