The New England Forfietted Pick

IIRC there is not much of a dropoff in pay from late 1st round to early 2nd Round.

So....no. Auctioning off the pick would be incredibly dumb.

So the guy who gets picked 32nd gets "first round" money, when not too long ago, that player would have been the 4th player picked in the second round? I would think you get paid based on your overall number. That "first round", "second round" stuff is more for fans to argue about than anything.

Also, what about compensation picks that are between rounds? Would they get the prior-round's "money" or the following?

That only re-enforces the original point. There will be a prospect that should've been picked 31 (the Giants have the 32nd) and by your definetion, should've been paid for being 31. Instead he'll be picked farther down.

He'll get paid for being 31. You are misinterpreting the implications of the forfeited pick. The only reason IIRC folks are pointing out the Patriots' forfeited pick in mock drafts is to prevent the 5000 "Y R TH3R3 ONY 31 1st Round PIX? LOL!" questions.

Pay all rookies an equal, not real high, salary for the first year, and then the team can decide what to pay them, or cut them, after their performance in their rookie year.

They haven't done anything in the NFL yet. Why should they be paid like they have? Make them prove themselves first.

And this should apply to all sports.

(Of course, this will never happen. <_< )

This is one thing the NFL needs to fix, I guess this can be added on to that other thread "fixing the NFL." But no rookie should ever be in the position to be a hold out. First off they haven't proved anything on the NFL field, the nerve of these players demanding 30M in guaranteed money for doing absolutely nothing thus far. The NFL should implement a scale system similar to the NBA. This way it will shut them up for good. AND SHOW UP TO CAMP DAMMIT!!

One would argue that what those players did on the college gridiron would be proof enough of their prowess.

Furthermore, good on them for getting what they can while they can. It'd be stupid not to. An NFL player's career is so short, and if you're not good on the highest level, it's much shorter. The team and the league can clearly afford bad contracts. If holding out gets you x million dollars extra, why wouldn't you do it?

What? The Giants pick will be 31, and then the first pick of the second round would be 32.
