  1. I'm not rooting for them to fail, just for the NHL and the other appropriate authorities to acknowledge that they are failing.
  2. On paper I'd be inclined to agree with this, but it's worth noting that England are yet to concede in the tournament, and in the 17 games they've played over the last 9 months or so post-lockdown they've conceded a grand total of just 5 goals!
  3. Good for Carl Nassib, being a pro athlete in a major sport seems like it would be hard enough work and come with so much added bullshirt at the best of times that I truly can't imagine doing it whilst also feeling like you have to hide/aren't allowed to be your truest self, as members of the LGBT+ community have for decades. I also think it's hugely positive more generally that even in the six or so years since Michael Sam things have moved on enough that Nassib coming out was a) seemingly pretty widely accepted and b) in the nicest possible way, not that big of a news story, especially in comparison to how Sam seemed to be in the headlines for weeks.
  4. I'm not sure if this is why or not, but I know CONMEBOL had a round of World Cup Qualifiers (which are one big home and home round Robin which they're very behind on already) at the start of this week, so it's possible that they weren't able to work travel/potential quarantine arrangements with a neutral host in time for the Copa
  5. This is the lowest of possible bars to clear
  6. I may be wrong, but isn't the case with MLS that their preferred option is an SSS, but they'll allow otherwise as long as there's ownership crossover between the team and the stadium, because it's about not having their teams be tenants of somebody else. Hence how Arthur Blank's Atlanta FC are allowed to share Megatron's butthole with the Falcons, NYCFC sharing with the Yankees, and I assume the Sounders must therefore share owners with the Seahawks.
  7. England's 1986 FIFA World Cup squad had two players named Gary Stevens
  8. They'd better be shaped like the iconic jaws of Husky Stadium!
  9. Rightly or wrongly the continued regular success of Boston teams across all 4 sports so far this century means that Boston fans getting involved in the general hurly-burly of sports trash talk, especially when concerning teams who aren't necessarily their rivals, does have a tendency to come across as "punching down" and making fun of those less fortunate. It's somewhat of a cliche on both sides by this point tbh, but those are the breaks of being a sports fan. This board ≠ the internet as a whole. Just because people are saying it elsewhere doesn't mean similar things have to be aired on this forum, or anywhere else for that matter.
  10. Uh, that pick may not help things with your unsettled, wantaway, all time great QB
  11. Slater's dad (at least I assume that's who it was) is an absolutely enormous man
  12. 3 WRs in the top 10, all three reunited with their old College QBs EDIT LOL the Bears have traded up
  13. Once again, Tomlin's worst record with the Steelers is 8-8; you appear to have a seriously messed up understanding of the concept of a "bad season".
  14. Sorry but it's a hard disagree on this one. FIFA and UEFA may be being run awfully by people who are varying degrees of gross but they're built on ideas which are solid and proper. This is a terrible idea from the start which only exists because a bunch of really gross super rich dudes want to get somehow even more wealthy whilst screwing over everyone else.
  15. I don't disagree with any of this. I think the issue (and a large part of why this idea blows so hard) is that it's not setting out to include Europe's "best teams" as such, but rather the "biggest clubs" - two things which do not always entirely go hand in hand. Although even then I'm still struggling to find any way to look at it where Tottenham's presence isn't completely ludicrous.
  16. Juventus have consistently been one of the top 3 or 4 teams in one of the top 3 or 4 leagues in the world for decades by this point. I would also argue that consistently making the CL knockout stages in the way they do in and of itself puts you in elite club territory. There's plenty of argument to be had about which teams do or don't "deserve" a place in this stupid thing, but trying to put Juve in the latter camp strikes me as a bit mad.
  17. It's certainly my belief that this is the case (making absentee voting harder, therefore forcing people to polling stations and very likely lengthening lines, then criminalizing assisting those waiting in line whilst simultaneously making it harder to extend the opening hours seem to me to trying to do everything up to that). I hold my hands up for slightly sarcastically presenting this as fact, sorry.
  18. They definitely would if they thought could get away with it. And they mightn't be getting rid of other options, but they're making them exponentially harder to access, more generally irksome and less user friendly. Making the sheer act of voting harder and less accessible to people is preeeetty quickly starting to go against the basic tenets of democracy. Which is a long way of saying that this is clearly a case where baseball had to something to show that this is not ok, we can debate exactly what but pulling the ASG feels like the "easiest" move, especially with precedent of other leagues doing similar things. FWIW I quite like the idea of turning the ASG into one giant :censored:-you celebration of protest, but I think that, especially in the current climate, that definitely runs a risk of turning yourself into something of a target for, well, we all know who, which runs the risk of ending up counter-productive.
  19. TBF even if the Super Bowl hadn't moved back a week it would still have been clashing
  20. It is an April Fool apparently https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/30/volkswagens-name-change-of-us-voltswagen-operations-was-april-fools-marketing-prank-source-says.html
  21. Wait, what @Brian in Boston posted is real? I genuinely thought that was a joke when I first read the post
