FiddySicks
Im just curious, if the Cardinals play the Angels in the World Series (God forbid) do you think the Cardinals will wear the Alt navy blue hats to make it easier to to disinguish between the two teams? And equally important, should they? On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) FiddySicks
Ok, but why shouldnt they then? Im not really saying this so much for the teams but a lot of people who dont normally watch baseball watch the WS and it would make it easier for them to figure out who is who. I would rather them wear their normal unis but isnt this what Alts should be used for? On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) The_Admiral
The Angels wear grey at Busch; both teams would not wear red hats in LA. That will sort it out. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
ZoDogg34
This hat will be worn by the Cardinals for all postseason games at homeThis is only worn for road games. It will never be worn at home under any circumstances. This one is worn on a very limited basis...Regular season Sunday home games...although most of the players have been wearing it for BP this year instead of this oneTony LaRussa, however, still wears the old mesh BP hat from 3 years ago. You only have to watch ONE pitch to figure out who is who, and then the camera angles between pitches will tell you who's in the field and who's at the plate if you're really confused. Think about it - between pitches, there's either a closeup of the pitcher or fielder, or a closeup of the batter, everytime. It's not difficult. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
Cianfrocco
With so few color combinations used by teams, there are bound to be cases where they have similar uniforms. In 1995, the Braves and Indians not only had the same color combo, but Native American nicknames!

Seems setting the bar pretty low, since the whole point of putting each team in a distinctive uniform is making it easy to tell the two teams apart. The hat color would be much less of an issue if road teams still wore gray instead of the pale off-white most teams have moved to. I watched every Phillies game at RFK this season, either in person or on TV, and I can honestly say it was often not easy to tell players apart by team during the action. In a quick glance, or a TV picture of players in motion, the Phillies' road gray wasn't dark enough to show it as different from white, and everyone was wearing a red cap. You had to see letters or numbers for it to be easy to tell the players apart: If the name was an unreadable pink blur, or the numbers looked like refugees from the Carter era, then it was the Phillies. If not, the Nationals. Most sports actually have rules requiring the two teams to wear unambiguously contrasting uniforms. Alternate uniforms are, in principle, a moral abomination, but if teams are going to have them then umpires should have the power to order the teams into alternates to ensure that the two teams wear contrasting uniforms. The solution is for MLB to make teams darken their gray road unis, or adopt non-gray road unis like the Padres or, um, like all that powder blue some teams used to wear. Until then, though, if both teams are in red caps and one team has "alternate" blue caps in their lockers, I want to see the umps order the blue caps on. It would have one of two effects: Either the teams would take the field in clearly distinguishable uniforms, or teams would stop wearing alts. Either way, baseball wins. Gothamite
Even if both teams wear red caps, how often can you really get confused during a baseball game? The guys wearing gloves belong to one team. Michigan Dave
Baseball is probably the only sport where teams can wear close uniforms and not confuse anyone. It's very clear who is in the field, and who is batting. Unlike this game, which I had to turn off because I am colorblind and couldn't tell Illinois from UW. Im not even saying im confused between who is who but I just feel that if two teams wear the same colors but have alts to their disposal, why not wear them? And to tell you honestly, if im watching a game from a distance, or im sitting at a sports bar having dinner and see a sportscenter highlight there are many times where i cant tell if the highlight is a Cards or Angels highlight untill they post the team names because of how similar their unis are. All im saying is if they nhave the ability to make it easier, why not do it? On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
