kevinmets
This is something I put together out of boredom/OCD/whatever you wanna call it.I wanted to assign one-word color names to each of these different colors.I ran into one minor problem...Can anyone help give me different names for the shades of dark purple?(Also if there's any strong objections to my other color name labels, I'd consider changing them. But that's not the main reason I started this thread.)
TBGKon
The only shades I question are scarlet (more red, less orange) and khaki (less green, more brown). No idea on what to call them though.
altosax29b
Yeah I'm not sure if the color is off or what but that's definitely not scarlet.

burgundy
Some suggestions for the color names already there:- Replace tawny with citrine- Swap khaki and olive- Scarlet is definitely not that orange, maybe use tomatoPurples:- Use eggplant for dark fuschia- Use byzantium for dark magenta- Use persian for dark indigo- Change plum to iris- Use plum for dark purple
Coast2CoastAM2006
you should definitely check out this site. It's a really good site for reference. My http://r0k.us/graphics/SIHwheel.html Spoilers!
kevinmets
Thanks for the tips. The "scarlet" in the original psd file was a lot redder than it shows up here (as was "rust"). The other shades of orange also look very slightly less red. Everything else looks the same. Interesting.Again like I said, I want one-word names. So "army green" and such are out. I don't think "tyrian" or "palatinate" work as one-worders.The interactive color wheel is great. Still I need one more purple name that isn't two words, or totally weird. (Clairvoyant? Loulou? Come on now.)Here's what I got for the purples now:Burgundy --- CrimsonByzantium -- MagentaEggplant ---- FuschiaGrape ------- Purple???????? --- VioletPlum --------- IrisPersian ------ Indigo

drdougfresh
Khaki is far from green, IMO, and really not even on this color wheel. I'd call what currently is 'khaki' something more like 'drab'. I would also swap rust and mahogany-- it's much darker than rust, and more red. That swap makes sense.
altosax29b
You can also use Clemson's purple for one of the purples, looks like it might fit over Violet. This is from Clemson's website, they call it "regalia".
