  1. The ones who are against it opposed the stadium and/or didn't vote in the first place...Chihuahuas is the PERFECT name for the team. 1. It's a name that stands out; no other team in the USA is called the Chihuahuas. 2. It's a bilingual name, uniting the English and Spanish-speaking fanbases. 3. The chihuahua was ROYALTY back in its heyday. 4. It's the ULTIMATE underdog (pun intended? You decide)...though it's the smallest breed of dog, it exudes loyalty and courage like the rest of them, and is determined to accomplish whatever's set before it. Sounds like something you'd want 'em to look up to! I'm just praying this doesn't turn out like the New Hampshire Primaries...it was an AWESOME name, with a PERFECT visual package, but a bunch of disgruntled locals didn't like it, so it got changed to the uber-bland FisherCats.
  2. In actual recent news...Eastern Kentucky's considering moving up to FBS (Sun Belt and MAC had been mentioned as possible conferences)
  3. Spending $6 million a year to bring in $1.5 million in revenue? You just got Glendaled, son! And here I thought Arizona was a fiscally conservative state...
  4. I really thought the Missouri Valley would pick UIC instead...with "Chicago" actually being part of the school's name in addition to-when's the last time Loyola even CONTENDED for a postseason spot?
  5. Actually, Saturday is the seventh day. Christians moved the holy day to Sunday because it's the day Jesus rose from the dead. While Christians mainly treat the day with the same respect as the Jewish people do the Sabbath, most also recognize Jesus was chewed out for healing people on the Sabbath day, and replied to the detractors; "If your ox is stuck in a mire on the Sabbath, would you not still pull it out? Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath; the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." So, that's why apparently BYU is unique among the NCAA in absolutely refusing to play on that day.
  6. BYU probably won't get into a major conference until they drop their objection to playing on the Sabbath. ALL college football teams play on the Sabbath (Saturday). BYU's objection is playing on Sunday, which is the "Lord's Day."
  7. Most/all of the Missouri Valley beat writers and some officials are saying no decision has been made yet. I say it's still gonna happen and they're just trying to hush up that speculation until after the tourney's over (one of their teams is in the Final Four, and that's where they want all of the attention focused)
  8. WKU to C-USA is official. Makes you wonder who (if anybody) the Sun Belt will try to get next so they can keep their championship game coming in 2014?
  9. Tulsa joining The Conference Formerly Known as Big East in 2014. So with the rumored "America 12" at 12 in 2015, makes ya wonder who Conference USA will try poaching this time. My guess is Georgia State or Texas State from the Sun Belt (maybe both).
  10. That's right...but then again, NIU will certainly be on some bigger FBS conference's radar now, so that was to provide a different home for the b-ball conference. Moving on now...should they win today (or even with a close loss), I bet FGCU will be on the Sun Belt's radar. I'd think they want to regain the Florida presence they're losing now that FIU and FAU are going to C-USA. The only thing I could see getting in the way is the fact that the Eagles are still only "considering considering" adding football, a decision being "5-10 years away". Still, if UALR and UTA will be non-football members, there's no reason FGCU can't be too.
  11. You know who I'm proposing the MVC adds? Northern Illinois. They certainly fit in the market and could be a gateway for other potential additions (Milwaukee, UIC...Green Bay maybe?). Have them join the Conference Formerly Known as the Big East for football only, and the Missouri Valley for all other sports...
  12. St. Louis is part of Phase II @McMurphyESPN New Big East: "Very happy at 10; whether or not we get to 12 (in future) is negotiable" They always say that...and then they always expand. (Might be a year or two from now, but they do)
  13. Today Butler, Creighton and Xavier made their exodus to the new Big East official. Kinda surprised they went with Creighton over St. Louis, given the Billikens' closer proximity and (well, greater) recent success. Think the Billikens and Dayton are on the horizon for 2014-15 expansion though...
  14. Yes they are...I heard Kennesaw State and/or North Florida might be joining (the Owls are gonna add football soon, the Ospreys are considering it)
  15. Wash U hired this guy after those UNC academic scandals? Ummm....wow. Never has the term "educated fools" been quite as fitting...
  16. Clear your inbox a bit please...wanted to ask you something.

  17. Newest members of the WAC: the UMKC Kangaroos. Tired of being cellar-dwellers in the Summit League, the Roos want an actual shot at the postseason...but in the smallest pond in Division 1.
  18. It's pretty official...San Diego State's staying in the Mountain West too. That means the Mountain West will have 12 teams, two divisions, and a championship game this upcoming season. Here's how I'd arrange the divisions: MOUNTAIN Air Force Colorado State New Mexico UNLV Utah State Wyoming WEST Boise State Fresno State Hawaii Nevada San Diego State San Jose State
  19. Give St. Joe's that spot and this looks pretty good. Thank you...they might also want to get Detroit for the West and one other for the East (St. Bonaventure or Duquesne)
  20. My ideal layout: CATHOLIC AMERICAN CONFERENCE (CAC) East (Neumann Division for men's sports, Cabrini Division for women's) Georgetown Providence Seton Hall St. John's Villanova Insert other East Coast school here (Duquesne/St. Joe's/La Salle/St. Bonaventure) West (Jogues Division for men's sports, Tekawitha Division for women's) Creighton Dayton DePaul Marquette Saint Louis Xavier
  21. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8736716/atlantic-10-open-adding-big-east-basketball-schools-creating-21-team-conference-source If they can't start their own conference, the Atlantic 10 has said it would welcome them with open arms...
