Great idea for a series! It just reminds me how far behind I am in the MCU 😅

The D.C. look feels like a solid base for the series. I like the Yankees feel--clean and timeless.

I will say, I would love to see pant and cap options as the series progresses. I feel like you could have a lot of fun with a few different hat combos at least.

Thanks! I honestly am at the point with the MCU where I'll watch what I'm interested in, but can't possibly keep up with it all. Although, I have seen everything except Ms. Marvel up to this point, which I would like to watch if I can ever find the time.

D.C. is definitely one of the most conservative designs of the series. Hopefully future teams can be more "fun."

I thought about incorporating hats and pants, but it just didn't seem worth it for me. There's something about this jersey template from @AusGiant that I really like. I might try out some caps & see if I like them though.

But this would suit them, with tweaks of course, if they plan on rebranding

Thanks! As a side note, that "NY" logo is quite the bastardization of the Brewers' "MB."

Yankees, Mets, Tigers, Blue Jays, A's (probably on hold now), Guardians and Rays all have yet to unveil City Connect uniforms as well.

Yep, it’s just a matter of whether they’ll try to fit them all in for 2024 or push some of them back to 2025.

Hal Steinbrenner also said the Yankees have no plans for a City Connect, so we’ll see if that remains true. If there’s no Yankees & A’s jerseys, that leaves us down to 8 teams remaining, which feels very doable for 2024.

My takeaway from this news is that the Phillies will 1) be unveiling their City Connect uniforms in 2024, and 2) said uniforms will probably be red.

So far for 2024 City Connects we will almost definitely see:

I'm curious what other remaining teams we'll see, and if we'll get the rest of them, or push some back to 2025.

I didn't have this planned until maybe a couple months ago, but I'm excited to debut my series designing baseball teams inspired by the superheroes of Marvel comics.

Although most would agree that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a bit of a downturn post-Avengers: Endgame, I'm viewing this series as a celebration of the brand and the heights it has achieved this century.

The designs will mostly remain inspired by the MCU, as I admittedly do not have as much knowledge about the comics beyond the movies, but thankfully the MCU is fastly approaching a point where they're able to include all of the important characters in the Marvel canon.

Each team will have three main jerseys: home, away, and alternate, and a fourth special design inspired by a specific Marvel movie or TV show. Think of it as the "Cinematic Edition."

I'll be going in a random order, much like the MLB MULTIVERSE series. I have 31 teams total, 1 team for each day of December, sort of like an extended advent calendar. Without further ado, let's begin!

  5. I feel like the key to the 49ers is deciding whether to incorporate black as an accent color or not. Personally, I lean towards “no,” as I think their unique red & gold color scheme is more than enough to stand on its own. I even think they could afford to drop the black from the helmet logo.

However, I wouldn’t blame somebody one bit who wanted to keep the black dropshadows on the numbers and in the logo, as that’s far from a bad look in itself. I would just want the team stick with gold pants almost entirely, and to settle on one look as opposed to having two remarkably similar but yet distinct identities.

Florida will be going all-blue again tonight against FSU. There’s a part of me though who really would’ve loved to see the ultra rare blue jersey/orange pants combo.

Personally, it’s not a bad look in anyway and better than the all-blue. It’s really never made sense to me why Florida hasn’t worn this combo more after it was worn a lot under Spurrier. At the end of the day, aside from the all-black alternate, Florida doesn’t really have any bad combos.

The longstanding superstition among Gator fans regarding orange/blue/orange is "look like Illinois, play like Illinois." IIRC the only win in that combo is 2016 North Texas.

Granted, Florida plays like Illinois regardless of the combo now, but still.

Are you a Florida fan, because personally I’ve never heard of this being a lifelong fan? Tbh, that “superstition” sounds really dumb if true. I’d be very welcome to blue over orange every now and then. It’s still a really

nice, clean look that you could argue is better than the blue over white combo. Reminds me of the Browns going brown over orange.

Imo, while I prefer the blue, for a team with an orange helmet, we don’t use the orange pants enough like we should.

I am, and I've heard people say it for a while whenever that combo gets brought up. I don't know who coined it first, and the only results on Google are the CCSLC and Reddit, but I know I've heard it multiple times in real life so yeah.

I think it's our worst of the 3 home combos, but it still looks pretty good so I'm open to it as a once-per-season thing. Same thing with orange pants on the road. My personal "ideal" schedule would be

    - Biggest home game of the season plus Tennessee: O/B/B

    - Kentucky or some other blue dominant team: O/O/W

    - Homecoming: 1966 throwback W/B/W

    - One cupcake: O/B/O

    - All other games (should be 2 assuming a 7 game home slate): O/B/W

I’m a Gator fan and have said it in reference to the combo, I wouldn’t call it a superstition though. I just think the combo is terrible looking and happens to match Illinois who plays terrible on the field and tends to look terrible. I just really don’t think that combo is befitting of the Gators much in the same way I’ve thought our home white outs, Gator skin, and black helmet weren’t befitting of the brand.

Personally, as a lifelong FSU fan & alumni who is now at UF for graduate school (it's a long story), I've always really liked the orange/blue/orange combo for the Gators. It used to be my favorite combo, but much like the Browns' orange pants, a comparison that @kaleb_girod astutely noted, I now think it's best as an occasional special alternate look instead of the primary combo. I also really enjoyed whenever the Gators wore the orange pants with the white jersey going into Doak.

