. . . and the other issue being that the Washington Generals are perennial inept losers. Otherwise, I think it's a great name.

One advantage the SEC has is that many of its schools are in states with little to no competition in the Big Four sports. Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas and South Carolina are the only games in town. Beyond that Tennessee and Vanderbilt were the only games in town until the mid-90s.

I'm putting this firmly in the "I'll believe it when there is a formal announcement" category. That said, Pete Thamel now says it's a "formality", with an announcement expected within 24 hours . . . perhaps as soon as tonight. EDIT -- Looks like I'm a little late on the Pete Thamel news.

This is a brilliant description.

Underreported Uniform Details

If memory serves me, the jerseys didn't have the stitching initially because MLB didn't allow it. The theory was that the stitches simulated a baseball and would be confusing to hitters. -
Buick Unveils New Logo as Company Enters into Electric Scene
leopard88 replied to DCarp1231's topic in General Design
I'm 54. Despite the best of efforts of Tiger Woods, Buicks will always remind me of my grandfather's LeSabre and the car driven by the seemingly old father of one of my best friends back in the mid-70s (who, in hindsight, was probably 8-10 years younger then than I am now). . . . and my 85 year old mother drives a 2002 Century. -
The one thing they didn't change is the M in the logo . . . which is one thing that has always annoyed me. I know it's a little anal retentive on my part, but it has always bothered me that the outer downstrokes on the M are at a different angle than the upper sides of the outline (for lack of a better description). I've always thought they should be parallel to one another (but I'm also the person who is bothered by the fact that the bottom strokes of the F and L in the current NFL logo aren't aligned so as to meet at a point if they were extended).

Buick Unveils New Logo as Company Enters into Electric Scene

You took the words right out of my mouth. The only change that might have been worth the (minimal) effort would be to eliminate the chrome effect in locations other than grills on cars. I think Buick was worth keeping, but I also think they should have kept Pontiac. It had a much hipper image than Buick, even up until its demise. It tells you all you need to know about the Buick image that they had to build an entire ad campaign around the idea that people were surprised to find out that a relatively cool car was a Buick. It was the modern day equivalent of the "not your father's Oldsmobile" campaign. -
Space Force has an "historic" symbol? Also, I would have lost the bet on the wings. I forgot about the chapel, so I was thinking the wing to the viewer's right (which is the bird's left wing, for the record, contrary to the summary) were representative of the Rocky Mountains.

I think you would get a few of the hard core fans who make Championship Weekend part of their annual Memorial Day ritual, but I don't think that would be a large number. Having to get a plane for a 3-4 hour flight some time around/after 5:00 EDT on Memorial Day when you have to work the next day makes for a tough slog. Oh, yeah . . . Fear The Turtle!

And after Sunday, next weekend will be the Big Ten/Ivy League Challenge.

I did not see that coming, especially once Georgetown took a late lead. Delaware's behind-the-back-on-the-dead-run goal was a thing of beauty.

Irish Spring has a fresh and clean new logo

That's probably true. -
That would be a nice step up for The Mount.

I happened to see the logos side-by-side in the grocery store last weekend. My son and I both thought the new one looked pretty generic and was a definite downgrade. -
MLB Stadium Saga: Oakland/Tampa Bay/Southside
leopard88 replied to So_Fla's topic in Sports In General
To be fair, the game time yesterday was moved up 3.5 hours to avoid impending nasty weather (the first ever reverse rain delay?). That doesn't mean they would have drawn 30,000 at the regular time, but there were at least extenuating circumstances yesterday.- 3,837 replies

I like it. The clown face concept is clever and it is well executed.

The sons seem to be okay (though it's too early to tell), but the old man definitely sucks.

https://www.southbmore.com/2022/04/06/photo-tour-of-the-new-left-field-at-oriole-park-at-camden-yards/ The angle at the bullpen wall in left center doesn't look as severe as I expected.

Loyola of New Orleans -- what a joke of a logo...

Loyola of New Orleans -- what a joke of a logo...
leopard88 replied to B-Rich's topic in Sports Logo General Discussion
Yeah, that is pretty bad. They would be much better off just keep the wordmark and using a non-arched version of the L as the logo. It would need to be straight instead of italicized to avoid looking like this Lafayette College secondary/helmet logo. -
Best helmet in college football?
leopard88 replied to Skycast's topic in Sports Logo General Discussion
Since this is from The Spun, I'm surprised the headline isn't "College Football World Reacts To Naming Of Best Helmet". -
USFL. Trumps. I see what you did there.
