habsfannova
NoHoJoe, if you're saying MLB will expand into DC, and the Expos will be in the NL East, where do you see them calling home? Norfolk? San Juan? Surely not Montreal... Just think if the Expos left Montreal, what will be the summer events in the "Big Owe"? Montreal loves-and needs- baseball, and if Bud Selig sells the Expos to somebody who WILL keep the team in Montrealand build a new retractable roff stadium, or retro-fit the Big Owe,like dismantling the old roof that was supposed to be retractable after the Olympic Games and replace it with a real retractable roof, then Montrealers will be happy. Hahaha, yeah, Montreal's gonna put more money into that black hole, sure....
budbowl77
Tampa Bay NEEDS to be contracted (Bad stadium, bad baseball team, bad ownership) and so will a National League Team (Florida if they can't get that stadium deal in Miami). Look for that in 2008 as per the CBA. I hope Tampa does get contracted. Then the Brewers can go back to the AL where they belong. Milwaukee is a National League Town...was home to the Braves for the longest time. Lets contract Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh and let the Expos move to Washington DC. let Montreal move to the American League and MLB will be all set. marlinfan
The sticking point of contention is that the Florida State Legislature, dangling hung chads and all (you knew I had to say that) is refusing to give the Marlins the monies neccessary to help build that ballpark, and if that doesn't come through, well, you can all but see the Marlins swimming with the mobsters. there is a plan B incase and there is a 90% chance the bill will go through next year the problem this year was that the marlins requested the money to late.contract pittsburgh? never happening the bucs are a historic club and they have a new park. all the teams that are being considered for relocation or contraction have stadium problems. 1997 | 2003
OnWis97
The MLBPA will never allow contraction. I think the current collective bargaining agreement prohibits contraction until 2006, but after than MLB can contract and the players' union cannot stop it.
