I think the problem here is that the Oilers uniform itself is trademarked, as in the colors and striping patterns. The other teams wore NFL based uniforms, but in their school colors (and I am pretty sure Arkansas got permission from Dallas and/or NFL, if I remember correctly). The Rockets don't play football, so it would be harder for the NFL to claim infringement on the grounds that a basketball uniform would create confusion with a football uniform. Ultimately, they have to be very harsh when it comes to infringement as apart of keeping trademark and copyright is continuous defense of those properties, similar to how the NFL and college teams have been cracking down on high schools using recolored logos more recently.

Uniforms cannot be copyrighted or trademarked. Colors cannot be trademarked either, though Nike's been trying to create a version of kelly green that is theirs alone to control. If that were the case  there are a lot of schools in Ohio that would have to change their uniforms because they look too much like the Browns.

Based on the two jerseys being worn, you can't even say they are the same design. The only things that are the same are the closeness of the colors and the template used. The two blues are not even a match as you can see by looking at the helmet stripes. And the pants are obviously not the same.

I think this recent streak of great looking super bowls ties directly to the fact the Patriots dynasty ended. Although allow yourself to imagine this matchup both times they played.

At least the Giants looked better in their Color Rashes than the regular uniforms.  Patriots in silver britches are a good choice, not sure why they insist on wearing blue pants.

Even with the drama of the Glazer's dragging out their non-sale, Manchester United still makes money on top of money. Too bad it won't be with a new owner who actual wants to fix the stadium and the teams.  One piece to note, they dropped salary by 13% due to salaries cut due to not making Champions League the year prior. It's also noted that Man City and Liverpool will be expected to beat these numbers.

The only people who cry "BuT tHe RaTiNgS" are Dodgers and YankSox fans -- and it's got nothing to do with ratings and everything about their team not being there.

As long as the games are good, hopefully we'll see good ratings as well. I think we'll also see if the changes to speeding up the game get more people interested that tuned out previously.

Yeah, this has turned into a pretty big deal.  Hard to imagine the staff or school didn't know when this guy's buying prime seats for huge games on a pretty modest salary.  Somebody had to bankroll it.

Can't imagine Harbaugh is still at Michigan next year.

    https://www.si.com/college/2023/10/25/michigan-connor-stalions-texts-stolen-signals

Does any TV broadcast that you know of even show hand signals on the sidelines? They may see at most four sets of hand signals. You then have to decipher what happened on the play and if the LB or QB changed the play or coverage. And if he's that good, why would he need to go to games?

It did not take Connor Stalions long into the text conversation to start boasting about his connections to the Michigan football team: “I’m close with the whole staff,” he wrote. Particularly, he said, he “became close with CP and Jay Harbs,” apparently referring to current linebackers coach Chris Partridge and running backs and assistant special teams coach Jay Harbaugh, who is the son of head coach Jim Harbaugh.

“Pre-covid, stole opponent signals during the week watching tv copies then flew to the game and stood next to [then Michigan offensive coordinator Josh] Gattis and told him what coverage/pressure he was gettin,” Stalions continued.

And apparently "donating" them to other people. If I'm not going to a game and I'm paying over $100/ticket I'm getting as much money back as I can. Some of those tickets were much more than $100-$500 a pop.

The uniforms were likely already designed prior to the new logo release, so they're rolling with what was already made for them.

So based on that and other info, it seems like a reasonably safe bet to lock in other USFL teams with home sites: Michigan, Memphis, Canton, and Birmingham for now. I think New Orleans also has a reasonably decent chance of working out as well.

Houston should return too, just a matter of its the Gamblers or the Roughnecks. my bet is that the league will "merge" both franchises.

Arlington, DC, St. Louis, and San Antonio all make sense to return from the XFL side as well.

Todd Haley is being reported as not returning, so it's possible Vegas' new staff replaces his.

the scuttlebutt I have read about that is that it will be the Gamblers and that Wade Phillips will be the Head Coach and AJ Smith the OC, as they were with the Roughnecks.

I think this is what we all expect as well. I wonder how many Roughnecks fans will either walk away, or keep wearing the XFL gear? I also like the idea of USFL teams moving over to Under Armour, so that would give them a chance to fix up Memphis or the Maulers so that they don't look as much alike. The Gamblers could borrow a Texas Tech look and update their uniforms as well. Just lighten up the grey pants to the earlier throwbacks.

I didn’t think anything would come of this sign stealing scandal at first but now seeing this guy has bought tickets to 30 games including both sides of the field for OSU/PSU — and not at all discretely — Michigan/Harbaugh may actually be screwed.

    Especially interesting is…

Using electronic devices to steal signals seems like a much bigger offense than the advanced scouting by itself, which was kind of meh.

The amount of UM Twitter that are trying to cope with this is amazing. One UofM talking head said he's given those tickets away to veterans. There are cheaper ways to do that, to be fair. Reportedly there are also photos of Michigan assistants with a card showing Ohio State hand signals from last year's game, on the right hand sign of the picture below. He also, reportedly, bought tickets for both sides of the field for Penn State vs Ohio State last weekend.

I thought it was more that Apple just wanted more games generally, and this (plus expanding the field) is the best way they came up with doing it? Although yeah, I think it's good overall when even low seeds get to host playoff games. This is why I'm still team two-legs until the finals, no away goals, keep the playoff field small enough to make this number of games manageable.

Agreed. I think this setup with a one off wild card and two legs up until the final, ala the EFL playoffs is the best option if you want each team to have at least one home game in the playoffs proper.

I'm fairly new to MLS, but can someone explain the point of having a 3-game series for the "first round" (not wild card) when every other round is a single game?🤨

It was interesting that some players on New England opted for the double red stripe white “socks”. I didn’t mind it. However, it reminded me of the very out of place triple blue striped socks on the last set.

Those socks were the remnants of when adidas created that uniform. I'm surprised it took Nike so long to change the uniforms, even with Brady winning all the time.

  16. The Claymores jerseys truly do remind me of the Patriots template that was actually being used in NFL Europe for a few years.

Remembering when Glasgow had its very own NFL team, the Scottish Claymores - Glasgow Live

I think using something similar to their initial uniforms would work better, and separate them from the templated era of the World League. Obviously with the logo on the sleeves instead of the front of the jersey.
