  1. Oh yeah that's perfect. Expand to Vegas, of all places. That's not even a lateral move from Phoenix!
  2. Sigh. Yeah. My knee jerk reaction is to say Hey! Osweiler can start! But probably not. Taylor Kelly, on the other hand...
  3. It's such a shame the Bucs had to put the trophy on their rings rather than the helmet logo. That's by far the most disappointing Super Bowl ring I've ever seen. Especially as a Bucs fan.
  4. When did we establish "Warning points", and how do I acquire all of them? What's the limit before suspensions/banishment? What gets you warning points? Do I carry my high school diploma around? What do you do with your hair? What happens if there's inclement weather? Where do you - What do you wear? Can you wash your clothes in the dishwasher?
  5. My experience in Phoenix is that the "city" of Phoeniz (and I use the term loosely) is vacant after the work day, and the only reason anyone is in "downtown" phoenix after dark is if there's a ball game. Would hockey really work there if the audience lives in scottsdale or Tempe? The Valley sucks to get around in since there's next to no transit and it's all highways, and you can't even have a drink at a game then drive home due to their zero tolerance DUI policy.Yeah I think it would work better for downtown even if the audience is in Scottsdale, Tempe, or Mesa (which is where most people in the Phoenix area live) because at least you can catch light rail from Tempe and Mesa to the game. I used to take light rail from where I lived next to the ASU campus in Tempe nearly every day for D Backs games and it was always a smooth and easy way to get downtown, and you don't have to worry about getting a DUI because you can take the Orbit shuttle from the ASU transportation center to any point in Tempe. And downtown isn't as abandoned as (I assume) it once was. There's actually a decent nightlife brewing down there now with the downtown campus. And at least downtown is close to the heart of the metro population. Glendale is still such an outlier that there is absolutely ZERO reason to go out there unless you want to suffer through a Cardinals game or are a homesick Canadian. Have you ever heard the story about Phoenix Trotting Park, the creepy old horse racing track? http://www.sbnation.com/2013/7/11/4514706/phoenix-trotting-park-goodyear-arizona-ghost-racetrack Yeah well, Glendale is actually closer to that than it is to downtown. If that doesn't give people a sense for just how out of the way Glendale is, I don't know what would. They probably still wouldn't lead the league in attendance if they were downtown, obviously. But they wouldn't be hemorrhaging the states cash while playing out in Afghanistan.
  6. I'm sure this has been posted before, as it's two years old. but I just found this article and it far from surprises me. Hockey would've worked SO much better in Phoenix if games were still actually played in Phoenix in a building that they actually fit in. My God, Bettman. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/02/colangelo-back-in-the-day-bettman-told-him-hockey-wouldnt-work-in-the-desert/
  7. Have you ever actually been to the Coliseum, Tank? I see it on TV and it is an eyesore, I heard stories of flooding from backed up sewage that is all I need to know. I will grant you before Mount Davis it was a nice ballpark, but it has now been ruined for two decades the A's deserve better. Yeah, it's really not that bad. It certainly has earned it's reputation, but it's definitely not the smelly Call of Duty map you're making it out to be
  8. totally agree! Even if they stick with the A's, they'd sell more merch with green & gold. The whole logo is a little dated. No way. The RiverCats have AWESOME colors. Burgundy, black, and sand is an awesome color combination and it's unique. They'd look like total ass in green and gold (hence the reason why they've never had those colors), and ditching the burgundy for orange would be a huge disappointment as well. I went to the RiverCats game tonight and noticed that they've made some changes recently that are a pretty big downgrade to their set (adding sleeves and the A's elephant patch to their home jerseys, going all BP style CoolBase, switching from their original primary logo to that weird RC cola style logo, ect). This is the best the RiverCats have ever looked, and they should've never changed away from this look. But with this cap logo.
  9. He still plays?!? exactly what i thoughtVery highly regarded in the clubhouse for the Indians. And a fan favorite. Tito has kept him around because he's embraced a mentoring role. And actually, he played great as a pinch hitter last year, & even saved the Indians playoff hopes vs. the White Sox last year. He's rehabbing a broken rib right now. IIRC, the Rockies were pushing him pretty hard to retire after the 2012 season and take over the team as the manager. He decided to keep playing, and they went with Walt Weiss. Tito calls him his "Manager In Waiting", and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him go straight into a managers role as soon as he retires.
