St. Louis Cardinals Concept

I like the look of the Cardinals' home uniform with the stripes over the sleeves. I grew up following the Rochester Red Wings who were the Cardinal AAA farm club from 1928-60 and I still love that uniform (had piping on the belt loops, too). The Wings used this style of shirt from 1947-64 when they removed the shoulder and shirt-front striping in favor of just neck and arm stripes.

On your Cards concept leave "Cardinals" on both shirts. It's timeless. And don't use a sleeveless, especially on the road. The navy sleeve idea is fine. When the Wings joined Baltimore in 1961 they kept the Cardinal-style uniforms but changed the sleeves, belt and socks to navy instead of red.

One other suggestion. If you want to go "old school" use the full block pro-style numbers. The Twins use this style today. It's what the Cards wore until they went to the doubleknit pajama look in the '70s.

pcgd, that is the most beautiful baseball uniform I have ever seen.  Simply awesome.

Absolutely agreed, if the Cardinals ever changed to those, they would automatically have the best uni's in baseball, hands down.

i always thought if the cards change unis i will freak out and kill someone, but if they change it to this, id love it. yes, agreed. the most beautiful concept ever :notworthy:

To Patrick Cummings,

The templates you used are the best I've ever seen. Where did you get them? Are they your own design? If so why don't you post them to share.

As far as the Cards concept, I like the gold (yellow) bat. But that's me. I told the boys yesterday that I don't care for the vests, specially on the Redbirds. Changing the piping, sleeves, socks and belt to navy on the road unis is similar to what they did in '56, the year the birds-on-a-bat migrated out of town for that whole season. The current script "Cardinals" and the golden bat were introduced in '57, which also saw the return to all-red accesories. I like the navy change, maybe for an alternate road set.

Also I hate the way guys wear their pants nowadays. They look downright sloppy. MLB should make it mandatory on pant length, similar to the NFL rule. If the socks have stripes, show 'em. Some of the best all-time sock designs are the Cardinals, Red Sox, Indians and Orioles. I want them back! The Houston Colt .45s used to wear a sock of navy, orange and white, similar to the Bosox but with two white stripes in the navy part, then the orange stirrup. They were great.

As far as grey road uniforms I'm strictly "old school." The disco '70s with their technicolor pajamas now seem like ugly clown suits. Grey road suits are still awesome. And the "cream" colored home unis are another throwback to when flannel had that tint.

I totally detest the Yankees, but their '50s throught '69 cream-colored flannels with the light navy pinstripes were top shelf. And they should go back to the plain block pro-style numbers (like the Dodgers use). Also they should go to just a completely plain grey road uniform, no trim and solid navy lettering. I'd still hate them, but at least they would look like the real Yankees.

Again Patrick, great job and love those templates! :D

I like the dark bat on both the home and road jerseys, but I would add the yellow color back to the birds' beaks; the red just doesn't fit. I like having "St. Louis" on the road jerseys; it adds a nice variation to a timeless logo. I also like the red bill on the road cap. I would give the home jersey the cream tint rather than pure white, and I would add the slight blue tint to the road grays (not the 80's road "powder blue"). Finally, drop the player's name on the backs and you would have the classiest jerseys ever!

Great concepts! I think I like the yellow bat a little better - it just adds something. Actually cardinals have reddish beaks so it's not un-natural but they look good with the yellow bats. Maybe I'd like to see the "St. Louis" on only one of the road's as an alternate - probably the vests. The cream and the slight blue are very cool.

Also, what about the socks? You HAVE to keep the stripes! They always look great. (I still miss the stripes on the Red Sox socks even though I like the all red)

I'm just wondering what the road's would look like with a little added white trim around some of the lettering as on the hat.

I love this look and being a lifelong Cardinals fan, can only hope if they change when they move into the new ballpark that they go with a retro based on the 40's uniform, hopefully this one. I wondered though what the road would look liek with 'Saint Louis" in stead of "St.Louis" i just wonder if the full name would look better, but also if a full name would take away from the "S-T-L" hat. I think i actually prefer the black bat, but as with everyone else, this is subjective. Keep the red striped socks they have now for both uniforms, i wish the players would show them more.

KMOX still brings in the fans when i was in the process of moving to Nevada (before coming back) i got the cards games well into Oklahoma, past Ok City. But nice job guys.

I like my women like i like my coffee, tied up in a burlap sack and thrown over the back of a donkey.