Interestingly, the Gators appeared to announce an update the orange pants to match the helmet stripe earlier this summer, but to my knowledge they never wore them this season, nor did they wear the orange jersey. That's a shame, as I agree with @PrimalCookie that the orange elements are useful against teams that primarily wear blue such as Kentucky, just as going all-blue is useful against Tennessee.

Interesting that it’s considered supposedly more “professional” to have your shins covered, but no one does here, not even the ref.

I’d personally prioritize the performance and the comfort of the athletes, & high socks don’t really seem to help with that much.

  8. I think the Texans are a prime candidate for the triple-mismatch (i.e. different color helmet, jersey, & pants). They could do the red helmet, navy jersey, & white pants at home, and do the white jersey with navy pants on the road. They could even continue the triple-mismatch with the alternate by switching to the navy helmet with the red jersey & white pants.

The old one is more in keeping with the 1998 A logo, in that Factory Pomo-adjacent style. I wouldn’t say it’s the best “D-snake,” but it’s the one that fits the set.

I honestly prefer the old "D-snake" logo entirely, the 2007-2017 one's head is too big and there are too many curved lines, which as @SFGiants58 said, doesn't mesh as well with the 'A' logo.

I think of the 4 the all red DSnake is the least necessary, and probably the worst one too. Can easily just wear the black/red D one or the red A hat with the red jersey.

I immediately saw this and thought that that red A hat would be the first to completely disappear (see the orange Astros hat).

The only reason I'd drop the all-black hat is that I really prefer the Diamondbacks to be a red-heavy team. I think having the all-red hat is a good addition, but I like the black-brimmed hat too.

I like it a lot! I’m SO happy the D Snake is back. I get some of the dislike for it, but it’s got historical precedent for the Diamondbacks. This may be my new favorite D Backs hat.

I’d never liked the D-snake logo, but this hat honestly looks really nice. I’d just drop the all black ‘A’ cap at this point to be honest.

  11. Wow! I’m not a fan of the headspoon (although I don't think it looks quite as thin as I had feared), but everything else is an upgrade. The biggest relief is that "D-Backs" is no longer a part of the set, hopefully for good.

Although I've personally started to sour on the turquoise, as oppposed to sand, I am glad they finally settled on one color scheme, even if it's maybe not the one I would've chosen. On the positive side, it makes the City Connect stand out as more unique, while still keeping sand in the set to a degree.

Making the home uniform off-white was a great move. I also appreciate the heavier emphasis on sedona red, as the previous set was too black-heavy (adding sedona red caps to the road jersey was a huge upgrade). I think the full "Diamondbacks" looks a little too condensed for my liking, but it's honestly not as bad as I would've expected.

I’m honestly halfway convinced the team saw my concept for them & ran with it, but I’m not complaining:

I really hope the A's keep their current unis but just change the road script to reflect their new city. I also wonder if any design work was done on an Oakland City Connect uniform, which at this point we'll likely never get to see.

I'd be disappointed if they don't switch to kelly green full-time. I also wouldn't mind seeing some  sort of striping on the uniforms.

Wow, they absolutely crushed this. Fun word play, character-based, and great looking uniforms.

This is immediately one of the best identities in MiLB, if not the best. I love everything that has to do with the Roman striping and the columns, especially the "R" logo. Tying it in with emperor penguins is simply perfect for a Minor League identity. The color scheme is also very Georgia and very Roman at the same time. 10/10.

  14. Potential hot take incoming:

I’m not sure if people would consider this “monochrome,” but if so, I think this is a much better way to go about it:

    zReB6De.jpg

Teal socks would throw off the balance completely, but this looks just fine as an occasional combo. If the jersey matches the pants, then the helmet should match the socks and (ideally) be a different color. Buffalo pulled this off on Monday with white/blue/blue/white, & I could see the Ravens, for example, doing something similar with black/purple/purple/black.

To tie this point in with the Texans news, I actually really like that look, but it would be even better with red socks to match the helmet.

  15. I’m surprised this hasn’t been mentioned yet, but Uni-Watch did a piece on the new Nike template, giving us our first look at an actual jersey.

    wlx6hXb.jpg

This looks to confirm that the collar insert is still there, which makes me glad I got my Twins authentic jerseys this year.

Overall, I think it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Some elements of the new replicas are an upgrade over the old ones, as I never liked the “stripes” effect that the material of the old Majestic replicas gave. I also like the stitched Nike swoosh and hope the new replicas will include elements such as patches & front numbers.

The sleeve stripe style on the old template was better though, in my opinion:

  16. The first time we saw a peak at Nike’s MLB template was with the Royals during Spring Training 2021:

    blBDOSk.jpg

You can see the placket is closer to the neck, and there are inserts at the collar & at the end of the sleeves.

Later that year, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders appeared to use the same template:

    D2LNALC.jpg

    Both jerseys had perforated numbers:

    SIurRkQ.jpg

    HMfU2KJ.jpg

Then, the template was used for this past summer’s All-Star Game:

    ZhBMIqd.jpg

It’s unclear whether next year’s template will keep the collar and sleeve inserts, as the Rangers’ jersey doesn’t seem to, although that is a replica.

Well, because COLOR VS COLOR is never ever necessary.

A lot of things about uniforms aren’t really necessary, all you need is contrasting colors and numbers on the jersey. Anything beyond that is just flair, but that’s what interests us here.

(I say that as someone who would probably prefer the Falcons wear white against the Oilers throwbacks).

I’d just have a hard time saying we shouldn’t do this simply because it isn’t necessary:

    Tc1rySg.jpg

Of course, not every color v. color matchup is this glorious (far from it), but the overall point still stands.