  10. That bacon hat is hysterical. I LOVE how the made the tail on the Pigs script bacon as well.
  11. Still not sure what league they're playing in, or if they'll ever play a game, but the Yuma Desert Ghosts have started trickling out their uniform design starting with their home and away caps. Hmm. That first logo, with some modifications of course, wouldn't be a terrible logo for the Arizona Diamondbacks. But yeah. That second logo looks like a :censored:.
  12. Yeah you REALLY hit us Arizonans on the head.I just fixed his post, because, well, he wasn't THAT far off. We all know he's usually wrong about damn near everything he posts on here, but I'll give him a modicum of credit for accidentally almost blindly backing into a correct observation on this one.
  13. Jerry Krammer left his super bowl I ring in the bathroom on an airplane. He took it off to wash his hands. He recovered the ring many years later when the ring was in an auction. The consigner was a lawyer and was not willing to cooperate so finally, the auction house settled the matter. Jerry got his original ring back and auctioned off the replacement ring and the money went to charity. I believe another super bowl ring was returned to the original owner after he too, took the ring off to wash his hands at a public bathroom. I can't recall who that was. I think I remember a story where Walter Payton lost his Super Bowl ring and recovered it several years later, from the guy who he had JUST sold his couch to. Apparently, it had been in the couch the whole time. Those are the stories that I find hard to believe.
  14. I'll bring the pitchforks and rock salt! But really now, if they're gonna keep these outdoor games, I wanna see them do something really crazy, like Sharks vs Avalanche from Squaw Valley, CA. It'd be risky, but playing a game in a ski resort town that was once the host of the Olympics and has this view? Yeah, I'd watch that.
  15. The Yotes wanna hold an outdoor game at freaking U of Phoenix Stadium? "Hey, we couldn't draw flies if we were horse s**t at home, might as well continue that trend during our "Outdoor" game!" I bet the team is actually afraid to put the game in Sun Devils Stadium (You know, the ACTUAL outdoor stadium that's closer to the majority of Phoenix's population and conveniently located next to public transportation) for fear that it'll just magnify how God d**n stupid it was for them to move out to nowheresville from the middle of the city.
  16. Herff Jones does class rings for a lot of colleges (including most of Arizona State's class rings) as well. Nothing that they've done has shown me anything at all. I'm hoping when I do graduate I can get something through Jostens instead. As much as I love sports team championship rings, I could never see myself dropping that kinda cash on someone else's jewelry. It'd be a gem to own (and I'm certainly not knocking collecting them. Maybe when I'm making a lot of money, I'd do the same!), but it'd be so much nicer to actually earn one. Hell, now that I think about it, that's probably bucket list item #1 for me.
  17. I know that due to problems with the previous franchise they're trying to get away from the Tornadoes, but there was a huge missed opportunity to name the team the Worcester Twisters. The Worcester Tornado was a horrific event that killed 50+ people. While Hurricanes and other natural disasters hit areas across the country, that storm is officially called the "Worcester Tornado", and every time I heard the name, I thought of the storm, not the team. Naming it the Twisters served a couple purposes... 1. Genericizing (made up word?) the nickname removes the reference to the specific storm, thus letting the nickname and team promote its own legacy. 2. Worcester Twisters rhymes! It's catchier and more fan-friendly. I had an email conversation with Dan Simon about that, and he agreed Twisters would have been a better name. But it wasn't up to him for the name. He did design a great identity for them, however. I personally like Freight Trains, but that's because I love trains. The Mighty Caseys, and even The Nine is kinda dumb, if only because it's been done before. There's a California League team (Visalia Oaks, I think?) that change their name for a few games a season to the Mudville Nine to honor that poem, and they absolutely knocked it out of the park in terms of identity.
  18. The worst part of all of this is that it's STILL relatively hard to find cheap Coyotes tickets. This franchise is so dumb.
  19. I dunno about this one. This reminds me of those commercials that basically say that smoking pot is supporting terrorism. Sure, that's maybe true in a very small amount of cases, but it's still an enormous stretch. Except it is true in a lot of cases. The Chinese Triads are heavily involved in apparel counterfeiting. I'm sure that includes sports jerseys. Ok, that's fine. I'm not saying you're wrong, but what's your proof? If you're right then I'll accept that, but until I see some numbers on this, I'm gonna have to remain very skeptical.
