  1. I'm old (as in graduated from high school in 1984). The Detroit Lions old helmet logo, recolored in red, was used from time to time.
  2. This is sort of like the type of hybrid model that I've been advocating for the PLL for a few years now. -- Assign home city/region names to create some local bonds (however limited at first) -- Ease into a model that includes primarily neutral site/touring games and some home games -- Eventually settle into a schedule that leans more toward home games, with continued neutral site games/doubleheaders to continue tapping into other markets In this case, there are only a few markets being used for games at this point. For football, I think the end game should be almost all home/in-market games. The PLL would be fine with perhaps a 60-40 home/neutral split since lacrosse hasn't saturated the overall market the way football has for decades.
  3. Even better. I think the white Terps logo on the helmet makes a big difference in legibility.
  4. I'm a little late on this. but just read back through the thread after being tagged in the Univ. of Baltimore concept. These two caught my eye because you happened to post -- back-to-back -- the colleges that my kids attend. I like them both very much. My only nitpicks are (1) I think the black Terps logo looks a little dark on the red helmet and (2) I believe using Maryland instead of Terrapins would work better for the jersey wordmark, particularly since there is already a Terps logo on the helmet. As for the rest of the thread, great work all the way through.
  5. I wasn't sure if I would like black over blue, but that looks really good. I still really like the sleeve stripes and the use of gold gives it just enough color beyond the black and blue.
  6. The danger of downplaying the gold too much is that you wind up with something that looks like the Jaguars' current set.
  7. @heavybass, you're welcome. Thank you for the H/T. I like this a lot, especially the sleeve stripes. They are very bee-like, if I can make up a word. My only concern is that I don't think there would be so much emphasis on the gold. The school's website says the "primary palette" is blue, black and white, with gold only being an accent color (along with just about any other color in the rainbow). http://www.ubalt.edu/about-ub/offices-and-services/marketing-and-creative-services/the-ub-brand/visual-identity/color-palette-and-graphic-patterns.cfm In addition, the mascot wears a sweater that is only blue and white.
  8. I happened to be on Citation Road earlier today . . . in the same business park as roads named after notable thoroughbreds Kelso and Nashua.
  9. That looks an awful lot like a Steelers throwback helmet . . . which is a good thing. I dare them to only have the logo on the right side of the helmet.

  11. Similar to the Navy jerseys, Lafayette wore "Beal Lehigh" jerseys in the late '60s. Otherwise, I definitely remember the Notre Dame green jerseys being used in the late 70s. In particular, I remember them playing USC in 1977(?), warming up in blue jerseys, then putting on green jerseys after going back into the locker room before the game.
  12. It's funny. I fell almost the complete opposite of this. I feel like the change was a huge downgrade. Seconded.
  13. How can they have a "usual" road playoff look when they've never made the playoffs in these uniforms?
  14. My biggest issue with this is the name and number font. I know the Ravens have been using it on their website and on social media for a few years. However, on the uniform, it looks like a custom font being used for custom font's sake* and reminds me a bit of the Titans number font. Also, is that a purple-flaked black helmet, like Jags' old teal-flaked helmet? I've always thought that is an intriguing idea for the Ravens and am curious to see how it would look in real life. At a minimum, it would be consistent with the actual bird, which is black with a purple sheen. * -- I think Buc use CFCS for this, but I wasn't sure if this an official CCSLC thing like BFBS.
  15. We'll have to agree to disagree. I actually really like it, drop shadows and all. I'm not sure I'd call it generic, though it has popped up in other settings (Mariners, Diamondbacks, East Carolina). In any case, the fact that it has become part of the brand identity should not be overlooked in considering whether to keep it. To offer a case in point, the Red Sox number font was previously used by multiple baseball teams (e.g., A's, Angels, even the Yankees). It was certainly more generic than the Ravens number font. However, now it would be considered nearly blasphemous to consider a Red Sox home uniform without that number font.
  16. You saved me a lot of typing by basically capturing all of my thoughts about the Ravens uniforms.
  17. You're making me nervous. I'm afraid to ask which one you have in mind and why.
  18. I'm not (quite) old enough remember those uniforms (though I do remember the blue helmets), but I've always loved that shade of silver. It almost looks a very pale metallic blue (excluding the helmet pic at the top). EDIT: Did the Oilers ever use the top stripe pattern on the silver helmets? That version looks like a generic grey/silver helmet with the decals from the white helmets put on it.
  19. Black Ice!!!!!! *FIRE EMOJI x8* . . . and it was originally designed/debuted as a prime time look.
  20. Does Evel Knievel also count as sports? Either way, add him to the list of cool stuff we lived through.
