Eagles DE Jerome McDougle shot in Miami robbery

(Eds: Also moving on sports lines.)

MIAMI (AP) - Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jerome McDougle

is hospitalized after being shot during what police say was a

robbery attempt in Miami, Florida.

Police say it happened late last night when three people

approached McDougle at his car, demanded his wallet and watch, and

then fired several times at him. He was hit once in the stomach.

Police say the gunmen were likely teens. They fled on foot and

remain at large.

The 27-year-old player was airlifted to Jackson Memorial

Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery. A

police detective tells Philadelphia radio station K-Y-W that the

investigator who is with him at the hospital says McDougle is in

good condition.

The Eagles are opening training camp today at Lehigh University

in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Probably some kind of negotiation ploy set up by his agent (Drew Rosenhaus.)

Seriously, hope he is OK. That's one downside of being a high paid athelete. You are a target. Wasn't some guy on the NYG held up at gun point a year or two ago? Over his jewelry if I recall.

Antoine Walker got carjacked near his old neighboorhood in Chicago a summer or two ago.

All the more reason to get to camp on time or earlier. Hope he'll be OK...

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
