The new logo is generic. The third is hands down better in execution and it is a far more attractive logo. Portland fans should demand they use this. It's a no brainer. The new logo focuses more on Portland than trying to hamfistedly shove in "Look, it's da feathers of da Blackhawks logo, but is not a Native person is burd so is okey!". The new logo handles it better by making that homage way more subtle. There's hints of it for continuity, but it's not just shoving a headdress' feathers on a other-wise normal bird logo, which would look forced. And I actually like the inclusion of Mt. Hood in the logo, because that explicitly ties the logo as being to a team in Portland, which was kinda the whole point of ditching the old logo on top of the Native imagery aspect; making a primary logo that's Portland's and not Chicago's. The four feathers clearly pay tribute to the Blackhawks logo, but they're done in a way that looks natural. If anything is hamfisted, it's Mt. Hood in the new logo. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy. WarOnMorons
Too cluttered for my taste, as a guy who went to a lot of Winterhawks games when I lived out there. Glad they made the change - not because there was anything wrong with the previous logo - but because it was derivative for no good reason. Gothamite
I love the idea of including Mt. Hood, but the execution is lacking. I wonder if they would have better off incorporating an negative-space outline of the range as the bottom "skirt" feather of the eagle head, like Washington does: The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.

The red outline blends into the red jersey so it has the same effect as the previous red jersey. On the white jersey, the red outline rhymes with the number on the back. It's a style I didn't know I liked until seeing it. On the black jersey, the red outline give the impression of a spaced/triple outline which rhymes with the sleeve/hem striping. It looks nice. Fills roughly the same space and its close in shape.
