VitaminD Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Judging by the recent flurry of posts about redoing the Rockets, great minds think alike. When the Rockets announced they were dumping the cartoony rocket logo and gawd-awful thick pinstripes look, they could have thrown almost anything up there, and I'd have liked it. And overall, I like the new look - the stripes on the thighs and around the arms look sharp, and the design is generally clean and legible and unique. But I grew up liking the "ketchup and mustard" uniforms of the Sampson & Olajuwon years. So my design is a modest tweak of what they have now. Keeping the present style but reincorporating the gold that they dropped in favor of silver, which I didn't take to.Thanks in advance:- to SyPhi for the template (at least I thought it was SyPhi, I don't see his name on the neck tag - if I am wrong, I am very sorry to whoever rightfully deserves credit);- to AAO for my source picture, which he did for GSM1121's NBA Uniforms Project. Thanks for the great work. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... TFoA Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 You know, I always felt like there was something empty on that uniform, something that was a bit incomplete. Adding yellow to the uni completes it, IMO. If they wanted to go the future-retro route, then I guess that would be the way to go. Good job, sharp
dgnmrwrw Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 all i can see are golden arches. i'm not sure that this color combo works with this particular jersey style. HURRICANES | PANTHERS | WHITE SOX | WOLFPACK

Yeah it does have that Mickey D's All American feel to it Hmm. Good points. It'll be a big lift for Yao and his sponsorship.I'll try and darken up the yellow. I'll try to do it without disturbing the current design, because I really think what they have is sharp. It just needs the old colors back. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... KeeperEUSC Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 All McDonald jokes aside, it's better then their current one.
VitaminD Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 Well, here's take 2:I darkened the yellow to something approximating gold - or at least, making it something besides bright McDonald's yellow. On the roadies, I did a little recoloring. The logo on the hip is now red (not white), with a gold background. And where I had two yellow arcs (or arches, if you must ), the colors are switched, so that there is only one gold arc, separated from the gold space by one red arc. Thanks all for the help; I already had an entry in the MSPaint contest (Mavericks redesign), but I kinda like these too. phayze Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 I'll second the yellow doesn't look to hot on that jersey style.

Doesn't look exactly like the Cavs jersies, but too similar is what I'm saying.
VitaminD Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 The road uniforms do look a little like the Cavs' roadies - mostly because of the shorts, with the trim color covering most of the sides. Good pickup, HBTF.But the gold I used wasn't supposed to be a metallic ("old gold") like Cleveland uses. My intent was to darken the too-bright, McDonald's canary yellow to something closer to what the Pittsburgh Steelers or Pirates use. A darker yellow that is commonly referred to as "gold" when teams list their colors. But not old gold, Vegas gold, or anything that resembles shiny, metallic gold.I also tried to minimize using black except as drop shadow for the numbers. Seeing how much navy the Cavs used in their jerseys, I tried to stick to the original red/gold scheme the Rockets had, and I think there's a lot more gold in my efforts than in the Cavs' uniforms. I also hoped I left enough red on the sides of both the shorts and the jerseys that it didn't look like the side stripe panels the Cavs have on their road sets. And I left the uniform as the red that AAO had used in his original Rockets designs, rather than darken it to approximate the wine color of the Cavs. Thanks all for the C&C. I think I may be stuck - I am really a fan of the present style the Rockets have, but with the old colors. Trying to keep both steers me towards the Golden Arches (can someone say endorsement deal?) if I go one way and if I am not careful, I run the risk of cloning the Cavs, whose new look is nice.Gonna keep pluggin' away at it, and thanks again...
