  1. Two moderators had no issues with the avatars/profile pictures so it’s possible this is a cookie/browser issue.
  2. The changes usually are official for the academic year. LMU changed its identity effective March 1 but the team uniforms, court, etc. will kick in with the start of fall sports.
  3. One of the rare occasions that such a generic, cliché name could be morphed into something pretty brilliant.
  4. Updates! So, essentially: *the arena can be blown up to expand the footprint *the contract with the Grand Prix is up in 2023 and can have the course layout renegotiated *the city sites numerous parking garages in the area that can accommodate fans *the Angels will decide by the end of the year
  5. And I’m presently here listening for the death rattles of Willie Desjardin’s coaching career but that’s for another thread.
  6. I’m sure Oakland would be thrown in. Fitting that they have the white elephant origin of their mascot.
  7. The Twins were included because the owner was sick of the Metrodome and couldn't secure public stadium funding. Q & A from the time.
  8. It’s part of a phased transition. The athletic teams will be getting new uniforms and the basketball court will be repainted for the next academic year. I’ve already received an alumni donation request in the mail with the new logos.
  9. My point is that where the team store is currently has no impact on the concourse size. That area's the widest part of the inner concourse at street level. Going higher and towards the foul poles are where you have issues and the upper deck's design really doesn't give you any options to fix anything.
  10. Read the whole review. The concourse where the team store is behind home plate isn’t the issue. The issue is with the levels above the main level and the closer you get to the foul poles. That, and the outfield is already cramped.
  11. You already have the Promenade the other side of Honda Center on Katella, the Outlets at Orange, the Village at Orange, and the Garden Walk. They don’t need another mall right in the parking lot. This isn’t Glendale. Angel fans can manage just fine without a Johnny Rockets and a Margaritaville.
  12. The property is definitely big enough for a third park. The distance and that a freeway separates it from the other parks significantly complicates that. Not sure if CalTrans would allow a monorail to go over the 5.
  13. California Adventure also made the mistake of blowing off its loyal local customer base. There really wasn’t anything to draw Californians there more than once when all the park did was served as a dumbed down Chamber of Commerce version of the state without any real Disney connection.
  14. The Grand Prix seems to have been slowly declining. The celebrity race was axed a couple years back and Toyota bowed out as the title sponsor after last year’s race. The city getting 81 days of tax revenue vs one weekend might be the final nail in the coffin.
  15. The two square shapes just north of the Arena are parking structures. I could see those being dramatically expanded. I could also see a scenario where they demolish the Arena since they haven’t had a regular tenant since the Ice Dogs and only really schedule Disney on Ice anymore. A wrench is that the outside is painted with a Robert Wyland mural. There’s also two massive parking structures already in the area (5 and 7 stories respectively) less than a half mile west on Shoreline at the Aquarium so those can definitely be utilized. And that’d the same Queen Mary.
  16. The article cites that the land being offered is the parking lot of Long Beach Arena (aka the “Elephant Lot” as it’s where the circus animals were staged before and after shows). And come to think of it a ballpark there would be perfect in terms that you already have a ballpark village in place with the Pike and the plethora of restaurants on Shoreline, you have three luxury hotels within a half mile, and the team would be even closer to the nearest airport (LGB vs SNA)
  17. The Dodgers don’t have a choice. Unlike the Bay Area the market is shared between the Dodgers and the Angels without a dividing line. Traffic-wise, the location is right at the end of the 710 so it’s not too far from freeway access. I’d certainly expect for the capacity to be lowered from the current Angel Stadium number but there definitely won’t be a support issue since Long Beach itself has a population of 450K.
  18. Looks like the original Long Beach idea that Autry nixed may be coming back around.
