The good news:ESPN reported that Marty Schottenheimer will coach Virginia

However, they also reported that Chattanooga could be home to the 6th franchise this year, coached by Jim Bates. Personally, I want a 6th team, but Chttanooga? Seriously? That's smaller than Omaha.

Too bush league for my tastes.

Although if they moved the Locomotives there the Chattanooga Choo-Choo's would be fun ^_^

If that team was named the Chattnooga Choo-Choos, I would buy all kinds of merch. Someone, please make this happen.

I couldn't agree more. In a way, I hope this league sticks around for a bit, because everything it does makes me laugh.

I like the idea of Minor League football. NFL Europe saved the career of Kurt Warner, whose Hall of Fame career is in the bag instead of stuffing bags at the local A&P.

There's a good debate to be had about how much market size really matters to a league like this.

It's probably a lot easier to spark some excitement and fill a stadium in places like Chattanooga and Omaha, where they're just glad to have a pro team, than in bigger markets like Orlando or San Antonio. (Though, admittedly, that's just an assumption.)

While being in big markets helps in luring a big national TV deal, my guess is the UFL thinks it will remain attractive to second- and third-tier networks regardless because of the perceived nationwide demand for any and all football programming.

And certainly, it sends a better marketing message for the UFL to broadcast games in packed stadiums compared to ones that are mostly empty.

OK, this is the problem. Major league teams or not, Omaha isn't exactly a tiny city, while Chattanooga kind of is. There's a diminishing marginal rate of return here that I think is going to kill the franchise.

Chattanooga would be a disaster. I was thinking Des Moines, but 2 teams in that area might not work.

Schottenheimer was a good hire but now the Destroyers will never win in the playoffs. Oh well, they can enjoy the regular season
